Well its summer, no doubt about it. The week up north is looking quite warm to hot - temperatures from low 30 to high 30's for the week and even breaking the 40 degree mark by Monday, with a 41 forecast in Kyabram and 43 in Mildura, while Melbourne its high 30's. The rest of the week for Melbourne is mid to high 20's, Warrnambool and Lakes Entrance quite mild in the low 20's for the majority of the week. Albury/Wodonga, like Mildura warm to hot for the week. No real signs of a cooler break for the week up north although some hints of a possible break towards the 7 day mark - very small though. Stay Cool those in the north! It's the great divide again between the south, mild, to hot in the north.

Yes Liberator, had not been many warm nights this summer as warm to hot during day and then temperature drops between 15c to 12c over night.

Loc: Melbourne (Belgrave); Corryong...
Hey g'day gang! Reporting from the Gungahlin area in Canberra, having arrived from Melbourne (en route to Sydney) around 4 hours ago. Good to be back in NSW/ACT! smile

My fiancee and I managed to catch a lift (by sheer coincidence lol) with a friend who happens to be heading on a long-distance road trip from Melbourne to Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Tamworth (via Albury/Wodonga, Canberra, Sydney and Newcastle) at the exact same time! Lol timed perfectly! grin

My report for the past 24 hours...

Our friend arrived to pick us up from Belgrave in the Dandenong Ranges around 7am. After having brekky and tidying up and locking up the house, we left home shortly after 7:30am.

An hour later we reached Lilydale, then exited metropolitan Melbourne and drove north along the Melba Highway through the Yarra Valley and over the Great Dividing Range, reaching Yea around 9:30am.

Just after 10am, we continued on from Yea. Because of limited traffic going towards Lake Eildon, we drove through Bonnie Doon towards Mansfield, then north up the Midland Highway to Benalla, rather than going towards Seymour.

Unfortunately, there were plenty of roadworks on the Goulburn Valley and Midland Highways, but by midday we finally reached the M31 Hume Freeway (Melbourne-Sydney). smile

We stopped for lunch in Glenrowan near Wangaratta around 20 minutes later and stayed for nearly an hour. Just before 2:30pm, we finally crossed the Murray River from Victoria into New South Wales at Albury/Wodonga! smile

Around 10 minutes later, my fiancee and I were dropped off at the train station (our friend is still spending the night at the Border btw). The V/line bus to Canberra showed up around 4pm, and after waiting for passengers aboard the train from Melbourne to arrive, the bus left the Border for the Capital around 4:20pm. smile

The bus stopped at Holbrook around 5pm, Tarcutta at roughly 5:45pm, and finally Gundagai for a 5-minute toilet break around 6:15pm. About 2 hours we finally reached Canberra; we crossed the NSW/ACT Border just after 8pm btw! smile

Weatherwise, it was a bit of sharp contrasts. It was around 11C at home when I left, so it felt cold! There was patchy morning fog in the Yarra Valley (mainly towards Healesville and the Black Spur), but otherwise skies were mostly clear and sunshine was abundant. smile

Continuing north over the Divide, it was warming up very quickly. By the time we reached Yea it was around 17-19C. At Swanpool, south of Benalla (around 11:45am), it was 24C. By the time we were in the Glenrowan/Wangaratta area at lunchtime it was around 28C, really hotting up out across the Northern Plains! But all the while I noted increasing cloud due to the trough over inland NSW.

Temperatures soared to around 32C at the Border, but cloudcover (plus higher elevation from Gundagai to the Capital) caused temperatures later in the day to fall down into the 20s for the remainder of the journey. A stunning sunset followed to greet us as we arrived in Canberra! smile

Maximums and minimums at weather stations along or near the route we took from Melbourne to Canberra, as well as for Corryong where my parents are still based:

Melbourne - 13.6C / 20.6C
Scoresby - 8.3C / 23.7C
Ferny Creek - 9.1C / 19.7C
Coldstream Comparison - 6.8C / 24.6C
Mangalore - 12.6C / 28.5C
Eildon - 9.5C / 26.8C
Wangaratta Airport - 13.0C / 31.4C
Albury Airport - 16.4C / 31.8C
Corryong Airport - NA / NA
Khancoban Airport - 12.2C / 31.1C
Wagga Wagga Airport - 13.7C / 31.9C
Canberra Airport - 15.5C / 27.5C

Currently around 18C and mostly cloudy here in Canberra. smile

Sitting on the battleground between liberators North and South here.

26th - 10.6c to 21.4c breezy SSE winds and lots of sun
27th - 11.2c to 29.9c clear skies, wind briefly N in middle of day and light before Melbourne's seabreeze made it here mid arvo
28th - 8.8c to 30.1c Sunny few h clouds W winds before afternoon seabreeze raised dew points and dropped temp. Was calm for several hours before sunrise allowing the drop off in temps last night.

Dropping into the 8's last night is excitement atm, country full of huge Dp's we just need something to grab them and lift em for us..

... yep Dooga - and looks to be an earlier change than progged a few days ago - an early arvo dry change for Melbourne?

This is what AccR progg's:

GFS has things getting a little warmer out in the SW at the 2pm change, but nothing different enough to post.

Looks like its us out in Gippy to get warmest in Vic's South - but cooling at tea time?

After 33C yesterday, persistent SE'ly sea breeze saw us reach a sunny 28.6C here today- very nice holiday weather (but after a "one out of the box" late morning, would have been quite windy down on Gippsland Lake this arvo for those not travelling home).

Yep looks pretty hot out east tomorrow, combo of later change but also NW even W winds. Central parts will be heading up like a rocket before change sorts that out, I guess slower for central parts north of the divide to cool off.

Today we had thick fog and mist early with a low of 11.1c and SSE winds. These died and went to the NW for middle of the day till about 545 causing the temp to climb to 32.7c and DP dropping to around 4c. Melbourne's/the bay seabreeze made it up the Calder at 545 or so, currently 26.8c/13.9c with SSE wind.

After mist and fog left not a cloud all day (Tulla sounding showed amazing dry layer around 870hpa or so) but was a day that had a bit of back and forth without any super obvious meteorological excitement.

What I usually call a "dirty day" here. Hot (36C), gusty wind (though not as bad as might be), 7/8 cloud.

Dodged a bullet up here today with only a max
Of 28c 😀 Plenty of really strong wind blowing
Now and the sun has made a late appearance
Do we might still beat that max temp yet??

Still wouldn't want any fires starting with this
Wind!!

27.5c for a high, some spots of rain and light winds all day.

Off and on light rain most of the middle of the day in the city as well.

40 at Orbost and low 40's in the NE pretty impressive temps.

Only pushed, with a lot of effort, to almost 1mm over an hour from the trough as it slowly moved across. Radar seemed to show the front having now passed through Bairnsdale but has not hit here - 15km or so NE. Only a few brief periods today when the FDI felt to be at the forecast Severe level - thankfully.
