The 8 day outlook looks a bit gloomy in terms of summer monsoonal activity all across Australia's North?? - the only thing notable in the outlook for us Vic's seems to be a "rain dropping" cold change possibility later next weekend??.

...if it comes off, better than the dry changes we are suffering at present and creates the chance of a weak storm or two??

This GFS's "last cast of the runes"......

Good pickup P, looking favourable for southern Vic this stage, my better half says "don't torment yourself" - must have heard it from me many times before........lol

This has a good monsoonal feed from the N/W and the site models all reckon somethings up!

Be happy here to get some moisture to take the fire danger off for a while, if fortunate enough to get say 50mm it could be a season changer.

Looks like good soaking rain from Sunday into Monday.

South of Victoria will be cooler of early autumn feeling while the Northern Country to NSW border very warm.

Yep GFS has back off rain a little (or pushed it up Nth of the Divide) - and is that a potential 3rd WA cyclone forming???? - maybe this time we might pick up a little from the leftovers!

All models spouting good rain falls next Sun/Mon/Tues, but favouring Monday as the biggest.

Even BOM has us down for 3-15mm per day for Sun/Mon/Tue next.

Be interesting where this one ends up.

Very interesting weather pattern in middle of Summer.
VICTORIA is cool down thanks to Slim ,merging High pressure keeping to SW to SE flow across VIC.

Heat sits far inand NSW and QLD for last 4 weeks, sorry for people live in Broken Hill over 40c for days.

Cyclone in WA turn away into Indian Ocean is upsetting us that not bring enough rain to SE Australia.
JUST want a Cyclone to move SE direction would bring heavy rain.

I felt so boring no Thunderstorms to chase.

Nice mackeral sunset photos Ruckle!

GFS is "on again" re useful rain prospects for Vic later next weekend:

...and re chances of a WA cyclone, maybe the latest trend towards a huge low pressure system to develop might enhance our chances of a dribble or two from it?????

Yeah Petros it looks especially good
For the north and east of vic, would
Really like it to push a little further south😉
Another important event this one, as potentially
Some pretty warm days after this event
And no real rain on the horizon again!!

Would absolutely love the fairytale senario
Of 20-30mm but I'm thinking we may struggle
For 10-15mm??

Nice sunset pics, thanks, a little of that cloud over this way early the next morning to our W.

Where did this weather event end up, probably in the bin of what could have been.........

Looking at Access, GFS and EC this morning our corner of Vic could be lucky to come out of this with 25mm, good chance of less.

BOM still forecasting good rains here but I'm tipping it'll fall in a heap today/tomorrow.

At least the weather is cooler for the last few days grin

On the positive side large areas of Vic will get good rains, the High Country should get a good dousing and settle fire danger ratings for a while, Omeo close to some of the highest forecast rainfall on this morn.'s WATL.

BoM forecaster on ABC Country Hour (today 12.30) suggesting more a northern Vic event - that the trough is likely to lie further north - though, as you say, Samboz, WATL still gives SE Vic very good falls. So, I think SW will miss out on anything significant; central north and NE in for a good soak ... south central a bit iffy and SE ...I think it's lineball btw 25-50mm and not much at all. As they say, "We shall see".

By 8th next Wednesday the heat will quick move in Northern Country before new High Pressure slim in and push Heat back North again.

Tropical low pressure will be spinning off Far North QLD Coast and move down Brisbane and wait next chart update if Low pressure will move inland too early.

Doogasnow, I've just looked at the model-generated forecast for Sarsfield for Monday (The loud bang I heard this arvo must have been the bottom falling out of the local forecast)...it's dropped from max 40mm to max 20mm. It may keep on goin' down me fears.

And the official BoM forecast for Bairnsdale is now Sun: 2 - 6mm; Mon: 6 - 20mm.

The best cumulative totals I can see progged for nth of ranges is about 35mm. Interested to have a look at WATL when it updates. And cumulative totals in the SW are about stuff all!

Interesting variations in the models. All of them have a solid area of rain but all in different places. GFS has its stripe of heavy stuff along the border with reasonable rain around the ranges, short range ACC has switched north but continues to have a pre show shower or storm preview early hours Sunday in west and central parts and EC unusually is very generous with solid amounts on Monday on my 3 sample towns, Echuca, Woodend and Melbourne with some warm area shower storms around on Sunday. It also has bumper falls in parts of Gippsland.
WRF model actually had the heavy band further south nearer the coast before it disappeared off WZ.

So 48 to 72hrs out we know it will rain but who does best is a little hazy. If I was to have a bet I still feel like last night that the high is going to try and push the heavier stuff north but depending on trough position SE facing areas would potentially do ok even if the high nudges in fast. In short like the models I have no idea but if EC could be right that would be great.

Yep 12z run shows upgrade (2nd in a row) on EC for my place and also places out east on Monday. GFS is more widespread with heavier distribution than on previous run but with a northern bias to the heaviest strip. ACCR does shunt things north on Monday pretty quick (though a fair hosing along the border progged) but Sunday still has heavy stuff for north central and NW prior to that. It continues to indicate activity tonight over western and central parts and most other models aren't enthusiastic about that except GFS with a little in far NW.ACC g well don't really pay much attention tbh but it has heavier stuff south.

Whats encouraging is both major models continue to upgrade amounts and the area that will receive good falls. ACC R still has good amounts as well but not too much for the S. It looks like the SW of the state is the most likely place to miss out under most scenarios.

The other encouraging thing is the sky atm and also the satellite. Looks good. Starting to get hopeful of 10-20mm here at home at a minimum.

As an aside my minimum's the first 4 days of Feb 8.3, 8.8, 7.8 and 6.7 today. Already 22.3 now though so will be a hot arvo.

As for following this event, looks hot and also a little damp so a big tease likely and discomfort for summer haters.

ACCr short range ACC has updated and pulled the precip south. Central part of the state getting rain tonight into tomorrow then later again tomorrow into Monday. Fantastic totals on the bullseye section. Its been on about early start since it came in range and looking at radar it looks like being right.

Latest GFS and AccR downgrade N Gippy to < 15mm total for this event, but as stated, others will do well so thats good. Especially wetting the high country bush areas for us out this way.

Currently showing up as a very slow moving rain blob over SA thats heading due E N-side of the divide:

Good luck all!

Satellite looks great. Storms back into WA, cold air still heading NE towards it all.

32.3c here after the cold start. Nearly 33 at a nearby Kyneton station and 31 in Trentham, pretty funny after some of the minimums this morning. (Trentham was 4.8c).

High clouds moving fast, if storms did form tomorrow (or tonight for that matter)they would have some nice speed on them.

Interesting for me that the above AustIR shows the most precipitation in Aus (S Central SA) is actually under the nations highest MSL air pressure!:

... I'm far too dumb to offer any constructive comment on this, but would love Ken Kato et al to advise if this is normal or not.

Access g now updated and now seems to
Be down graded for tommoz and pushing
Most of the possible good falls back
Until Monday.
But then Monday looks upgraded lol

So I'd say for west south gippy area
Access r is an upgrade/ gfs little down
Grade and access g probably even??

It's all still very much moving around each
Update, still could turn out to be anything

At this stage pumping water from one tank -> to another larger, making room for the down pour to be captured, & on the other hand still watering grass and veg. garden.

EC is still talking it up, Sat 2mm,Sun 19mm, Mon 86mm -

I'll be happy with a third of that and lucky to get it based on the vagaries of the other models.

When u look at the current national satalite/
Radar loop for Australia, the rain and cloud
Band coming into vic looks like its disappear
In front of our eyes ?? Is this cloud band the
Main event or surely I'm missing something ?? Lol

The air was very dry over vic today, will
This have a sapping effect on this system?

EC has gone pretty massive for eastern parts of the state as Samboz alluded to , increased for Melbourne, increased north of here (Echuca) and maintained our forecast from last runs of round 35-40mm. Tomorrow night is main show for central parts and Monday for eastern parts.

Will be officially disappointed if we don't manage 20mm here between now and Monday lunchtime.

Just had a look at 00z Canadian has 50+mm here overnight Sunday. Hmmmm don't think so. Some huge TT values on most models, I guess if cells and or areas of rain set up like training motion in one location that's why the high progs. Most models do have stripes of heavy precip indicating some sort of training of cells.

Guess we go to bed and wait and see how tomorrow plays out.

Wind has gone to the S here and DP jumped up to 14.

12z run EC has increased slightly (to 39mm)for here and ACC R has 30-40mm here. Really unstable looking sky in places. Time will tell as GFS has me back around 20mm for the event.

Good news is we are talking about our rain hopes and totals.

May not be successful, my 60+ yrs of letters to Santa haven't been answered yet, haven't given up but the last 50yrs has got me thinking grin

0.5mm in the wee hours, already >5% of last months rain, it's happening, little slow so far, but happening.

Gusty N/W here, 26C, cloudy.

BOM National radar has a nice damp N/W air flow lining us up for later on, WATL also with us deeper in the 25-50mm area. EC 60mm'ish for the event, just need rain now !

After a few more spits and lots of low cloud we have had quite a period of in and out full sun. Temp 24.5 DP 19, nice breeze, sky rocketing along.

Sounding shows loads of moisture along way up in the atmosphere. Also a lot of wind up above. Quite a few clearish slots in central and western parts atm and pressure starting dive over the same parts. Going to be a very interesting mid to late arvo and onwards.

Someone is going to get very wet.

We have very strong wind and a blanket

That heat to really bubble up the

Wonder if that is the reason why things are

Tipped out 2.75mm just before from early am and early arvo showers here.

Funny arvo here, working outside, we had mostly N/W'ly breeze, but hot and cool pockets embedded.

A muggy, overcast and sultry day. Baro at 1004 hPa, no sharp fall, was 1007 hPa this time yest.

It "feels like" its going to rain here.

.....just as long as the mountains get something, then I'll be happy.

Intermittent, still light, rain over past couple of hours.

I go out for a while an' come back to see figures like:Cape Nelson = 30mm, Ballarat = 30mm, Geelong = 36mm, Rhyll = 40mm And some of them in very short time spans. Quite amazing.

The frog's gone quiet while I've been out - BoM not spying on me any more Samboz?

Raining fairly steady here now, just made
A dash down to the Guage(yes even in the rain
Was that excited to see something wet in there)
To reveal 2mm so far with a fair bit more on
Radar! Surely we can scrape out 1/2" plus

First rain since 4am that wasn't drizzle or mist. Was heavy for 30 seconds. Some amazing totals around already.

Nothing much happening here either TB, just had a strong W roar thru' with a small amount of rain, dropped to almost nothing now.

Doubt if we have had 0.5mm since 0900.

Great to see other parts getting a dousing grin

Nice to hear balmz !

Had round 3.5mm by midnight, can see round 10mm now with good steady rain for the last hour plus.

No wind.

ACCESS has most of our rain during today, hoping it's right.

I recorded 29.2mm here in Tarneit, the garden is happy about that.

On another note what the heck is going on with Perth's Summer? Check the latest forecast http://www.bom.gov.au/wa/forecasts/perth.shtml

Sydney/NSW sizzling like never before and Perth quite the opposite, weird weather!

And, Weather_Viewer,most of the modelling is showing it getting considerably weirder at the weekend with tropical/ex-tropical cyclone impacting or veering close with up to 100mm rain.

Been cloudy, almost windless, light rain all day.

Presuming the rain has finished here ... we got 11.5mm for the event.

18.7mm for the event, complaint to be filed. We missed all the late pm stuff on Sunday and that set us back total wise. Apparently been around 11 degrees with mist and wind most of today up at home but been down here in the city at work with the dull sky missing the wintry excitement.

I just tipped out another 20.5mm to add to the 2.75mm I emptied last evening - 23mm - delighted! smile

AND - its just started to rain again. Presently a densely falling "Easterly-type" fine rain, under calm conditions. Maybe we could score a few more mm's tonight???

Great to see lots of other areas in Vic, which would be normally dry in Feb, have done well too!! smile smile
