There is a period of about 4 weeks from summer solstice, December 22nd, where sunset gets later. Day length still decreases as Sunrise gets latter by a little more than sunset. We only notice it because we have a set clock which does not change apart from daylight savings in some areas. The earths rotation around the sun has decided not to abide by our laws on time.
Look at what time solar noon is and notice this changes every day. It is not at 12pm on the dot every day.
Hope this helps grin

BOM have upped our rainfall over the next 8 days. Totals of 100-300mm for the region. That would be nice. Will have to look at the models to see what has changed. grin

It looks like it will be dry for the next few days. BOM has us getting some decent rainfall from the 15th onwards.

With MT moving south, hopefully, we can get some decent shower and storm activity.

That bit in the middle of the base of the cape looks especially useful HF. Although Sat pic looks like current gulf low has moved SW.

That's really amazing, Scott, I flashed on Apocalypse Now, dunno why, maybe watching too many old movies lately. Can you give credit to the photographer at all?

Peaceful weather lately, getting lots of catch-up chores done, specially mowing and spraying, tracing leaks...

Yep full day of mowing and spraying yesterday, today it is trimming trees. Forecast temp only 32c for Cairns and 33c for gvale. That should be smashed here at least considering its already 31c. See how long the seabreeze stays out.

Need to credit that photography Pogo, driving home there one night last year and there was an awesome cane fire around there also would of made for an awesome photo.

Has reached 33.2c here, some cloud forming, very light breeze so may not get much higher.

A mild 31c here today...

Looking at some figures down where I was born near Moree and my family still have a mixed farm ....its still 44.6 c at 5.20pm (6.20 pm EST)...topped out at 47.3c and they have had 46 days straight of above 35c...and about 1 inch of rain this year....geez I feel for the poor bugga's and my uncle trying to keep his stock alive... ...I cant see an official station in Warialda so I don't know how far off the mark this reading is....

Seems dry for February - rain outlook isn't much good

SOI is lame too

Cyclonic influences seem to have gone the way of candle stickmakers - at least for the foreseeable future

Highest temp I recorded was around 12 pm, 35.3c. Currently sitting at 34.1c. Not much happening on the radar except for that cell near the Daintree. Bring on some more rain!!
