Thread reopened. Also please make sure disagreements about the weather (e.g. if a particular kind of weather happened or not somewhere) doesn't start turning into ridicule. It's not enjoyable being on the receiving end of it and can become provoking over time. It may also make some people hesitant to report things in future.
Thankyou.

How do I know, my SES team had to remove the pergola and repair the roof...

A willy-willy or tornado doing that damage?

IMO, it sounds like that the pergola was badly constructed, which became a wind sail. Whoever built it is in the wrong business, should be a sailmaker, not a chippy!

Leaning towards a willy willy now that others have chipped in with their views on the difference between a willy willy and a tornado. The day was warm/hot, and cloudless with little wind.

The resident definately said it was a swirling wind and was very scary!

Not the first time we have had them around here, some years ago there was a willy willy not far away from Monday's damage, there the resident heard some loud wind noises, and looked out onto their front lawn to see their garden furniture swirling around in circles. They tried to open their front door, but the air pressure wouldn't let them open the door, and when they finally did open the door and went outside roof tiles came raining down on their heads!

Unsure of how much rain fell as I have no gauge at the moment, but at a guess I reckon about 30-40mm fell over the three days.

Or just order a tornado just to move the entire house down the street.

The furthest my missus ever moved was one kilometre! That's from her birthplace to where we live now!

A willy willy is a dust devil there is no clouds in the sky, they can rip roofs of buildings, one did at Paxton a few years back on a hot sunny day.
