Yes I reckoned you will have plenty of cool air this weekend. Certainly though snow a possibility on peaks.

Morning all

Not sure about the minimum temps I have been getting here. Have a new Max/Min Thermometer in the mail! Going to screw this one to the wall! Last one got blown off the hook it was hanging on and smashed, during one of the windier days here last year. grin
Looking forward to being able to make these observations once again. smile

I see much of Tassie in mid to high 20's today, quite pleasant. smile

Strahan going for 24, assume Payshensetown might be 25 or 26?

All for meeting halfway on the temps Dave. Be more than happy to see some of our rain spread about a bit too.

Sitting on 18 at the moment. Don't know if we will get to the mid twenties. I'd love to see it though. Lawn really needs a good dry out so I can mow. Have had 74mm since the high of 27 last Wednesday so the old yard is pretty soggy.

Morning everyone,

Some good overnight minimums there Snowies, you shouldn't be to far off from getting temps right down to zero! Fresh down this way last night with a minimum of 4.1 degrees, the signs of winter on the way.. frown

Hey P, good to hear about the new thermometer on the way! 74mm in the past week is insane considering we've had 4.2mm, how does the grass go up your way with that amount of rain, imagine it's got really good drainage? smile

Going to be a warm and very dry day down here in the Southeast, tops of 27-29, low humidity and the Northwesterly to get upto 50 km/h (gusts 80-90km/h) later this arvo with the approaching front, not ideal weather for fighting fires though! frown

TFS already have a total fire ban on for the southern part of the state, vegetation fire already this morning on Tea Tree rd near the Brighton bypass.

Still overcast down here with mid and high level cloud, however thats clearing to the North.

Current Obs: 19.9 degrees, Baro- 1004.9hPa, Westerly 11 km/h gusts 20 km/h.

Yes P, the West Coast is certainly a unique beast. I reckon quite a few people would struggle with the regular damp and cloud.

Screw that new beastie on tight!!!! smile

74mm, gawd - we are nowhere near that ytd. We've had maybe 30mm since New Years Day. Most of that in one day in mid Jan.

I was gonna say to use some cyclone tie brackets on the thermometer! grin

Warm and windy with patchy high cloud, mean wind speeds increasing rapidly now. smirk

Fire just North of Ouse has just been contained, had 7 trucks and 4 aircraft on it a few minutes ago! TFS not taking any chances!

Brighton Obs: 26.3degrees, 22% Humidity, Baro- 998.2hPa, NNW 39 km/h Gusts 64 km/h.

That pressure reading is low!! smile No wonder it's windy.

I will come down with a few coach screws (about 75mm x 15mm) and help P put the thermometer on the wall, they should help.

That should just about do it i reckon Dave! grin

There's currently a Bushfire on Natone hill, just Norwest of Lindisfarne at Advice level, 11 trucks and 3 helicopters in attendance! Certainly wouldn't be ideal in these conditions.. eek

Brighton Obs: 25.8 degrees, 24% Humidity, Baro- 997.5hPa, NNW 42 km/h Gusts 63 km/h.

Evening all , have been enjoying Sunday and Mondays dream run smile
Well what a crazy day here in Hobart , I was in the Hobart CBD at around 10:00 am and it was 18 c and rather cool indeed , I even needed jeans an a light jacket. I swear within what seemed like an hour the sun came out and the temps skyrocketed to around 25 c and I was getting home asap to get into cooler clothes. I was about to leave for golf at 5:00 pm looked across at Lindisfarne and the hill was ablaze with flames shooting up .
Next thing helicopters and fire planes started to water bomb.
I played golf at Risdon Bay ( near Lutana ) and the planes were circling over head with sirens going , never seen or heard this before . Also to top it off a massive traffic jam at Risdon Rd Intersection right in peak hour when due to the action over head and beyond several cars run up the bum of one another !
Still blowing out there now, looks like perfect running weather on Sunday 18 c for the Run The Bridge fun run smile
Next Wed and Thurs very warm again with 28 ' s ? So today was a wake up call to us all , how quickly things can go pear shaped despite the cool and wet weather we have enjoyed.
Hope Winter Lover on the Eastern Shore is safe .

Another cold night at 2.9 - despite being above 14 until midnight. The contrast between this Feb and last Feb are quite stark. The first 13 days last Feb all exceeded 25 and the month averaged 25.7, won't be going within 4 degrees of that this year...

That's a very cool Feb Snowies.

The eastern shore hills probably dry as they often are. They do burn more often than the other side (it seems to me). Probably depends where itchy fingers are living. frown

The ole saying MH - if you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes. grin

Max of 25 yesterday mid afternoon.

8.5mm out of the change which quickly dropped the temp down to 16 within an hour of its arrival.

Snowies, some interesting stats there. Certainly a much different start to the year.

I've given up trying to mow BB. I get halfway around the yard and its time to start again! Green as!

Hey where did summer go? I'm not ready for winter just yet. Check out the 4 day forecast for here. Western District Forecast. http://www.bom.gov.au/tas/forecasts/west.shtml
Snow on highlands for three days. crazy

Yes, we get this type of weather anytime of year. However the frequency and intensity of these changes seems to be increasing.

Some good storm cells about this afternoon, one around Campania at the moment heading in a Southwesterly direction! grin

A few others about the place like Sorell and the upper Derwent valley, hopefully we get a decent storm with some good rainfall!

Current Brighton Obs: 17.7 degrees, Baro- 1001.3hPa, SE 24 km/h gusts- 41 km/h. smile

Looking at the radar in the Southeast of the state atm, seems like some heavy falls currently in the suburbs between Glenorchy and the Hobart CBD! Had a couple small storms move through/past home this afternoon and evening, just under 8mm in the gauge, with constant thunder and flashes of lightning. smile

Hopefully you got some rain down your way WL to green up your grass! smile

Current Brighton Obs, 10.6 degrees Baro- 1005.4hPa, WNW 13 km/h gusts- 23 km/h.

Hi all

Well after the storms in Sydney over the Weekend, the pea size hail I had here yesterday is hardly worth a mention.

Hi all , what lovely run of weather and some excitement with a storm and small hail Sunday night.
It looks like the warmest weather of all Summer will hit us from now to early March. Some real stinkers ahead and looking like having a 3 day run starting next Monday. Here's hoping that March is not the beast it's been in the past years , as March has sometimes been hotter than the official Summer season. Anyone else seeing the same heat ahead , comments and discussion welcome smile
In other news a coffee stand in a refurbished shipping container has been set up at the Springs .
