I really should have said 'stop being naughty Greg'. But I felt I had to say something more intellectual as I sat there having a couple of meat pies and some frozen vegatables for tea he he he.

Oh yes the weather. An almost hot highish twenties in the Edgeworth area of Newcastle today. Working up to be back in the low 30's maybe tomorrow, definetly on Thursday and prob Friday too.

Thank you Greg. Sydney Olympic Park had a number of 40+ days, unlike OH and most coastal stations, but is affected by seabreezes and coastal Southerlies. I expect that places beyond reach of these coastal influences, like the Central Tablelands, would have shown much more sustained high temps.

I will respond to your other points on the Australian Politics thread when I get a moment to gather my thoughts. I might post some more stats.

--------

Another beautiful day in Sydney today, 14 - 27 at Olympic Park, sunny after some early cloud, still low humidity (for Sydney) even after the wind turned SE. The rest of the working week looks good, the weekend less so (for Ice Cream Vendors). There doesn't seem to be more major heat on the cards for the time being, and by then we're into March.

The Sydney forecast features the 'T' word for Friday and Saturday, although just for the West.

EDIT: still 24 degrees around Sydney under a NE'er. Then had a look at the MHL site. Sea temp off Sydney has shot up to 24.8.

I like 'Did you know' questions that assist in getting thru periods of settled weather so to speak. Did you know that it is estimated that only in the last 250 years or so has the combined weight of all humans on the planet become greater than the combined weight of all ants on the planet. Yeh yeh I know. I need to get a life he he

balmy outside. Frigging mozzies

Well when you talk about climate on a weather forum and people call it "politics" you know there is something wrong. Just like the tobacco lobby tried to raise doubts and make a public health issue political. If moderators want to moderate me that's fine, but this forum is about the weather.

Back to a normal morning minimum, 19C, and low 30s today.
Classic late summer and Feb day, not too bad really.

@Greg. Calling people who might not share your zealous beliefs 'deniers' is not engaging in a conversation about the weather. A lot of us participating on the forum (myself included) make comments that imply a viewpoint concerning the unmentionable topic. But your posts on the matter are full on in your face and bound to lead to rancour in my opinion.

The forecast is for more instability on friday and saturday, I hate that sort of forecast at this time of year. I know someone somewhere will get a good storm but it won't be me. We need a NW cloudband or a decent bit of tropical moisture for some widespread rain. It has been very pleasant weather lately but we are overdue for rain.

Definitely overdue for decent rain Greg.

It will rain properly again some day but sometimes you wonder if it remembers how!!.

Bx Ag Station had 4.8mm of rain last week - must have been a quite isolated little heavy patch because I'm sure we had less than 1mm over our side of the river - Airport had 1mm and I reckon I was very similar to that.

Very dry.

Quite warm again the next few days - scary that I'm getting used to low 30's as not too bad smile

Luckily the nights are staying mostly in the 12 to 15 degree range - that helps a LOT. smile

Long term GFS pushes the heat back into Qld/SA/NT mostly from after this weekend for at least a week. Hopefully that signals the strengthening of the temp turn down around here. Nights becoming much more influential now smile

Very warm days forecast for here at this time of the year: 31C expected on Friday. Storms have been very isolated this summer with a lot of dry lightning strikes, hence the fires that were set off last week. I am afraid we might see more this weekend. There were two only about 5km from us. Luckily they were quickly contained by the RFS.

I notice Oberon has had 10 days over 30C this month quite extraordinary. Last year the figure was 5 and the year before 1. 1 was the norm for the 20th century. I guess this weather pattern is related to the negative AAO, which has been giving SW WA a cool and wet February and us heat and dry. If the AAO stays negative, we could be in for a cold and wet winter over these parts of the CTs.

Here's hoping Rob G!

I've had more than enough 35c + days for summer 2016/17. There will be a few more hot days not doubt but it appears the extraordinary run of heat has finally come to an end, at least for my part of the world.

A completely clear, sunny day in Sydney with sea gales and temperatures above average (27-33 max across Sydney).

The BOM have greatly upped rainfall totals for the coast in the latest forecast, 25 to 60 mm for Sydney Saturday to Monday, with lighter showers continuing into next week.

The rain seems to be pretty much confined to the coast, however, with Bathurst only expecting 3-12 mm over that period. Easterly influences do seem to have a lot of trouble crossing the Divide. The Divide is a major marker between the rain haves (too much of) and the rain have nots.

18-33C here today, and humid.
Doesn't feel that hot though, and maximum temps now are at around 2pm, considerably earlier than were during that heatwave.
Normal late summer patterns in place now, and some rainfall predicted from Friday, after a mid 30s day tomorrow.

It's a nice cool night here with a light westerly breeze. Finally back home after a rowdy night at town. Trains were packed at 2:30 with loads of people heading home, amazing that it could be so busy. Maccas at 2am was among the busiest I've ever seen it.

Heavy rain looking quite coastal at this stage, should be some localised heavy falls, but the shower activity should extend a fair way inland. I think the BM's will still pick up a reasonable amount, probably somewhere in the vicinity of 30mm.

Just ignore the drivel in my above post..

It's a sunny day here so far with very light winds. We're heading for a warm 32 but I don't think it will quite get there.

Yes Steve - the BM's and GDR prove to be a serious barrier indeed.

The coast will get some fairly decent rain next week - plenty of humidity there as well. Should keep a lid on temps though along the strip.

BM's should get quite damp as well - orographic stuff and all that smile

Not our turn yet. Another time.

Although the easterly feed just MIGHT trigger an occassional storm out this way but not really expecting anything exciting smile

remember it works both ways. It pissed down all winter on and west of the ranges and we got very little here due to the GDR.

I know its drying off everywhere, but I think that wet winter put central and SW NSW and the ranges in good stead for this hot summer.

There has been almost non-existent maritime weather this summer, so if it does pay up it will be a long time coming. We really need to see a GFS 400mm blob right over us to make me feel all warm and fuzzy though.
