what is everyone thinking about rain totals for the current event, especially further inland to places like Penrith, Cessnock, Singleton etc. Looks like the models arent quite in agreeance again? GFS basically keeps everything to the coastal fringe and a shorter period of onshore flow. Im sensing that some decent showers might make it this far in 45k's from the coast, but not really holding my breath for too much.
Not looking like these storms will make it this far either. Might reform a bit with any luck as they approach...but onshore flow will probably just eat them up

I like what I'm seeing from windy.tv. If winds turn E to NE from Monday onwards.
Most of the showers will bypass Newcastle to Sydney.

Got a couple of mm in the end, then later on the power went out for 30min. Not much in it round here.

I've thought for a number of years that McCullochs Range, which is about halfway between Cobar and Wilcannia, on the Barrier Highway would be a good spot for a weather radar.

Sorry to have taken so long for a message from Lithgow. We scored quite a bit of hail (nothing as big as your average marble), 34 mm of rain and then a 2-3 hour blackout.
It was quite and eventful afternoon, packed with dozens of lightning strikes + the hail and heavy rain.
Maybe the end of summer?

Sunday's forecast now downgraded to 24C, almost autumnish for here, after such a long hot summer the aircon and associated electricity bill might finally get a reprieve this weekend.

There are some thunderstorms over the Warragamba catchment moving towards Sydney's SW. In addition, there's a chain of showers (no lightning) off the Illawarra about to cross into Sydney's Eastern suburbs. When I was last outdoors about 90 minutes ago, there was low cloud and light drizzle.

And Sydney's forecast? At the moment it's a bit like the punchline in Handel's Messiah, you know, the one that goes "And it shall rain forever and ever...". Well, for the whole weekend anyway, with showers each day for the following week or so.

Unfortunately, it looks pretty restricted to the coast, but Sydney's West, the Blue Mountains and the Hunter below Singleton should get reasonable totals.

There's the odd mention of thunderstorms over the next week. Does this look likely? I would have thought that a mostly SE flow and low-ish temps wouldn't generally set any off

Warm, humid, light rain, no wind, distant sheet lightning to the South and just now, a peal of thunder.

Storms have entered the Sydney Basin from the West (althought they seem to be losing intensity) and now from the South, with rapid buildup over the Eastern Suburbs).

Yeah it probably would be since it's higher than the surrounding land but not high enough to miss low level precipitation.

It has started raining tonight and was a bit heavy-ish coming through North Gong. The bad weather has come and it is so depressing to see that there's literally no end in sight. Tops of 20 expected in Wollongong for tomorrow and Sunday which is cold!!

Having weather like this makes me appreciate just how absent it was this summer. Sometimes we get several spells of prolonged wet weather during summer, but none this summer thus far. Typical autumn weather and unfortunately it is my least favourite season because it's prone to such awful weather on the coast. And autumn is boring apart from ECL's. I should just hibernate until May. April is the crappiest month of all for weather. You're always guaranteed a rainy and miserable run of weather in April.

Wake me up when this [censored] is over... Bye now.

If only there was a way to take the pain of rain from those who don't want it. From about the first of October we've had approx 165 mls. So heavy rain will do me quite fine.

Storms are moving along Sydney's coast. I can hear frequent rumbles and distant booms, with sheet lightning to the East. It would be interesting to hear from the Eastern Suburbs or the Manly area.

Rumblimg away nicely here at Kingsgrove too Steve. There appears to be a storm just offshore from about the airport, and another to my South/South West at the moment. I doubt we'll get to much from them here though.

Heavy loud on Mt Horrible this morning, mostly clear overhead, moderate NEaster. The wind seems to go straight from NW to E to NE without much from the S or SW this summer.
