Doggies look pretty good again this year .

When Sydney looked like they were on fire towards of the end of the third quarter and half way into the last the Doggies came back basically with force .Especially when the Buddy show got going...

They kicked a few goals in quick succession to extinguish any hope the Swans had of winning.

The decision of a free kick in front of goals with the forced behind seemed a bit dodgy to me though.

great game between two up and coming teams tonight, Essendon and Brisbane had a great tussle at the Gabba. Dons were up by 42 but Lions hit back and took the lead at one point, Essendon fought better in the 4th to record the win. but gee both teams were at the bottom of the ladder last year and both are vastly different and on the up!

Watch out for young Fantasia from the Bombers too, going to a real star of the game in years to come. Essendon take on Carlton next week, always close games. Then we have a real big test with Adelaide in Adelaide followed by Anzac Day. So some big games coming but a chance for the Bombers to have an impressive start to the season.

Eagles only came good in the last quarter against the Saints .

Saints led for three quarters of the game .Until Kennedy kicked 3 successive goals to seal their fate.

Saints got a really good backline though and great midfield and are going to win lots of games this year.

Finally the Dockers have won a game ...yay!

Having a stronger backline certainly does make a difference .

If they can beat the reigning premiers then they can beat anyone .....so they say..

What a week of upsets this round has been . Only picked 3 winners .

Good to see a few upsets though evens up the competition but who would of thought 3 finalist from last season would be on the bottom. Hawks ,Swans and Kangaroos still waiting for their first win..

very disappointing with Essendons loss today, had this one down as a must win going into adelaide at adelaide then collingwood. we just didnt play wet weather footy, was frustrating to watch.

Yes CF Suns are having a stellar day ...first time they ever beaten the Hawks.

Mick yes Bombers seemed to not take any of their opportunities albeit limited in front of goal in the second half.

Go Dockers hopefully on the way back up the ladder especially if they keep playing the way they did on Saturday night against the Doggies.

Yes those pesky crows look good don't they, tho they will miss McGovern who is an absolute star in the making. Still have the jury out on the tigers, they look pretty good at times but other times look a bit rattled. After this weekend tho I reckon its anyone's flag even if it is just after three rounds. Hopefully injuries don't defy a team going places this season, Max gawn a case in point.

The Pies looking a bit average yesterday .Jamie Elliot looks like he was a bit underdone but to be expected after so long out of the game.
Saints played well though.

Dockers had a good win against the Demons , only just though.
McCarthy's goal in the final minutes won it for the Dockers .Hes a great addition to the forward line which needed some fire after retirement of Pavlich.

Hawks going to have a long season if they start putting things together.
They got the players just lacking passion to win .

Hopefully a sign that the comp is evening up with the 3 bottom sides all last year finalist.

Anyway Dockers had a fall from grace last year about time for others to have a go... wink

Dockers edged out the luckless Roos for their 3rd consecutive win . Two weeks in a row they have won within the last 2 minutes..

Adelaide far too strong for the Suns.

Bullies had a amazing last quarter to win against the Lions and to add to the party with the celebration of Bob Murphy's 300th game.

Good on the Bombers beating the luckless Pies on Anzac day.
Overpowered them in the second half .All their young players doing extremely well esp Joe Daniher, Orazio Fantasia, Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti, .

Gee what a season this is looking to be already.
The crows are playing a brand of footy that is devastating for opposition teams at the moment. After seeing the cats succumb to the Pies and GWS struggle against the Doggies I think the Crows are well clear as flag favourites atm.
After that there is any number of teams that can make up the eight with imo only Hawks, Kangas, Lions and Swans the teams almost certain not to challenge for the eight. Early days yet I know but Swans surely cant make up this lost ground now and because the Hawks losses have been HUGE I doubt they will be anywhere other than a holiday destination come September.
Loving this season already wink

Dockers had a good win over the Bombers who seemed to run out of steam just when they needed it most.
What a strange week though .

All teams that sat below their opponents on the ladder won ...don't think that's ever happened before..

Eagles just hung on to beat the Doggies in Perth.

Amazingly Eagles only kicked 1 goal 9 points in the second half in a tough low scoring game to win by 9 points.

Bombers played well to get the Cats their third straight loss...

Dockers overcame a good start from the Blues to score a convincing win at home in the rain.

yeah im a happy boy this monday! not just cause of win but it was the first time this year essendon played four qtrs! slowly but surely our line up is coming together and working as a team with a plan. certainly not saying we are going to be making a big dent in september, but we continue to play like this we could make the 8. but a lot of water under the bridge between now and september.

disappointing loss by Essendon tonight in what was a close game all night. too many errors by my boys, esp in the last qtr cost us, needed the win badly with GWS and Port to come before the bye.

Yeh Mick I tipped your boys but didn't get to watch the game, as had visitors up from Adelaide who are mad Crow supporters. So ended up watching the Crows annihilate the dockers.
Next weeks game between Cats and Crows will be a ripper...
Cats will win that if they can hire the same umpires poke

About time Tigers won a close one. Was very disappointed with the 3 successive close losses. I think those losses will come back to haunt them, come September.

Eagles let that game slip against the Gold Coast .Eagles dropped lots of marks they should have taken which would have secured them a victory. Gold Coast played good pressure though footy to win the game.

Tigers back to their winning form by beating the Kangaroos by 6 goals .Martin was awesome and continually won the contested possessions which in the end proved the difference between the two sides.

Holy Moly if anyone is going to get 9 out of 9 in the tips this week then they need to be drug tested.
Again the Crows were found out by a team that wanted it more. I am now certain that ANYONE that finishes in the top eight at the end of the minor round can win the flag.
What an incredible season.

i disagree.
the change in rules have made the game stupid.
when was the last time second to bottom defeated the top team?

all games are close cause the rules penalise high skilled teams.

nah just joking, been overseas on holiday. I listened to the last 10min of the game on radio, so dissapointed after my boys kicked 7 goals in a row to get back in front. still it shows how better we are this year taking up the fight. lots of positives, but still sad we didnt get the 4 points.

Saints playing great footy at the moment definitely finals contenders.
Thrashed the Tigers tonight and made them look very ordinary.

carn the Dons!
i was a bit worried about how we would approach last nights game. obviously i need not be concerned. with straight kicking we could have won by 100 points. essendons first friday night win in 10 matches, and continues some good play of late, though our last 4 losses have all been by less than 16 points, they have been costly, winning 2 of those would have us in 4th spot now, not 9th. but what a close a compact season, roller coaster 6 weeks coming up.

in for a massive final two weeks of the season, final few spots are going to go down to the last few games of the year by the looks.

Proud!!
To finish last season on bottom to making the 8 this year i couldnt be prouder. I had us finishing 10th this year and thought that would be a stretch but to sneak in, wow.

thanks mate, was either port in away for swans away, both a hard task. we should have beaten the swans a few weeks back, let a 4 goal lead in the last qtr go, hopefully we come away with a better result.

west coast finished off the last AFL game at Subiaco with a win. Melb were in 8th spot by 0.1% with 4 minutes left, eagles kicked last two to seal 8th at the death. hate to be a Dees fan tonight.

my bombers year came to a sudden halt against a rampant Sydney today. Still couldnt be more proud of the team going from 18th to 8th this year. i expected us to finish tenth and we did better than that. while disappointed with todays result we didnt compete and were totally outplayed, i hang up the scarf knowing the club is heading in the right direction.

Bombers didn't have it even remotely yesterday, in their defence no other team in the AFL would want to take the the Swans on IMO.
Brilliant display by the Swans, in my mind the team to beat.

Port got robbed into extra time last night.
Doesn't get much closer than a game decided by a kick after the siren at the end of extra time.

All in all the Eagles' first and second quarters really positioned them nicely although Port played very well during the second half.

as a fan who watched his team go down by 1 point in prelim finals in '96 and '99, i can understand that pain of a loss. it hurts! even moreso when its a prelim lol
i prefer to get flogged by a team like essendon did on saturday rather than a one point loss. its easier to take that you just werent good enough to proceed than to know that you got so so close. you look at all those 50/50s that little moments you think wont amount to much and you think 'if only'. the joy of sport.

Totally agree Mick ,pretty frustrating to lose a game with a free kick on the siren.
Cannot say that Port didn't have their chances in front of goal ,some really bad misses .

They led to their own demise unfortunately . Port definitely looked shattered though.

Good on the Eagles though ,hopefully put up another good fight against the Giants.

Woohoo the Swans are gone! I didn't expect that but then the cats were embarrassed last week and didn't want to go out in straight sets. Best scenario from here would be a Crows v Tigers GF smile

Yes good to see the Cats win. Swans seemed to be off their game after the Cats went to work on them in the first half. Good coaching by Chris Scott to put Dangerfield into the forward line.

Dangerfield fired, Buddy was tired !

Thought Swans would be super competitive, never really
met the Cats at any stage.

Cats just looked to strong and didn't kick to opposition
like Swans did on occasions.(Buddy)

On recent finals form the teams that obliterate one week are having a fail the next, come on RICHMOND...........best of luck !

Doubling scores in finals, got me beat how these walk overs are happening, thought they should be much more competitive games.

Well its D day for the Crows and the Tigers. All or nothing! There seems to be a swing away from the Crows for favouritism. I've noticed a lot in the media in particular now embracing the Richmond juggernaut. Theres a swirly wind to contend with which might play havoc with the Crows precision game. Lets just hope its a close one with a nail biting finish. I don't care who wins so long as its ADELAIDE. CARN the CROWS!

Good to see them win after so many years of final flops.

Ah well, if we had to lose to anyone I'd prefer that to be Richmond. Shame it wasn't closer. Adelaide started alright but as the game progressed they wilted under pressure, began to doubt themselves and in the end never looked like it. Don't think I'll be watching the highlight reel. There weren't any frown

congrats to the tigers, what a great effort yesterday. dominated the game after the first qtr. Crows are my second favourite team and wanted them to win but cant take anything away from Richmonds performance this year, esp after such a bad year last year. Alot of respect for Damian Hardwick as a player and as a coach.

Pretty disappointing final series really, not many interesting games at all.

Certainly not disappointed in the final result though, crows got it handed to them comprehensively. It's amazing how quiet the local media is about the loss after weeks of talking them up lol

Richmond hit overdrive and fixed up the inter-staters, kept waiting for a come back from the crows but they didn't have it on the day.

WELL DONE TIGERS!!

Well, looks like you got your wish!!

I seem to remember reading somewhere at the beginning of the season (the sports section in the Advertiser I think) that Richmond were predicted to finish 9th.

I didn't really know what was happening in the finals series as I was on the other side of the planet and didn't access the internet much.

First I knew Richmond were going places was when my boss texted me that they had made the GF. Next text was that they had won, although it was delayed by 24hrs after the GF game smile (my boss is a Crows supporter).

BUT, as a long suffering & frustrated Tigers supporter, I'm really happy they finally got their act together and won the big one!

Now if only Glenelg can get their act together in the SANFL....
