Absolutely torrential rain , incredible actually. Meanwhile it has been fairly heavy for 20 mins but only just turned to torrential.

Yep heaviest rain we've seen this entire event. Rainfall here would have to be up past 10mm for the last 20 mins now. It is soooo localised, like Unanderra just a few km north is completely dry.

The middle part of Sydney from the Eastern suburbs through to the area South of Penrith has been in the path of a series of 'rain trains' since about 5:00AM. After a mostly sunny and relatively dry day (just 2 mm) yesterday, OH has received 22 mm* since about 5:00AM, with more on the way. Other parts of Sydney would have had a similar experience.

EDIT: * Most of that, 13 mm, fell between 5:00 and 5:10AM.

Amazingly heavy showers in coastal areas! shocked

We had a few mm over the past 24 hours - better than nothing but not nearly enough. Meteye has upped the total for us over the next 4 days as the trough off the coast deepens to the south. Expecting from 13mm to 45mm. Hope the higher total prevails. Add an inland trough to the current scenario and we would get larger totals.

This is a typical late summer pattern: east coast gets an easterly flow with showers, while Adelaide bakes in heat. Glad they're getting a bit of what we had to put up with for the better part of 6 weeks. smirk

Cloudy here, clouds coming from the East, with blue sky way off to the west and looks showery on Mt Horrible. The weather is quite warm for this sort of easterly, usually it would be a bit cooler, 23 now and max of 28 yesterday. I quite enjoyed going to the Blue Mts for a day, mist and showers with an occasional rumble. Quite normal for this time of year but again a bit warmer than usual.

Warm and fairl cloudy here. With big white, fluffy, grey-bottomed clouds with blue sky in between. Haven't seen any rain since I got up, although I have been indoors for much of that time.

There are some heavy showers about, e.g. near Hombush and Mangrove Mountain. Some are penetrating well inland (e.g South of Jenolan). It's just a matter of luck whether one passes over you.

GFS and BOM are now toying with that low. They develop off Illawarra, drift it away E/SE, but now suggesting it to strengthen well offshore, but come back towards Mid North Coast.

The interest factor is at least welcomed for us weather nuts.

Been a sight for sore eyes for people like me who love watching crisp billowing cumulus against a deep blue sky, every quadrant in the sky has some, not that theyre developing into monsters or anything but a few glaciate a little and develop brief anvils, the tropical type downpours are so enjoyable also, had one at glenorie yesterday around midday that was 5 mins of amazingly heavy (no thunder). The shouldve been empty by now Warragamba Dam has held up really well over the hot dry summer, still with 88% capacity before this events runoffs, and with whats to come over the next week, the poor old desal plant will have to lie dormant for another year.

Little bit of light drizzle here from the tiniest blip on radar. It amazingly reached 26C at Bellambi and 27C at Albion Park so actually a rather warm day.

Well, we have received 10mm yesterday morning and 12mm this morning. So we have had basically an inch since Saturday morning. While it is nice, but it is not enough after the scorchers we have had to endure the last 3 months with little rainfall.

Singleton official rainfall readings are always about 10-20% more on average then what we get our at our place, even though we are about 5km NE of the reading spot and slightly on a higher elevation (at least we are out of flood reach). We generally see rain pass us by going over Whittingham and never crossing the Hunter River onto our side on the north.

Lol, I work in Whittingham (spend more of my life there than at home), which is where the weather station is - but slightly further away and higher up. *down Golden Highway
Not a lot of rain today, intermittent showers, but no real downpours noted.

The weather station is currently at the sewage treatment plant just off Army Camp Road, and previously, between 1991 and 2002 at the Singleton Water Board on Waterworks Lane, and previously before that it was at the Army Barracks from 1969 to 1991. Before that I think it was at Singleton Post Office.

Heavy rain just started here, the first rain I've seen today. A tiny cell, just visible on the 64km radar, just popped up.

------

The models now seem to be agreed that an ECL is on the cards, forming overnight Saturday / Sunday off the Illawarra or Sydney coast and wandering around the Tasman like Brown's cows for several days, mostly near the Northern half of the NSW coast. This seems to be consistent with the latest 7 day forecast.

Long term GFS shows a spell if Westerlies March 11-14 (looking forward to that) before a return to an Easterly pattern at the end of the run.
