Superb info, maps and photos Logansi. Many thanks. If the upper limits of the progged rain for next week are met, then these fires will die "not with a bang, but with a wimper.". It low rainfall totals, they'll probably splutter on for a while but I doubt there'll be (thankfully) any serious blow-out.

Yep, once the weekend is over things start looking a bit better.

Crooker river fire continues to move most on the Northern and Eastern sides, back burning being conducted on the south side based on line scan. Aircraft up early today, bombers operating out of the snow range airstrip today, just 10km or so to the west

Crooked River fire seems to be flaring this afternoon. Smoke now showing up on radar along with being clearly visible on satellite. Currently 4 Helitacks, 4 bombers and 3 recon aircraft in the air, appears another Helitack may be heading that way too.

Yep hopeful this is its last run. Still a risk tomorrow is storms miss the fire sight, inflow and outflow winds can be erratic and push fires around rapidly.

Yeah spot on mate. Looking at gfs and
There's bugger all rain progged for around
The fire area tommoz so could be another
Day that it runs! Good point u make regarding
Storms around that area tommoz, unless there
Large storms incorporating heavy rain, then
The strong unstableness around them could
Be of concern

Main concern is any movement to the north or east, couple of isolated properties along the Wonnangatta Valley - Retardant bombing has been focused on that northern side all afternoon with the single engine air tankers I think.

Heap of farming properties/holiday houses on small acreage in the Wonnangatta River Valley, good rain this week will be answer to most of the current problems with any luck.

Dredged up this pic of the remnants of the old Pinnacles Fire Building, can't call it a tower really as it sat on the ground.

This pic also shows the burnt view towards Dargo from the tower site.

Just to add to the thread loganski, little bit of previous fire history of this area, both these were after the 2006/07 fire that started early Dec'2006.

Billy Goat area after a hot fire.

Appeared from the aircraft tracker they were doing retardant drops around the current Pinnacles Fire late today.

Now listed at 2717ha, so at least at least a 700ha run this afternoon - by far the largest daily jump. No line scan update so far.

Hopefully rain arrives tomorrow.

Very lucky this wasn't 2 months ago (with same dryness) or this would have become a major fire with longer, warmer days. Hopefully it isn't an ominous warning for next season.
