Hello Folks:
Here's previous weeks' weather in Mena, Arkansas:

For the week of Mar. 5-11: Mena's Avg. Max.: 60.1F/15.6C; Avg. Min.: 36.2F/2.3C

Well, the weather-pattern continues to be very active as we draw closer to Springtime. The light rain on the 5th was from an Upper-Level Low to our South; a Pacific cold front went through on the 7th & a Canadian cold front passed through on the 10th (at least the 11th felt more like a proper Winter day). Quite a temperature roller-coaster in the week for sure. In these parts, it's said: "You know it's Spring for sure when you see the Redbuds (Redbud Trees) blooming". Well, I saw the Redbuds just down the street starting to bloom on the 7th.
Overall Low-11:47PM-listed for the 7th; Overall Low-11:55PM-listed for the 10th; Overall High-12:01AM & Overall Low-11:20PM-listed for the 11th (the Afternoon Maximum was a chilly 42F/5.5C--with a very cool E wind--around 12:14PM). Parts of NW & N Arkansas copped small amounts of accumulating snow overnight 11th/12th.
Forecast for upcoming week calls for rebounding temperatures with more good shower chances by the weekend.

For convenience--for those who haven't seen the vid I posted on the US Severe Weather thread--I'll re-post the vid here:
This vid is a Doppler Radar Timelapse of the US Weather for all of 2016: The loop at Feb. 23rd shows a good Doppler signature of Low-Pressure (vortex) passing to our South (this usually gives good rain/snow amounts to my area); the loop, beginning Sept. 27th shows a HUGE "cut-off" Low-Pressure which is "retrograding" back to the West. In late-July through much of August, the outline of the "Bermuda High" is easy to be seen as thundershowers fire-off around the periphery of it; and areas of showers move in odd directions; shower areas moving in clockwise fashion. In Arkansas, the "ground clutter" in the center of the state is the capital city of Little Rock, the "ground clutter" in the Western part is the city of Fort Smith; Mena is around 65miles/~104kilometers SSE of Fort Smith.
The Very Interesting vid is here:

For the week of Mar. 12-18: Mena's Avg. Max.: 62.0F/16.6C; Avg. Min.: 38.2F/3.4C

*=This is a new Rec. High Max. for Date (Broke 78F/25.5C in 1995)

This last full week of Winter has steadily rebounding temperatures, with some cool mornings and--especially late-week--Springlike warmth. A Canadian cold front passed through on the 13th (not many of this type of cold front here this Winter) and another (very weak) Canadian cold front passed by on the 18th (only giving day-long cloudcover, but nothing fell from the sky). We also had another Winter day with a maximum of 80F+/26.6C+ in this very strange & mild Winter of 2016/2017. The early-week temperatures felt fairly chilly, compared to the recent warmth & this week featured multiple mornings with freezing or below minimums--first time with at least 2 freezing (or below) minimums in the same week here since the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4.
Overall Low-10:49PM-listed for the 13th; Overall High-10:38PM-listed for the 16th (as strong & gusty S winds caused a nighttime temperature rise).
Forecast for upcoming week calls for very warm (close to record-breaking) warmth early-week, followed by a cool-down and good shower chances for Wednesday & Friday.

Here's a Doppler Radar Loop for the US' weather for all of 2012:
(Doppler in main map; Infrared in top right, Visible Cloudcover in bottom right. Significant Weather Events listed as the pointer passes red marks at bottom).

Wow 2016 was a bad year for snow. So you didn't get any settling snow? That would be very disappointing after 2015. What's your average snowfall total?

Hello Wave Rider(& ALL):

No, I had no settling (we say accumulating) SNOW in 2016. The conditions have to be just right for my area to get accumulating SNOW: The usual good scenario is a Southerly-Tracking LOW (Pressure)--the vortex of which comes ashore in S California and tracks Eastward across S parts of Arizona, New Mexico & central Texas, upon reaching my area the vortex needs to be a bit South of my location (so my area will be in the colder air quadrant) and the counter-clockwise circulation will throw good amounts of precipitation on my area. Sadly, we did not get many of those types of Low-Pressures or it was too warm when they did pass by (in 2016).

Actually, Snowfall here can vary greatly from year to year. I believe my area of the US should average around 4"/10.1CM of snow yearly.

Many Thanks & Have A Good One~~~Wet Snow

*=This is a new Rec. High Max. for Date (Broke 82F/27.7C in 1982)

Spring officially arrived here in the NH on the 20th, with some very above-normal temperatures throughout the week. The (Record High) Max. on the 21st was only 6 degrees F./2.4 degrees C. below Mena's All-Time High Maximum temperature for March. The days were very nice; very, very windy (pre-frontal winds) on the 23rd & 24th. A dry Canadian cold front passed by on the 22nd & the nice raindump was courtesy of a Pacific cold frontal passage.
Overall Low-10:25PM-listed for the 24th (the morning min. was a balmy 62F/16.6C).
Forecast for upcoming week calls for similar conditions, with good shower chances and another cool-down by mid-week.

Here's the Doppler, Infrared, Cloudcover Loops for US' weather for all of 2010:
Tropical systems include: Hurricane Alex (June 25-July 2), Tropical Storm Bonnie (July 22-24), Tropical Depression #5 (Aug. 10-11), Hurricane Danielle (not landfalling, Aug. 21-30), Hurricane Earl (Aug. 25-Sep. 4), Tropical Storm Hermine (Sep. 5-9), Hurricane Igor (not landfalling, Sep. 8-21), Tropical Storm Nicole (Sep. 28-29) & Hurricane Paula (Oct. 11-15).
...My area doesn't usually see any rain from the remnants of Tropical Systems, but I recorded rain from the remnants of ex-Hurricane Alex (1.00"/25.4mm--July 3) & from remnants of Tropical Storm Hermine (Tot.: 5.20"/132mm [2.20"/55.8mm--Sept.7; 0.50"/12.7mm--Sept. 8; 2.50"/63.5mm--Sept. 9]). For the week of Mar. 26-Apr. 1: Mena's Avg. Max.: 66.0F/18.8C; Avg. Min.: 41.5F/5.2C.

Another warm early-Spring week with ample rainfall. Thundershower activity brought by the passage of a couple Pacific cold fronts--on the 27th & 29th. Very low humidity levels on the 31st--as evidenced by the very wide temperature spread.
Overall Low-11:46PM-listed for the 27th; Overall Low-11:53PM-listed for the 29th; Overall Low-11:50PM-listed for the 30th. Thankfully, my area--thus far--has avoided any Very Severe & Damaging weather.
Forecast for upcoming week continues the warmer-than-normal temperature theme with Very Good Thundershowers chances in first-half of week. Virtually all local trees have sprouted leaves & my blue iris buds are getting bigger as are the tulip buds growing down my front sidewalk.

Here's A Very Interesting Cloudcover Video Clip: This shows the Tropical Activity (Tropical Storms/Hurricanes are listed with their particulars) For the Atlantic Basin for the 2005 season (the infamous "Katrina" season). If the animation seems a bit jumpy, the days with the most activity are shown. The interesting background music is a song aptly entitled "The Rain" by Stato Brado.
(I actually copped rain from the remains of Katrina--but only a TRACE on August 29th--from the very Western area of circulation. I copped a total of 3"/76.2mm [2.80"/71.1mm on Sept. 24 & 0.20"/5.0mm on Sept. 25] from the remains of Ex-Hurricane Rita. The landfalling trajectory of Rita is just about perfect for my area to see rain from a tropical system).
Vid clip is here: (Date: Month & Date are below animation).

This week feature very variable early-Spring conditions with ample raindumps. Rainfall activity was courtesy of Low-Pressure to our South (on the 2nd) & passage of a Pacific cold front (late PM on the 4th). The conditions on the 5th felt very chilly (damp with Easterly breezes) compared to the unseasonal warmth of the days beforehand; leaving chillier mornings on the 6th & 7th.
Overall Low-5:30PM (during showers)-listed for the 2nd; Overall Low-11:38PM-listed for the 3rd; Overall Low-11:50PM-listed for the 5th.
Forecast for upcoming week calls for Very Good Thundershower chances early-week with warmer conditions afterwards.

Here's another great YouTube vid: This shows the tracks, particulars & cloud loops of the Tropical Storms & Hurricanes for the Atlantic Basin for 2004. (The eye/eyewall of Hurricanes Charley, Frances & Jeanne all passed over the town of Sanford, Florida!!! What's the chances of that happening!?!?!). The eye of Hurricane Frances actually hit Florida twice (entering on Atlantic Ocean side--passing to W, then curving N to hit the Gulf of Mexico side). Again, the background music are versions of the US Weather Channel theme music. I copped rainfall from the remnants of Tropical Storm Matthew (1.85"/46.9mm on Oct. 10).

Hello Folks:
Here's sketches of Mena, Arkansas' weather from 1890-1894:

PREFACE: Since the town of Mena wasn't founded until 1896 (lots were sold in June of that year & the 1st train came through on August 19th, which is regarded as Mena's "birthday"), I'm unsure who the local weather observer was or the location where the weather observations were taken. The first entry was for .50"/12.7mm rain that fell on Dec. 6, 1890. Temperature observation entries began on Jan. 1, 1891. In those early years, there was a fair amount of missing (temperature, rain, snow) data.

Forecast for upcoming week calls for continued warm conditions (tops near 80F/26.6C, mornings near 60F/15.5C) with the next cool-down & raindump near the weekend.
Hope Everyone Enjoyed a Very Blessed & Happy Easter!

Would you say that Winter 2016-2017 was rather mild for your town?

Our summer was very warm and humid, but half way through March we went straight to Autumn, no gradual come down. April so far - pleasant.

Hello Ozthunder & ALL:

Yes, DEFINITELY, this past Winter had to be the Mildest In Quite A Long Time (I Can't Remember a Warmer Winter than this past one). Of a normal ~90 Day Winter Season, My town normally sees 50+ Winter Mornings with a Minimum of 32F/0C or less. This past Winter only saw 19 such mornings.
I'm wondering what this Summer (in the NH) will be like this year!

Yes, the sudden temperature changes in Australia never cease to Amaze me!

For the week of Apr. 16-22: Mena's Avg. Max.: 71.5F/21.9C; Avg. Min.: 47.0F/8.3C

This past week featured warm & humid-feeling conditions with a couple good raindumps. Rainfall was courtesy of passage of a couple Pacific cold fronts--passage on 17th & 21st. A number of the mornings started cloudy/mostly cloudy and giving way to mostly sunny conditions by early PM hours. Felt quite cool (on the 22nd) in the wake of the cold front; cloudy & cool with chilly WNW breezes and a Daytime Maximum of only 58F/14.4C (around 4PM). Noticed that mosquitoes are already out and about (on the 20th).
Overall High-12:01AM-listed for the 22nd.
Forecast for the upcoming week calls for more up-and-down temperatures with very good thundershowers at midweek & near the weekend.

My thoughts, prayers & deep respect go out to the troops (past & present) & their families on this ANZAC Day. GOD Bless Them All For Their Selfless & Sacrificing Service.

For the week of Apr. 23-29: Mena's Avg. Max.: 73.0F/22.7C; Avg. Min.: 49.1F/9.5C

This week featured somewhat warm & humid afternoons with some chilly mornings and continued good thundershower events. Rain on 26th & 29th were courtesy of Pacific cold fronts. A warm front (headed N) passed through on the 29th & the trailing Pacific cold front passed through early this (Sun.) morning. The showers were more scattered in my area, as the heavier & more widespread ("training") shower cells were in parts of N, NW & NE Arkansas; as some locations picked up in excess of 8"/203+mm rain over the weekend, leading to widespread flooding conditions. Earlier on Friday, the (US) Weather Channel reported that the CAPE over E Texas was at the 4,000 level--LOTS of humid & juicy air for thundershower/storm development. The Warm front was very evident here, despite the solid cloudcover: In an effort to beat the rain, I started mowing my yard about 1PM on Friday. It felt chilly so I had a long-sleeved heavy shirt on & a T-shirt on underneath; around 1:45PM, the Warm Front (moving from S to N) moved through (gusty S winds) and I started to feel quite warm & discarded my outer heavier shirt.
Overall High-12:01AM & Overall Low-11:40PM-listed for the 26th (the Daytime Maximum was a somewhat cool 63F/17.2C around 9AM). Overall High-12:01AM & Overall Low-11:53PM-(as the temperature slowly fell all day) listed for the 29th.
Forecast for upcoming week calls for a brief warm-up before more Thundershowers arrive by mid-week, followed by rebounding temperatures.

I've viewed this well-done vid a number of times. I actually copped a total of 5.65"/143.5mm rain (Sept. 1: TRACE; Sept. 2: 4.10"/104.1mm; Sept. 3: 1.55"/39.3mm) from Tropical Storm (ex-Hurricane) Gustav & I also copped a total of 3.95"/100.3mm rain (Sep. 12: 0.30"/7.6mm; Sep. 13: 3.40"/86.3mm & Sep. 14: 0.25"/6.3mm) from Tropical Storm (ex-Hurricane) Ike. They both had landfalling trajectories which give my area the best chance of seeing rainfall from a Tropical System.
