Glad to see you got some more snow down south. We had some heavy showers last night (not sure on exact measurements as weather station not giving reliable readings). We have touches of blue sky and sunshine today here in Somerset. Wind is still quite chilly and biting.

Looking more closely at some of the notable snowfalls - based partly on looking at the data and partly on my memory of being snowed in. The 1993 and 1994 snowfalls both had observed snow falling in the city, the 1993 saw snow showers through the afternoon of the 12th, with a thunderstorm noted as 12am on the 13th. Likewise on the morning of the 19th of Sep 1994 snow was observed falling in the city over a number of hours.

I've got a few others that I'll put up eventually, including a couple that based on the numbers alone, you wouldn't have picked if you didn't experience them.

Hi all,

Snow has mostly melted here except for the odd little patch that made it through the rain last night.

Max 3.9 degrees, currently 2.1 degrees and has been down to 1.7 degrees after the last shower.

2.4mm so far since 9am and snow and sleet showers all day.
Tried to settle again around 3pm but shower ended.

Fresh snow in the trees at 450m

Should get frosty tonight!!

Snowies...A revelation to see 1993 and 1994 as years Hobart had snowfall but I believe it, just find it hard to recall.

Other dates that might interest are
22 July 1991...Very cold and windy with snow flurries in morning.
13-16 August 1991...Very low level snow settling
5 September 1995...heavy snow down to about 150m level, snowfall city.
9 July 1997...Snowfall at sealevel in evening, settling briefly 150m.

There were so many back then. Hopefully I have those dates correct

I have looked at the 95 event and the 97 event - just haven't posted. A sep event in 96 was worth a look as was a second event in 94, early aug.

1991 was a good year...

Just had a squiz at the Rosebay webcam pic. Wow, gotta be one of the sights of the world: the mount capped in fresh snow under crystal clear blue southern skies! smile

Any memory is a good memory, especially as you get older...

and yes, it's a pretty speccy sight the old mountain when it's under snow.
