This is a new event, so might as well delineate the topic from the last one.

some light shower activity here at the moment, only been going a few minutes.

Unfortunately Bx is near the northern end of this huge cloud clump. We won't get much but areas further south may do better. Orange will get another nice little drop too.

Models still varying a bit over what, where, when etc for the next few days.

It looks fairly widespread in general. Some places may end up with 30 or 40mm by Sunday but others may be a lot less.

At least it seems mainly centred west of the GDR at the moment. give the coasties a bit of respite. smile

The sound of the now heavier rain - lovely to these ears smile

Already there have been some decent rain in the 15-50mm range overnight across the NW and CW slopes/plains with this event. Further falls should cement this as a genuine autumn break for many areas, extending eastwards onto the Tablelands. Steady light to moderate rain has fallen here for the past couple of hours.

Still waiting for my Autumn break here smile

Hopefully we will actually see some pleasant rain over the next few days smile

A lot of places certainly still need it. EG we have had only about 60mm for the full year so far. Plenty other places similar or worse than here.

Looks like you should be getting a bit of light rain now DaveM just going off the Wollongong Radar but yes a very dry start of the year for the CT's. Up until the first week of March it was a very dry start for most of the SE of NSW in general though.

Heres hoping we see a few fronts through April/May to clear this humidity, deliver some rain to the CT's and maybe even spin up the odd ECL or three!

Rain here yet though Bellambi has picked up a quick 3mm, so these showers are clearly heavy, despite the radar suggesting that they're light.

That rainy mass is heading in this direction but I don't imagine there should be heaps of rain here since it's coming from the NW. But look at those falls to the west, Orange 20mm, Cowra 19mm, Parkes 24mm etc. You should get 10mm or so I would think Dave, judging by the falls further west.

A number of rumbles as it passed through.

Backing off again at the moment but great for about 15 minutes. grin

Airport says 5mm but I suspect actually about 7 now.

Yes, sneaky storm heading my way. It may die out but I can smell rain in the air. It's also warm and humid enough for one. Can hear a few rumbles already.

I see that Bathurst Airport at 25.6mm (just over an inch in the old money) has overtaken Orange Airport at 21.4.

It's been humid and mostly cloudy here, with a few sunny breaks. No measurable rain at OH rain for nearly 48 hours, although we might get something later. Wyong is about to be hit by a red core.

EDIT: Severe thunderstorm warning has been extended to cover all of the Central Tablelands, all of the Central Westandand Hunter plus inland parts of the Metro, Illawarra and South Coast.

Cell to my NW is putting out constant rumbles, inching closer... gonna be a slow mover, hopefully doesn't lose its power before it hits grin

Just further to that - lots of pages throughout the day for SES units. I can see Central West region is sending out of area crews to assist Parkes. Some flash flooding at Eugowra, and a structure fire out at Young.

Haven't seen anything for em, but they might not page on the Mt Canobolas tower - range is quite limited sometimes.

Storms are reaching Sydney's outer West, although they seem to be falling apart as they push in (from the NW). It looks dark that way but I can't see any structure. I was able to see the reamins of the Wyong storm about half an hour ago.

Nice little cluster of cells tracked in from the NW concentrating across the northside of Orange in the last half hour. Guage here is heading past 40mm for the day. Brightening up to the west now, but heading to Bathurst.

Detailed severe thunderstorm warning issue for the cell North of Richmond for large hail and heavy rain. They are forecast to affect Cattai and Glenorie by 4:25 pm and Hornsby, Berowra, Dural and Terrey Hills by 4:55 pm. So maybe something for Homer. The General warning has been extended to cover Sydney and the Northern Illawarra.

EDIT: Black core heading for Maroota area.

Some of the cloud lowerings look a bit funnel-ly to me (looking NW from the CBD) but I'm too far away to tell if it's just the shape or a bit of rotation getting 1/3 to 1/2 of the way to the ground

And here comes the rain, fairly heavy after a slow start. I'd send it to Duane if I could.

Edit: Camden has picked up 24mm in an hour.

Edit2: I don't have a good view of the sky here - too many high rises and tall trees, so I can't see any structure.

Small areas of hail around the Plumpton area if the radar is to be believed.

Lots of rumbling and light rain around here (Green Valley). I just got an SMS from by car insurer to protect my car!

Steve777,

I wasn't at home when the storm hit so do not really know how bad it was.
I was actually sitting in the M2 car park at Marsfield and couldn't believe how quickly it built up.
Saw plenty of great lightning bolts and the rain was very heavy and the storm back built for a while right over the top of me. The further west I went, so did the storm, even though it was travelling south east.
I too noticed what looked to be several small funnel clouds and thought so at the time Jimi. Just small rotations in the storm I suppose.

Round 2 is just about to hit. and the storm had black in it a few frames ago.
This is certainly not what the BOM were expecting today. I wonder what changed?

Edit: constant rumbling

Just heard a load crack of thunder (Chatswood). There's flickering lightning and the rain's back.

I haven't seen a CG fest to the west like this in a long time. Constant thunder too. Not far off now.
Had some ripper flanges in the CBD earlier too.

Driving home from Uni through Figtree and suddenly saw a CG then some loud thunder towards the SW, and then a few more. Then in Unanderra and Kembla Grange, I must've got under the storm because there was amazing torrential rain and puddles everywhere. Looks like my place didn't get the main part of the storm.

I must look at the radar archive, and I will post a pic from the top of Mt Keira too.

And wow Bathurst has had more rain than Orange today!!

Loads of thunder. Encountered a bit of a downpour in Wyong early arvo. Some impressive storm clouds then. The height was stupendous. But it wasnt severe in the end.
You finally got a good drink Dave. Well done

Nice decent cells near Jerrys Plains, so Derek should get something at his place.

I'd like to say Stormy and Gringos will get something but I don't think that will be the case.

Surrounded by storms here at the moment. Quite a lightning display to the South, East, West and Northwest. We've had a couple of really heavy showers around the district this afternoon but only 8mm so far here at the farm. Hopefully a bit more overnight smile

I'll get it before Derek.

Just starting g to spit now. I have been watching the light show for the last hour and half, as I was mowing some of the lawn.

Plenty of rumbles, along of lightning being seen. Very slow moving atm. Shame I don't have a decent camera to take any video or shots. Preparing for a huge blackout, and possible light into strikes on the property. Where have a bad reputation with lightning strikes. So doing the Scout's duty, being prepared.

Awesome stuff Max, you've definitely been getting your fair share of light shows, though not direct hits.

You live Singleton don't you J Pabo?

And looks like a little something for Knotty at The Entrance too.

Well, there goes the lightning show.

Just looked on the radar and you can see it fizzle out when it hit the mine sites.

Sorry Derek if you don't get much of a light show, so you can blame it on Bulga and Warkworth mines. I see that happen plenty of times.

Yeah WR, Im at Singleton. Enjoying a couple of beers after doing some work in the yard, watching over one petrified Kelpie under the ute, and another who just loves to be patted.

Also worth noting is the two week GFS forecast here: http://www.australianweathernews.com/sitepages/forecasts/forecast_ww_rain.shtml

That's some massive inland falls if it comes through - some riverine flooding out of that I'd bet.

Results were well above forecast for GFS today, so I wouldn't put much stock in it for this event.

Edit:

This is the tail end of latest GFS run that shows the crazy rain for NSW - seems like a very unlikely scenario:

That's probably true that the mines affect storm activity due to the large treeless nature of them. I don't think it's just coincidence.

A couple of beers watching a storm- sounds really nice.

I like the storm maps you post on here David.

I dare say the amount of carbon dust around the area also increases the lightning activity. So looking at the radar, it seems to have a lot before it reached the mines, as well we were having more easterly breezes the last couple of days. Normally we get westerlies that actually increases the amount of strikes we get on the eastern side of the mines.

Well, I put the dogs in their pens with a nice couple of frozen bones. I should have gotten the scaredy cat Kelpie to do a oil change for me while she was under the Ute. smile

We only received never 3.5mm out of that storm too. Something is better then nothing.

Anyway a view from above the clouds today. Was lovely and peaceful up there, not another single person and just as I was walking back to the car it started pouring down and the view was blotted out. Taken about 5:30pm

PS: Interesting Pabo, you might be right.

Came home from work to find 46mm in the gauge. Have since had a further 8mm from 2 showers this evening for a total of 54mm. Happy happy.

Had to go to Forbes today to replace a sensor at the Cottons Weir gauging site that got zapped this morning. Torrential conditions at times. There was some good runoff into the farm dams and local creeks, especially around Eugowra driving back this afternoon.

Looks like round two is on it's way for the basin. Ended up with 21mm from that good thunderstorm and more to come even though we don't really need it.
Cant complain.

Was a really lightning-intense cell over the northern beaches around 18:45... lots and lots of CC and a few very intense CGs!

I noticed a really strange cloud formation below what seemed to be a relatively inactive cell... has anyone seen something like this before?

It has been a while since I have been there (10+ years). It used to be a bit of a stomping ground for my mates and I. We used to ride up on our BMX's via Mt Keira Road and progress towards Mount Ousley Road via Clive Bissell Drive and ride down Mt Ousley. The speeds we used to get was unbelievable, and have replaced many wheel bearings and hubs over the years. I wouldn't do it now, a lot more traffic then about 30 years ago.

The hardest was to get up was Bulli Pass, as they wasn't really easy ways to get up the top and ride down that. Certainly not for the faint hearted.

Macquarie Pass was fun too, the easiest way at the time was to catch a train from Unanderra and go to Robertson Station and then ride down it. Used to be a nice train ride through the scrub and escarpment, and only went a couple of times during the day. I don't think they have that service anymore.

We used to catch a train Kembla Grange Station to Otford Park (both stations were unattended - so we didn't purchase tickets) and do the run from Stanwell Tops along Lawrence Hargraves Drive (before that new bridge was ever a thought) as well.

I have never ridden down Mt Ousley, but I know my dad has and he has clocked 75km/h going down the last part of it. I've rode down Mt Keira though and into Figtree, that was very fun. Also the road from Bald Hill down to Stanwell Park was exhilarating with cars right behind us.

Wow Bulli Pass would've been sketchy and same with Macquarie Pass. There's always been an urge to ride down the Mac Pass for me but it would be pretty dangerous as there's a lot of trucks that drive down it. I think the Unanderra to Moss Vale train only runs as a luxury diesel train called the "Cockatoo Run". It's very expensive.

I was actually up the top of the escarpment in catchment area (highly restricted) not long ago and it stopped at a lookout that we happened to be at. My brother and I had to hide for a while and the hoards of people were oblivious to our presence.

Well it's not the attended stations you have to worry about now, it's the coppers that might decide to get on your train. I never tap on at Wollongong on Friday nights after town (2am train) because no one else does. So if I'm going down, everyone else is too. poke

Yes, it's so good to finally have some real rain. The best I've seen since last year.

Bathurst was showing about 40mm mtd before yesterday but that rain almost all fell west of the Macquarie River, my side had only a few sprinkles. Hence my joy in finally getting a proper drop. Happy happy happy grin

Looking like you might get some more rain too today, but storms so it might be hit and miss. Certainly humid enough 21C with 100%- that would be almost unheard of there!

Missed editing time by seconds.

Very warm here 26C with Hugh Midity hanging around and NO wind. 23C at Moss Vale so if the seabreeze held off, 30C would be possible under normal conditions. But it's a pretty wet lapse rate so maybe 28C is possible.

We had 3mm in the early evening last night from a shower and there seemed to be a good chunk heading in from midnight, but was going to be a bit hit and miss. It definately missed here, but someone told me it rained heavily overnight at Ellalong....Stormy can you confirm? if thats the case, it trying to balance the rain scales locally.

Glad you got the rain DaveM. Everyone is slowly getting a turn. It does seem to be heading towards a drier period after the next few days though.

Keent to get under a slow moving cell that puts down a couple inches. It will really do a lot with everything primed. Good LI's and CAPE and shear around here for this afternoon. Should pay up something I would think.

yeah thats what I thought. this person telling porkies, or their idea of heavy rain is 3 spits of drizzle (or they dreamt it). Little bit of sun now, but still a good 7/8 cloud. The more heat we get, the bigger the show today for sure....

Duane - glad you got some precip out of that - hope you get more.

Stormy - you still missing out? Struth - hope you get a good drop soon. Pray for a gully raker!!

Alby - yes you've had more than double my rain for the month, this is a very WIDE town smile A number of these storms earlier in the month had very sharp cut off edges. All good now though grin

Very hot here and a beautiful partly cloudy day. No wonder I'm sweating, it's 30C and 23C DP!!! Never expected that warmth today, though the DP is unsurprising.

Must be cloudier in Sydney since we're even beating Penrith.

It cleared here just before noon after a mostly cloudy morning with periods of light rain (enough to wet the windscreen but not enough to register). At around 11:00 I could see a clearing edge to the West, with interesting looking convective clouds on the horizon beyond.

It's now sunny, still, warm (about 30) and very humid.

Stormy - sorry you're missng out on the rain. You're about the same distance from the sea as Sydney's outer West but the latter has done far better (about 180 mm month to date at Penrith). You seem to have the Wattagans between yourself and the sea, and more high ground to the South, so you might be in a bit of a rain shadow. On the other hand, it might be just a matter of where the butterly flaps its wings. Hopefully you get some later today.

The sky has that classic stormy look with development in the general westerly direction like the afternoons I remember from the late 00's that were common but aren't so common these days. There should be some nice but non-severe storms around the place, hopefully before 5:30pm or after 8:30pm.

Some of the storms out west are rather nasty. 87km/h gusts at Cowra and 80km/h at Young. Awaiting a report from Goulburn Ap as well.

Nice storm building and just passing to the north of Warragamba Dam, should be in the Penrith area soon, a small black core in there so some hail likely out of that one.

That storm started near Oberon and drifted ESE. It is now entering the Sydney Basin. I had a good distant view of it from nearby earlier this afternoon.

A Severe Thunderstorm warning has been issued for a large area of East-Central NSW extending from about Mudgee to Canberra, inland past Parkes and almost to the coast from about Wyong to Ulladulla.

P.S. I see that OH nearly reached 32 this afternoon, with most of Sydney maxing at 31-32. At OH it was the first 30+ since mid Feb and could be the last of the season.

EDIT: detailed warning issued for Warragamba cell for for HEAVY RAINFALL, DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES. Heading ENE towards Bankstown, Parramatta

Maybe, though it'll probably fizz out a bit. I've actually never experienced wind from a storm that has been more than a usual 100km/h westerly that we get each year.

The cells west and south of me (& Davidm in Orange) look quite intense with some nasty looking core values.

Hopefully they will get here while my car is under cover smile and not after I go home from work.

Using Mark 1 eyeball on the cloud to my south - it sure is awfully cumulo arsenicum negrum.

Cell here is dumping some pretty heavy rain, knocking the neighbours trees around a bit. No hail as yet, but some chunky drops of rain.

Cooler southerly winds hitting.

Orange right under it now and another lining up out Forbes Parkes way may hit Orange too.

Full sun here until a few minutes ago but it looks menacing and dark to the West and South West, with booms and rumbles.

That storm is moving very fast, now well past Blacktown, over Parramatta, heading for Epping, Hornsby and the Northern beaches (veering left).

Close by flash bang. Steady light rain (big drops), constant rumbling, booming and rolling with the occasional flash.

Back home now. I was debating whether to go on a mini chase to a location with a good view of the horizon or get my car under cover. Saw the black core on the radar near Blacktown and chose the latter.

No hail here but there definitely would've been at the top of the escarpment.

Just torrential rain and heaps of wind. Fair bit of lightning but nothing heaps impressive. Can see blue sky to the west. Interestingly wind was strong SWly but now it's NEly.

Should be good Donzah, I doubt you will get hail.

Right WR, you'll have to update your signature again.

A detailed warning was issued fir the Illawarra storm.

That storm was a bit of a fizzer here, falling apart as it reached the North Shore. The Northern part held together and continued over the Northern beaches. It did well to hang together all the way from the Oberon-Jenolan area.

Looks like there could be more on the way, a second wave, going by the radar.

The Central Coast's turn next. The Doppler's indicating we could get some strong gusts. I've also noticed the edge of the storm is well defined - orange right up to the edge, so it'll hit hard.

Light shower here at the moment, no sparkage for me. Rain sounds nice though smile

I'm getting a Southerly change here just now. The storms will probably move North with it.

EDIT: while it's windy and cooler, I think that's just local circulation. There's a cell now moving to my South, about to hit the CBD. In fact wind obs are all over the place.

Olympic Park now up to 43 mm.

EDIT2: yes Jimi - my mistake.

EDIT3: raining again, rate picking up. Just had a loud boom.

massive donut! gap opened up in the squall line (the only one) and Im in it. Big cell went about 1k east. Have only had enough to wet the cement, maybe .5mm. Thats got to be pretty hard with a line of storms that looks like that. Could have guessed it...

It was indeed, looking NE. It's a great spot, I haven't been up there in a couple of years. Saw it with fog underneath walking back to the car after Uni and decided to take a drive up there.

I used to love riding the CPH rail motor up through the rat holes to Moss Vale smile

Sorry I haven't has a chance to report in today peoples. I had to go to Sydney to the specialist. Anyway, I thought you'd be interested to know, those storms that were out this way last night yielded 72mm in the official gauge at Mudgee Airport, however, at the Post Office gauge in town, they recorded 114mm!!! Amazing!!! I believe it too, because when I was driving back from Lithgow Station this afternoon, everything out along the flats from Burundulla Rd almost right into town was submerged!

This was the weak storm approaching from the NW, at this stage it was just south of Stroud. Very little in the way of lightning and thunder, from memory we got about 10mm.
IMG_0443 by Eddy Groot, on Flickr

This next pic is the same storm about an or so later and out to sea, to be honest I don't think I have seen such nice structure on the backend of a storm. This storm really exploded once it was offshore but didn't last too long out there.

Lightning to the east as well.

Great pics Eddy.

Re earlier discussion on the Unanderra to Moss Vale rail link last night and earlier today, that's still open for freight, but regular passanger services have been replaced with buses. There are tourist trips to Robertson hauled by heritage locomotives (3801 Ltd). That would be a nice day out. Haven't been along Macquarie Pass for a while, and I was driving and had to keep my eyes on the road.

And nice pic WR for yesterday, looking doen on the low cloud. The view from Mount Kiera (464m) and nearby places on the Illawarra escarpment is spectacular, so high and only about 5km from the sea as the crow flies.

-------

The storms are finished in Sydney. It's still warm (about 22), in fact it warmed up a little since the wind turned Southerly about an hour ago.

Yeah the Illawarra escarpment is very nice, I think I will head up to Mt Keira more often now after Uni. I forgot how nice it was and the Uni is just under the mountain.

Macq Pass is a nice drive, it's not everyone's cup of tea however. I know the road like the back of my hand though, down to basically every corner.

Nice pics Eddy.

The storm this afternoon at Stanhope Gardens was quite disappointing compared to Tuesday nights storm with heavy rain and extremely close lighting and thunder.
I first observed today's storm around 3pm when picking up the kids from school. The mainstorm was to the south of me at this stage with quite a lot of lightning visible. The wall cloud came right over us and at one point rotation was visable, low scud was firing out of the storm towards us.
Just as it was looking like we were going to get hammered the storm changed direction and went to the south of us over Blacktown. The best we got at Stanhope Gardens with the very edge was some strong winds and some moderate rain. The lightning and thunder was not close. If we coped the full brunt of this storm it would have topped Tuesday nights storm. All following cells missed us too.
Someone activated the storm shield over Stanhope Gardens today!

Geez Stormy & GR - you parted the storm front yesterday like we did. Same here, just a couple of mm yesterday arvo. Plenty nearby but not over me.

Keep the faith, it MUST rain for you surely with one of these changes. I feel for you because I know how long I've waited too and how that felt.

Causing some problems there - a school is isolated by floodwaters, RFS called to assist in evac.

Nice steady rain here atm, can hear those distant rumbles that have become almost static here over the past few days.

I think someone forgot to let the central west know that it's autumn, not spring poke

Yeah last night sucked Dave. Was keen for that quick time 50mm that could have paid easily out of that setup. Good that Eddy got something, though you never have to worry too much about port stephens area getting rain. Another chance at something this arvo. Really want to just get these dams sorted and then I can relax. All looks very wet at the moment, but with the potential of another Nino, want to be set for the end of the year. When the upper atmosphere is dynamic the weather is interesting and has potential, when the uppers stagnate, nothing happens down here. There might be a few more ECL opportunities yet this season if the cold pools keep up.

Yeah GringosRain, I rather see you get that quick fire 50mm than me, we have already had enough rain these past few weeks. Even though we got a storm, I would only rate it a 3/10.

Moderate rain for the past hour or so. Feels very odd that our local rain gauge only recorded 0.6mm.

Yeh, I've had steady rain since about 4 pm, and it was surprisingly heavy for a period.
A very dark drab afternoon. As Donzah said, it feels very autumn like.
Currently bang on 20 deg's and still raining.

It was looking like it was going to be an okay day. My mate was actually surprised it wasn't raining today (finally a friend that likes weather!!), but it started a couple of hours later and went on for hours, although very light stuff from the west. Boring.

I'm so over the rain, thank god we got that storm yesterday. Nice pics Donzah, I'm a bit envious of the ones at the lighthouse overlooking South Beach as I was going to go there to watch the storm. And best storm of the season huh? You mustn't have got that one on Feb 18th. I got 2-3cm hail that day.

Under 20C now. Positively chilly. The warmth with so much humidity can bugger off since it has well and truly overstayed its welcome. Dry heat (or cold) is most welcome though. Dry and 5C or dry and 45C, I don't care as long as its not sapping humidity.

It was a mainly dry day today with the temp reaching 24c, southerly change this morning was rather weak. just had a shower go through about an hour ago dropping a quick 2.0mm.

Here is a pano from yesterday's storm.
This shelf cloud was moving in the opposite direction to the main core of the storm, core of the storm is above Tomaree Headland, econd peak left hand side of pic.

Great shelf cloud Eddy.

That's a strange landscaoe. It looks like a desert but I suppose it's a wetland. I think I recognise the Port Stephens headlands.

I see that DaveM is getting a bit of rain.

After a mostly cloudy morning, it's been raining here since about 4:00PM, varying from drizzle to "heavy enough to break out the umbrella". It's probably added a to about 7 or 8 mm.

Yeah nice capture Eddy, I can't quite work out where it's taken from, certainly a place I've never been. I'm guess it's between Karuah and your place, maybe near Pindimar I suppose.

Bit of rain from the west, not much but it's moving over. Funny how we get rain from the west but Bathurst etc doesn't get it from the east. Probably to do with cloud bases since this would likely be mid level precip rather than low level which always occurs from the east.

Thanks guys, the pic was taken on the south side of Tea Gardens obviously looking towards the bay, between the Port and the town is a fairly large area of wetlands, mangroves & reeds.

15.5mm in overnight rain, starting to get a little over it, this wet period!!

Well that's unusual - a sunny morning.

Sydney Airport is tracking at about 4 hours sunshine per day for the month so far, about 33% of the possible total*. I'm actually surprised it's that high, although the North Shore has probably been cloudier.

One feature has been that when the sun does make an appearance, it's normally been afternoon, with maybe a few sunny breaks in the morning.

I see that the rain must have continued into the night, with another 5 mm after midnight.

Anyway, looking forward to some sunny days ahead - they'll return eventually. In the meantime, some deciduous trees are starting to turn. On some, like those near Centennial Park, leaves are just shrivelling and turning brown, but others are showing flecks of proper Autumn colours.

(* Similar to Edinburgh's annual average)

Hello all - Yes Steve, another 5 or 6mm overnight of gentle rain. Gee it was nice to hear.

Mostly sunny this morning, looking for a top of around 22 degrees, pleasant breeze - lovely.

This rain over the last week has been so appreciated out here. It's setting up farmers & graziers nicely for Autumn and then a good leg up for winter. smile

Great photos Eddy & Donza grin

Was mostly sunny earlier and very pleasantly crisp in the wind. Headed to the beach and went for a walk and took a few photos while there was some sunshine. Unfortunately it's beginning to cloud over. It's one of those common days where the cloud will keep building until it's fully cloudy and/or raining.

150mm has fallen here this month. Nothing to the 507mm at Katoomba, only 50km away as the crow flies. Even so, as DaveM mentioned, this is a marvellous autumn break; and such a contrast to the terrible dry at this time last year. The poor BoMís rainfall outlook for March is looking like my stock market picks - completely wrong.

Another round of rain is likely here on Saturday before a burst of very warm weather early next week.

Another coastal shower. Spun the wheel and took a chance to use the clothesline (a novelty of late). And a sneaky shower wets everything. This weather is giving me a serious case of the poops. I am with WR. Give me cold or hot and dry. This humid wet crap has gotta go

Well that sunny morning didn't last long. It closed in from late morning, with some moderate showers around lunch time. Since then it's been cloudy with the occasional light shower. Well, I suppose this Southerly has to generate enough cloud to block out the sun until that cloud band West of us makes it over here and/or the next trough can get going.

You guys want warm weather? - come out here for some sunshine - 28's, 29's & a 30 in my forecast from Sunday for the next 3 or 4 days.

Yes Rob very warm few days for this time of year. Given the solid intrusion of cooler air from later next week - finally it should be our last high 20's days.

Hopefully temps will then re-set to the 20 to 25 degree mark for here before starting to slide a little lower over following weeks. smile

Book me in Dave, for dry weather! I agree Eddy, a last blast of heat would be nice but it's late March so I don't think we will get any proper heat now.

And yeah Knot those showers were sneaky. I got three of them coming home from Uni- just random showers that stopped after 30 secs.

Only the half a ml in the 24hrs to 9am.

Was a nice morning on the beach until a bit of cloud developed in the afternoon, but it did remain fine.

Wouldn't be surprised if there is a spark or two offshore this evening, some nice chunky looking clouds out there!!

Certainly very warm and humid today, no rain so far, and only 0.6mm in previous 24 hours.
Rainfall has been continuous this month, if not spectacular, about 147mm at Maitland Airport and about 190mm at Belmore Bridge in central Maitland - which would be a slightly closer station to here. (as the crow flies)
I dare say we will probably get over 200mm down there at Belmore Bridge for the month, if a few more showers arrive later in the week as expected on the forecast.

At Sydney Airport, today is the third sunny day this month, defining "sunny" as being over 75% of posible sunshine, about 9 hours at this time of year. We've also had:

11 cloudy days (under 25% / 3 hours). Funny, it seems like more.
The remaining 12 days were partly cloudy (3-9 hours).

Overall average sunshine for March to date will be about 4.2 hours after today, about 35%, well under the March average of 6.9.
--------

Warm, mostly clear blue sky, a light sea breeze and about 26 here.

EDUT1: LRH: you got in first.

EDIT2: interesting to note that all Sydney's sunny days in March so far have been in the weekend.

It's probably been cloudier at your place. So while Sydney Ap has been partly cloudy (perhaps only just, like 4hr of sun) you may have had less than 3hrs.

I reckon we've been even cloudier down here, where do I find stats for this stuff, Steve?

Finally a really pleasant day!!

WR - I'd say it has been cloudier in the Illawarra and North Shore. It's ofteb cloudy here when the sun is shining in the Eastern suburbs.

The data on sunshine is available online (monthly observations and long term averages) for a only few places, including Sydney Airport. Solar exposure is more widely available.

It certainly was nice to wake up to a rain free day, although at times during the mid morning some clouds certainly did threaten to bring rain but by midday all clouds burned of to a stunning afternoon.

A few days like today would be nice!!

A warm run coming up for the next few days. 29's to 31 today till Wednesday. could be damp out here again Thursday (which won't worry most out here - nice follow up rain will be good.

Then we finally get temps dropping off over the weekend smile
