A front/trough moving through NSW will bring rain mainly to the coast and ranges. The rain should start developing late tomorrow, persist through the 30th (heavy falls are possible in the afternoon and evening), and then ease to lighter showers sometime during the early hours of the 31st. There is the possibility that the rain may also be accompanied by some thunderstorm activity.

It would appear some (or most depending on where you are) of this activity will be contributed by EX-TC Debbie, as she moves south and the trough absorbs the moisture from the system.

Hoping for a drop out here from it - might not be much though. The impact reduces quickly as distance from the coast is greater.

I am hesitant about any significant rainfall anywhere south west of a line Newcastle to Walgett.

I think Sydney / Illawarra especially will be sitting on the edge with maybe only 10 to 20mm out of this.

Not that we need any more anyway. The grass here is growing 4-6ins a week.

Yes Michael - I suspect my area will be line ball, could go either way. Cloud build up today is interesting and gives me hope that it may increase by tomorrow.

Interaction with cooler air from the south might possibly add a bit of a trigger mechanism - depends on timing etc.

Small cell already creeping into the basin.
Not wrong ozthunder about having enough precip already.
The ground is still pretty damp around here to.

Looks like the front might hit Sydney Metro before 9am
The front hitting all last nights warm Sydney air is going to be interesting.

A very active line went through to my west and south west last night - plenty of lightning pulses. Nothing here though, looked nice in the night sky.

A very solid tramline of precip staying just north & east of me.

Hoping we get at least 5 to 10mm today, something, would be a nice little follow up. However it may not push down to us.

The approaching SW change looks to be looming.

It certainly feels humid - 97% so it should feel that way smile

Around 8 degrees tomorrow morning - sounds quite pleasant grin

I will be heading to The Entrance tomorrow morning - just in time to miss my first good run of nice cool nights. smile

I've been getting light rain on and off for the past hour or so. It was a very warm, uncomfortable night. Looks like the fake rain at OH has been supplemented with some of the real stuff too.

It's hard to tell where the chage is. Winds are Southerly from Bellambi Southwards, but places like Bellambi and Kiama are still warm. Best guess is it passed through Point Perpendicular between 7:30 and 8:00 with about a 3 degree drop.

Morning all, coming down in 10 ton truck loads here at Cooks Gap this morning. The first chance that I can get outside I'll have a look at how much is in the gauge. We're having the occasional rumble as well. All in all a nice morning smile

Barely a drop here. It would have been nice to have had some moisture replenishment to compensate for the dry and warmth of the last few days. This system's focus has on each forecast run retreated further to the NE. As we are near the SW edge of the cloud mass, Meteye's forecast of 20mm is looking increasingly like a dream.

I am watching this long heavy rain area to my SW stretching down from the NW to Sydney,it all looks to be moving very slowly to the NE,it will run into the big rain blob from up north then the action should start.we need it here not like a lot of other places, who have had to much rain.

Agree with Rob - I suspect we will be zero precip or very low.

Surface winds SW here now so I wouldn't expect much precip from that set up.

It's so close that I can see it but it's not here. smile

Newy radar looking better and better by each frame. Just a couple of mls here so far, and with a bit of luck I could possibly crack the 300mm for the month.

25 degrees, muggy and perfectly still all morning.

The rain has just started and its a moderate shower. Considering we are only under light blue on the radar, the stuff to come is going to be very solid indeed. Would love that fast 50-75mm I have been chasing. Will make a good difference now. Want these dams charged asap.

Sorry to see it just skimmed you out Bathurst way Dave....so close.

Hectic drive to Sydney this morning. That southerly has kicked up some decent fog along the M1. Coupled with a rain train from the NW. It was......interesting.

Yeah M1 is treacherous in poor conditions. Will avoid that drive where possible if there is weather about.

As stormy says fairly garden variety rain. all helpful, but Im really wanting some of that norah head action. Hammering there. Only a few mm here so far.

Had 40mm in less than an hour here. No thunder or lightning. Was driving at the time between Gosford and Wyong on the M1 and visibility was practically zero at one stage. Most traffic slowed to a crawl except for the usual idiots.
The clouds had a strange heavy ominous look about them before and after. A bit different looking than the rain bands we had recently.

Didn't realise a seperate thread for this. Started to get some rain around 1pm here which got heavier. Cloud is thinning and rain tapering off.

The bom's april/may outlook is not worth the paper its written on. I no longer see Bom as having any credibility after March. Its up to citizen weather watchers now in my view to get things right.

Hosing down here again. Well over 200mm for March now.

Just checked and Springwood has had over 400mm this month! A long way off the March record (719mm, also the record for any month) but it sure has been mighty wet!

I hear you stormy.....and.....the fog is turning to rain and both the rain and wind is picking pace in the last 15 minutes or so. Might squeeze 50mm out of it yet......

P.S. Looks like a big flood going to hit the tweed. Didnt realise the figures in the catchment were that high already...and still falling. wow

Newy radar looks to be backing off somewhat?

Anyway still light steady rain falling, not amounting to much about 8.0mm so far. No wind whatsoever today, southerly shouldn't be to far away though.

I posted in day to day thread that I thought this change was tame. I thought it was gonna be limp and not much in it..But I have to say it has ramped up nicely now into something that you can get your teeth into.

Goodness me it is cold this afternoon at 15-16C, absolutely bitterly cold walking back to the car with rain and wind!! RIP Summer 2017, bye bye, it's winter now.

Never expected such cold here but Melbourne was only in the low teens with rain yesterday afternoon.

Have a taste of our used air Wave Rider, hehe.
Well yesterday was a shock to the system in Melbourne, 27C around 5PM and by 7:30PM the temperature plummeted down to 16C eek

I'm not complaining with this March, in Melbourne it has been absolutely gorgeous the true definition of a warm Indian Summer.

Looks like the warm and sunny conditions return next week down here, you poor fellas look to have no reprieve from the damp wet conditions.

The wind is picking up here, but from the SW, I was hoping it would be a SE'er to bring some heavier rain in off the coast.

64mm and counting here today. Looks like more steady rain for a couple more hours yet. Lismore and Northern NSW have copped it worse though with 250mm, rescues, and forced evacuations!

It's been steady light rain since around 8:00AM with some heavier periods. It cooled off in the afternoon, it's now 15-17 across Sydney. Nearby Chatswood has had 35mm since 9:00, OH 26. OH is now on 310mm for March and counting. So that's all of March, April and most of May's rainfall. Please, can we have no more rain until May 15?

While it's not particularly cold, it feels it. Sydney OH dipped to 16.7 earlier this evening. It hasn't been cooler since Nov 25.

Its really chucking it down now and looks like the southerly has finally arrived, not overly strong as yet.

I keep looking at the forecast to see if it gets better but it doesn't. Eternal scumtherly winds and low 20's. Suicidal weather.

PS: Yes Weather Viewer you had a brilliant March, thanks for stealing all our heat.. Though yesterday was hot.

Wore the snow jacket around to pick the kids up from school disco. Bracing rain , cold, and windy as. Fantastic. Felt sorry for the SUV crew stuck in a 500 metre traffic jam trying to pick little johnny up.

I'm hoping to get towards the end of May before I start thinking about putting jumpers on!!

Wow how quick things have changed here, winds are howling, guesstimate around the 80k mark.

Not wrong there Donzah!!

I have no doubt winds are gusting towards the 100k mark here, rain has eased somewhat.

This is kinda off topic again. However interesting.

My greatest recollection (historical) of a front interacting with a ex TC is this
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TEV_Wahine

for weather geeks...have a good read of the conditions.
Then look at the lattitude.

rain band has nearly moved off shore now unless it comes back on shore,if the ex cyclone up north moves south down the coast, there is a light westerly blowing here at the moment, it has a cold bit in it too

Hit the target. 32mm overnight with 19mm yesterday.....so got to the 50mm. Bit by bit we are getting there. Amazing how much rain we have had and we still need more for the storages. The ground was just so dry it soaked up the first 150mm this month no problem.

Good stuff GR.

Some really short and heavy showers in the early hours this morning, total to 9am is 42.5mm. That total brought up the 300mm for the month of March, wettest March since 2001 when over 400mm fell.

Today is bloody cold too!!
