This marine inversion layer over the last couple of days around Sydney, the Illawara extending inland as far as the Blue Mountains and Taralga/Goulburn was very interesting. It didnít seem to be predicted by the BOM. Is it due to warm and humid air from the north being chilled over the Tasman Sea and failing to mix with warmer upper air?

I loved your photos WR - gorgeous coastal scenery. Does that lighthouse actually lean or is it an optical illusion?

Meteye has backed off slightly on the rain forecast here tomorrow. Now 20 to 30mm compared to 20 to 35mm yesterday. But weíre still looking at temps in the low to mid teens until at least next Tuesday. First fire and first frost canít be too far away. Also looking forward to the end of daylight saving this weekend Ė itís quite dark now at 7am.

Did OH really get 1.6mm between 10:30 and 11:00 out of the last of the matine layer? Or another 0.2 mm out of a clear sky between 12:30 and 12:00. Very odd, especially when that dank marine layer produced no measurable rain in the 24 hours to 9:00. There seemed to be nothing on the radar.

I think someone needs to check the operation of the rain guage.

Not sure of how much of this frigging heat I can stand. My insides are longing for a cool down. The warm nights are just a pain at this stage. Someone let the sun know its focus is now north of the equator. Had enough. Do you know how this March is going to stack up Steve as far as temps go?

I think it's just an optical illusion because it is on the hill, but maybe it does lean? In the location of the 2nd photo the lighthouse was just to the left and leaning towards the photo.

Knot, re March temps, OH looks like finishing close to 20.1 - 25.4, for anomalies of +2 / 0 (1981-2010). No days or nights were particularly hot or cool. I expect that this would be typical of coastal NSW South of about Port Macquarie.

We look likely to finish with over 300mm of rain, over 250% of the average, with sunshine hours at about 4.3 only about 62% of the average and 36% of the possible total.

It's been a warm, wet, cloudy, humid month.

It's about 30C on the stations around my area and my little thermometer is reading right on 30.0C and there's still a light northerly. Dearly hoping for the warm NWer to mix down and produce 35C temperatures with Moss Vale at 28C. This is our last chance at some decent warmth.

We've been up near 31 but currently closer to 30.

A friend in Orange says they are getting some stronger cloud build up at the moment.

I have to admit, I do really like this type of autumn warmth. Sparkling days, the light is a little less intense, the heat is just right and not killer, breeze is pleasant.

Dont like 45 degree days, but low 30 days in autumn I will take especially if there has been some rain.

Id love March/April weather all year round, good balance of everything.
I will be enjoying the last of it, because there will be nothing extreme heatwise now.....and we have a bit more rain tomorrow, all perfect in my book.

Nope. Can see Obs Hill from my office. Been clear all morning. Am now wondering if someone at the BoM will correct it. Experience tells me probably not.

Currently 35C at Richmond, 30C at Penrith. Weird. They're usually neck and neck

That is interesting, must be a wind change there or something going on!
Still about 4C difference.
Normally Penrith does get the highest reading in the Sydney Metro, just like Singleton is normally the hottest in the Hunter, although was just pipped during the Feb heatwave this year. (and 2nd hottest temp ever recorded in the Sydney Basin)

Sounds like an interesting day tomorrow with the interaction of Debbie and the approaching cold front.
So tomorrow, "Debbie Does the NSW Coast". Probably her biggest episode yet.
WR, you were correct about the warm air mixing down today.
I was at Woolwich, and most of the am hours had a mild moderate NE sea breeze.
I sat down for lunch, and immediately afterwards, it was a much warmer northerly, and very muggy.
The difference in half an hour was stark.
And the difference between Woolwich and Dural when I arrived home was a real shock. The local school temp gauge on their sign said 34 degrees at 4.30 pm and I believe it, although it felt nothing like that at Woolwich. It's still 29 here now. And very uncomfortable.
The air-con is pumping.

Steve........I'm sure we all know but that precip at OH did not fall. The frustrating thing is if it will ever be rectified and deleted from the records.

Anyway, tomorrow sounds like a weather nuts dream. Strong winds. Heavy rain possible. Chance of storms. Cooler temps after all that. Lucky I've got inside work at the moment.

Aye was a dirty day when that cloud burnt off.
Was on the tools in the hot sun. Just gross.
EC moves the change and rain through the Illawarra at 5am.
Will be interesting.

I sent the following message to the BOM via their feedback page:

"According to the 'Latest Weather Observations for Sydney - Observatory Hill' page, on today March 29, Observatory Hill had 1.6 millimetres of rain between 10:40 and 11:00AM and a further 0.2mm between 12:00 and 12:10PM. This does not look right. The sky was mostly clear at these times. Is the rain guage malfunctioning?"

I'll post any answer I get here.

--------

It did get quite hot and muggy this afternoon. The car thermometer peaked at 34 degrees in Lane Cove West around 3:00PM. That seems a bit warm, but Olympic Park and suburbs in the middle ring did reach 32-33.

Today might have been the last hot Summer day for the season. The cicadas came out today, but they'll soon be gone. Daylight saving ends Saturday. After a very warm night, we get yet more rain tomorrow and then it's looking distinctly Autumnal for a while, with winds in the SE quarter indefinitely according to Weather.com: Sydney 10-15 Day forecast

We had a brief shower here around 6pm. It didn't make sense, the sky didn't really suggest there was anything like it around except for this one cloud

I thought I heard rain about 6:00PM in Artarmon - bigger drops. The balcony door was open, I looked out and didn't see rain but I was too lazy to get off the lounge for a closer look. I just assumed it was wind. I went out shortly after, there was no sign of recent rain, clear sky, dry roads. If it was rain it might not have been enough to register.

Sure is humid out there, DP's of 25 or over at Terrey hills and Penrith. That would be the highest DP i've seen this late in the season for the metro at least, perhaps we're being April fooled a bit early laugh
