Still only light rain out here.

Amazing how coastal some of these falls were. Around 5pm it was torrential again at Shellharbour, but could see broken cloud westwards. Mate at work got 40mm in the gauge.

Wow that is a lot of rain but I would not doubt that. Just before sunset we had torrential rain but then it cleared to reveal a nice sunset. Today a PWS near me has had 4.8mm but Albion Park has only 1.8mm and Bellambi even less.

PS: It's great to have three members from the Illawarra and we are spread out too.

It was a surprisingky sunny morning here after early cloud. It felt quite muggy. About an hour ago there were some interesting convective clouds about.

It's closing in now and has turned cooler. The radar shows some heavy showers about.

We had thunder, lightning and heavy rain about 9.30 last night and some very heavy downpours just before sunrise. The ground is absolutely soaked from all the rain the last couple of weeks. Even though the sun has been out most of the day there is still water flowing out of my lawn and down the footpath.

I was about to step outside for some fresh air. And guess what. It started showering again. So it looks like boms prediction of dryness for April is off to a great start. I am just sick of digging in mud at the moment. Dont get me wrong. I dont mind rain per se. But its a pain when your lively hood involves digging in the ground.

So March was Sydney's wettest one in 42 years and now the wettest start to April in four decades.

How dare we have a hot, dry and awesome summer says mother nature. Autumn is usually wet but this is getting ridiculous. But there was lots of clear sky driving out to Thirlmere late this afternoon, quite pleasant and crisp too. The little reprieves of warmer weather and sunshine are certainly helping me to put with the current conditions. It's comforting to know that this rainy southerly pattern will eventually come to an end. Maybe in a week, two months, who knows? But the longer I have to wait, the more I will enjoy sunshine and westerly winds when it finally happens. Can't believe I wishing for rain less than two months ago.

Oh dear, sunny again out here WR - will have to keep my hat on outside to stop the sun burn again grin

I must admit the rapid change from hot to cool has me struggling a bit at times (yes you read correctly) grin A bit more staged cool down would have been nicer smile

Won't take long to adjust though. 2 weeks ago we had fans going flat out and here I am now, thinking about putting a heater on at night grin

As a point of interest (well for me anyhow) smile

Last week, long term GFS was pointing to a half decent cold change around Easter - then it disappeared from the models.

Well, it's back in there again. Will be interesting to see whether it stays in or not. If it stayed in there as it is today - a little snow on the snowies would be quite possible. It would cool things down again or at least keep warmer temps from coming back inland especially.

At the very least it would help propel us towards our first frost in it's wake.

Access has a sort of similar but not the same set up, keep an eye there for when Easter really comes into that model.

I have half a suspicion that it might be a reasonably solid cool change. Time will tell, it may dissipate completely instead smile

Family had the fire going at Thirlmere last night and it was lovely. Here in Bowral today and the weather is actually okay with partly cloudy skies and a chilly breeze. I daresay it's probably SUNNY at home like Bathurst with 22C and 56% humidity.

I must say, I'm actually adjusting rather quickly to the cooler weather. 20C no longer feels cold and feels quite normal now. Btw got down to 5C at Moss Vale this morning, almost a frost!! smile

I reckon easter's cold change is a 5% possibility at the moment.
Look how much variation there is in the models

You and your spag grin

Yep not confident either (it's been in and out & in again with GFS already) but interested to see it as a possible even if unlikely smile

Looks like a mad woman's knitting as my dad would say. smile

The area west of Sth America looks more promising at that time smile

Yeah my brain works like the spag... I'm one big ensemble model.
I don't trust models over seasonal speedhumps. They need a shakedown after all this high lattitude wetness.
What is interesting is EC Ensembles do have something around (ish) those dates... so I agree "something" will happen. The LWT is also a weakish 4 node. Its not unheard of to amplify late april. If the ridge over Australia is weakish (mid lattitude troughs) we can get a decent polar front.

I suspect that the period of Easter and the following week may have a cold change in that period to cool things off a bit more.

Somewhere in there, I reckon a lost flake or 2 might briefly hit the higher peaks in the Snowies. I reckon the nights of that week might well cool noticeably - particularly inland.

Here we look at Anzac Day as a time for our first frost, I reckon it's in the mix again this year. A rapid turnaround in night temps from just a week ago when we had runs of nights running about 6 to 8 degrees above average. From regular mid to high "teens" to first frost (or thereabouts) in about 3 weeks. smile

Good old April and the equinox smile

And I actually have always paid attention to your thoughts on the spag in the ski forum grin

THIS WEEKEND - a very slight chance of brief sleet late Sunday night on our highest peaks - IF GFS is to be near the mark smile
