Before the interwebs were alive. So 90's to 2000 . I can recall a bunch of early season snowfalls. Some stuck around. Some were just a bit early.
94 and 95 and 2000 spring to mind.

Oh what i'd give for a 1981.

In the meantime it's looking pretty warm for the next week, certainly to the point of being a little unseasonal for this time of year, but with lots of possible showers in the forecast. The last couple of days though, have been completely normal and April-like.

I think thats pretty much April. Yo Yo weather.
It really depends which direction the wind comes from at which time.

I hate a see sawing heat jive. A nice straight decline would suit me fine. But enough of this rain.

That's very true, but one thing that seems to be consistent is cloud and possible showers in April, whether it's hot or cold. Hopefully, as usual, May will be nice and sunny most of the time.

Today has been fairly pleasant so far, with a mostly sunny morning but cloud slowly building to about 6/8 atm. Yesterday was similarly partly cloudy in the morning but the Southern Highlands had very fine drizzle and full cloud cover.

Hopefully its calm and mellow and sunny on May 6/7 for Wings over Illawarra.
Last year was pretty much perfect.
Two previous years.
Not so much.

Loc: Melbourne (Belgrave); Corryong...
Hey g'day gang! Reporting from Corryong, Northeast Victoria. smile

My family and I left our home in Belgrave a little before 2pm yesterday, but because we had to do some things to buy at Bayswater, it took about an hour to reach Lilydale and to leave the Melbourne metropolitan area.

We faced heavy traffic going north up the Melba Highway until our next stop in Yea at about 3:30pm. Most of the traffic thankfully turned east towards Lake Eildon, leaving us with a good run northwest along the Goulburn Valley Highway to Seymour, where we did yet more shopping lol.

Just after 4:30pm, we headed northbound up the M31 Hume Freeway (Melbourne-Sydney).

Around 5:30pm, we had afternoon tea at the Mokoan Rest Area in Winton, near Benalla.

Roughly 45 minutes later we did some final shopping in Wangaratta, and by around 7:15pm we arrived at the Border (Albury/Wodonga). It was nice being able to cross the Murray River into NSW/ACT again, even if it was only for about 5-10 minutes. smile

Following dinner, we continued east along the Murray Valley Highway. By 9:30pm we made it safely into Corryong.

Weatherwise, yesterday was nothing other than perfect! Mid-autumn at its finest. grin

Light winds and plenty of mostly clear blue skies with warm sunshine, although there were a few sporadic cumulus as far north as Yea, and a bit of high cirrus sailing across the northern horizon. Also some bubbly cumulus beyond Mount Buffalo, but no shower/storm activity on radar. The night stayed mostly clear as well, with plenty of stars and a bright near-full moon! smile

Virtually the whole way from home until sunset (6pmish) at Winton, temperatures were around 22-24C. The lone exception was at Castella (near Kinglake and Toolangi), where the elevation caused the temperature to drop a few notches to 21C.

It stayed around 20C as far as Wangaratta, but the mercury started to drop as it got darker and we headed northeast. It was around 17-18C in Albury/Wodonga.

Leaving the Border just after 8pm, the temperature continued falling. At Tallangatta it was about 13-14C, and at Bullioh it was 11-!2C.

Up at Shelley, it was a chilly 9C. Initially the temperature started climbing as we drove downhill, but after hitting 11C it abruptly dropped back to 9C in the Berringama/Beetoomba/Lucyvale area! eek crazy

From Cudgewa up until Corryong the temperature rose back to 11C.

The only major deterrent was the usual autumnal burn-offs and the associated smoke haze. During the drive north from Melbourne through the Yarra Valley, we noted smoke billowing from a control burn in the Noojee region to the southeast.

Once out on the Hume beyond Seymour, the whole northern horizon was a dirty brown haze from numerous blazes scattered across the Northern Plains (a couple of which were burning quite close by near Euroa and Benalla) and into the Riverina region of Southern NSW. A few of the fires featured pyrocumulus btw. Thank goodness the smoke largely stayed well clear of us, otherwise I'd probably have major sinus problems! frown

On the plus side, the smoke served to provide a beautiful sunset at Winton! Here's a smartphone pic I snapped at the Lake Mokoan Rest Area! smile

https://www.instagram.com/p/BS0lDtXhVTY/

Immediately after leaving the rest area at sunset, a fine mist began to form as we headed towards Glenrowan and Wangaratta.

And here was patchy fog in Berringama!

Still mostly dry vegetation, although the recent heavy rainfall has turned some paddocks green around Yea and Seymour. smile

Lastly, there was an abundance of autumn colours on the way here! Hopefully there's lots more autumn colours here in town and in the surrounding area. smile

Reached a maximum of 27.8C on my weather station back home in Belgrave just before we left for Corryong, although I doubt it was actually that warm lol.

Currently around 9C here in the Upper Murray.

Tomorrow I'll get the BOM observations for yesterday's road trip. smile

Excellent report as usual ASF.

Have fun fishing Eddy, I'll be sleeping most the day instead.

Yeah wings over Illawarra is cool. Makes for a very noisy day in my area as they can easily be heard from here when they are flying.

Will do!! Sleeping all day on this fine Friday? But then again looking at what time you posted this morning, it clear you weren't getting ready for the day?? grin

5.2mm overnight, clouds drifting further out to sea, should be a spectacular day on the water.

Yeah I had no plans today Eddy!! grin Was a bit depressing waking up at 1:30 knowing that I'd missed most of such a lovely day. Did you catch any dinner?

In fact it was an absolutely perfect afternoon with light SEly winds. Cooling down quickly now, I think it will be another cool night. The weather is way too pleasant to be Easter.

Cheers WV! smile

Today was absolutely glorious across the Upper Murray! It dawned nippy and misty, but the mist cleared soon after the sun rose beyond the NSW Snowy Mountains. By 11am it warmed up very quickly, and the afternoon was perfect for being outside. Winds were generally light although there was a coolish, gusty breeze at times, and the sun felt kinda hot for a while! Hardly a cloud in the sky, and very little smoke haze. smile

It dipped to 4.2C here in Corryong, and 4.7C out at Khancoban. Not sure the exact high, but according to my Weatherzone smartphone app it reached around 23C this arvo. smile

Some nice autumn colours around town atm, although there are plenty of trees that are still green lol. poke

Currently around 15C. Another cold night ahead but more warm sunshine tomorrow, and again on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday! smile
