Awesome lightning! Clear Forky bolts of goodness.

Lots of sirens down this way hope no fires or people hit.

a smidgen of water in the guage which can only be described
as a trace.
disappointing for here but not surprising.
see if anything comes from the wraparound as the low passes.
news is reporting the orana pallet factory fire has been put down
to a lightning strike.

Just In: Lightning blamed for Para Hills West factory fire

Pretty sure I got the bolt in question on my iPad in slo-mo. Out of focus but was a big one. Thunder delay matches up with distance and bearing is exact.

Well, that was the best lightning and whipcracking thunder I have heard in a long time as for the first time since I have been living here, a cell passed just to the north of the house.

Missed the first couple of bolts as I was trying to shut my computer down as it was in the middle of doing an update(grrr).

I went outside under the carport just in time to see a triple pronged bolt quite close to the NNE followed in 1-2 seconds by a crashing clap of thunder.

A minute later, the hairiest, branchiest bolt I have seen for a long time lit up most of the sky to our north followed by a loud clap of thunder.

This was followed by another flash which must emanated from a bolt either overhead or to the SW of the house.

To finish off, I then saw a single bolt to the east partially hidden by the roof of the house just as a few hailstones started to ping on the carport roof. The neighbour rushed out of his house to put his car under cover!

It then began to rain large drops and produced 2.8mm in the gauge.

Very happy with the show. I think Paul Schilling & Chris#3 witnessed this short sharp show as well!!

Well that's it. Have held off from washing the car for this month but this dearth of precipitation leaves me no choice. A paltry 0.3mm for the last 24 hours and 2.1 MTD leaves me no choice. The Xtrail is getting a wash, dry and polish today in my own personal form of rain dance crazy smirk

Thunderstorms were in the forecast for last night. "A chance of a thunderstorm later tonight"

Anyway, at home, we took a direct hit of a developing core, had two separate hail showers with it, the 2nd one was just hail no rain.

Snapped a few bolts with a dash to get the camera which I'll get up shortly.

Right a few from last night:
They are a tad blurry as it was hard keeping the camera protected while being exposed to 30kt NE winds from behind.

Yeah I'm sure I saw the same bolt. It was exceptionally hairy smile she was a beauty.

Saw the first flash outside while watching TV
('wtf?! was that just lightning?')
GF: 'NO.... You need to stop with the thunderstorm hallucinations'
('yeah probably right...')

Plenty of lightning on EP now as well. Now if it would only do likewise here just across the gulf. Plenty of cloud here and some cells look promising smile
