May as well start talking about the dry season which pretty much started after TC Debbie's dregs went through here. Just 4.0mm for April so far after 351mm last month.

Yay. I am not alone. I thought CQ had evacuated. grin

Don't you mean the continuing dry season? One rain event for an entire summer does not a drought break. I had been so hopeful after the deluge we got but since then nothing.

We did have rain about a week ago. I could hear it on the roof but it was so fine that you couldn't see it. Only reason you could hear it was the wind that was pushing it.

I am waiting for it to be a bit cooler before I take the chainsaw to the dead tree bits.

Yeah could have statted the dry season thread a month ago. I'll get more dew in the gauge next month than the rain I received this month.

It is raining. Maybe the weather gods read my whine? Not expecting a lot but something is better than nothing.

If you put up a dew fence you'll get enough for a row or radishes at the very least.

That is because the cyclone was an anomalous event.

I still believe we have been in a dry type situation for several years now. It has only been a few anomalous events that get us through.

I was going to put up a bee hive for some honey dews.

That cold air has pushed through Bundy overnight. Should be quite brisk once the sun sets tonight.

I just hope this series of dry years breaks soon. We did not get even one storm in the season. Just the very edge of a couple. Without those and the occasional bit of rain we did get we would be buying water regularly.

Many people down here were buying it in often. I might look at putting in an extra tank yet but without rainfall to fill it........... I already have 3 for the house and we are careful with water usage.

13 deg now feels like 8 deg.

Shame the wintery temps are short lived going into May with night temps of 20/21 frown

Far too warm at night for May. So far every day and night has been above average.

Wind feels cool though.

A mere 3 mm in my gauge. One of those weird days when Rocky was cooler than the coast.

Nice to have some more average nights. Getting to about 16deg now.

A lovely 27mm from this event. A cutoff low and trough are what is forecast to bring rain and storms late next week. Exact positioning of that cut off low will determine how much rain we get.

Even with the horses gone I don't have a lot of grass. I do however have some very healthy roos and lots of them.

It is amazing how much grass they eat. In the side yard I have left my chicken cage. The grass in it is a good 6 inches long. All the rest of the yard there is mown right down.

Really humid down on the beach this afternoon, yeah only 23 deg but you could feel the moisture. Wasn't sweaty but the air felt heavy.

Keppel Kraken closed for nearly all of May due to as the sign puts it "upgrades" . Looks like cracks in the concrete being repaired.

0.6 deg above average day temps so far

3 deg above for nights.

Hope we see some colder nights soon.

Last winter was so mild we had a few days we had fans going . I remember one strange day last year it was so humid in the morning we got some showers and then in the afternoon we got a SW change and it was cold.

And this

https://www.themorningbulletin.com.au/news/bom-radar-reveals-400mm-deluge-for-rocky/3178218/?ref=hs

Radar images show a large swathe of Central Queensland is expecting 150mm in rain over the next four days, but that dramatically rises to more than 400mm in the next eight days, coinciding with the arrival of a huge upper-trough on Thursday.he images show Rockhampton and surrounding areas are expected to cop the heaviest falls as the entire state braces for the biggest rainfall event since ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie.

Since when has Mackay been in Central Qld?

All the models I have seen show CQ will not get that much, it will be mostly north of the CQ area.

Yep. Hubby got all excited by the news we were going to be drenched. 15ml isn't quite what he was hoping for though.

I can always live in hope that we get more.

The most I have seen is about 50ml for rocky and south so I think it is the Bully that can't read maps or the fact that journalists and articles are shared round the news syndicate.

It is a lovely sunny rather warm day here today. Good time for me to be getting jobs done.

BOM Yeppoon forecast has 20-40mm on Thursday and 35-70mm on Friday.

Just mowed the lawns today. Although not extremely long there was growth and they still are growing . Was expecting them to have slowed down but with the 3 things needed for growth (humidity, warmth and rain ) still there it has kept it growing.

Just after I finish the lawnmower throttle lever broke lol. Oh well.

A lot of people out mowing today. Thought i'd get it done rather than have to wait for the rain to end.

I guess it is rain here in Yeppoon as it is constant but not very heavy, kind of reminds me when it rains in the southern states. At least it will soak in.

35mm for me , Bundaberg Alert had 109mm, most last night between 6.00pm and midnight. Bundy looked like it would miss out on most of it as it went around us for much of the day. The airport had around 56mm so a very timely soaking after a dry April.

Is it normal to have SE winds almost every day of the month? Whenever I check weatherzone the wind direction for what seems like forever is SE for Yeppoon.

23 deg here but sort of cool humid.

Looking forward, atleast a week of boring weather ahead. 18 - 27c
Usually we would have had one night under 10c in May, it doesn't look likely.

Around 20mm for me, a manual reading as my PWS is having a whinge and didn't record any of the rain that fell. I think it needs replacement batteries.

2.6 deg above average for nights here. If this continues into next month it isn't going to be much of a winter.

Days aren't much above but nights for some reason seem to be so high .

No further wet weather here.

Not much to report but last night and today, it's humid. You can feel it in the air. It's not like sweaty in summer but the air seems to have humidity in it still.

If i believe the Accuweather site the pattern won't change for another month before we see night temps drop.

My poor chooks don't know if they are laying or not.

I was out and about today and I thought it was just me, the humidity felt like back in early March again . Had to put the fan on earlier this evening. The only difference to March is the sun doesn't have that same intensity mixed with the humidity like it did back in March.

The Accuweather site I use now says in a week we should see cooler temps. Wait and see I guess.

Is it just me or does the weather pattern feel like last year ?

Big rain even after no rain for weeks(except 3-4 months earlier, think last year it was July)

Still warm in May. May 27th was 33 deg last year I know this it was my mum's birthday. This year we have had 27 deg just a few days prior to this

Starting winter cold next week (similar to last year right on the 1st of June) but only for a couple of days

If we have a mild shorter winter again and a similar summer it will almost be exactly like last year.

One thing I've also noticed is Yeppoon never seems to get summer rains until late Jan - Feb , not in December much, though that could be normal ?

I remember years when it was cool in Yeppoon until early October and winter had 5 deg nights for a week.

Looking at the BOM Meteye and smack bang on June 1, it thinks the feels like temp should be lower with ESE winds on the coast in the 40km/hr range.

Went walking this afternoon and nearly worked up a sweat ! BOM said it was 23 feels like 25 humidity 73 percent. I can put up with that in summer but at this time of the year there is not much wind.

It was looking good for a cold change at the end of the month but looks like SW winds for a day then swinging SEly bringing humidity and minimum temps up. I want winter! 26-27c days for the last two weeks, getting a little old now hehe

Some decent rain would be very nice. Last week we had a very light shower or 2. Not enough to wet the ground. Typically the road near the shop was drenched with puddles.

I am very grateful for the heavy dews we are having as it is keeping the grass green.

Not sure what to call this season but it's not winter. Muggy days and warm nights. Feels like April/May.

Got too hot with my blanket last night , dropped to 15 deg here , that's 3 deg above average.

It barely dropped below 19 degs at home for most of the night as warm tropical air came down ahead of the trough. More typical of Cairns winter temps.

Yeppoon reached 26 deg yesterday (5 deg above average) and Rocky 29 deg (6 deg above)

Now Rocky averages 23 deg with 10 at night in July if you look at the latest forecast perhaps on the 13th (if it gets cooler than forecast) other than that all above average !

Yeppoon reached 18 deg this morning (6 deg above average) and should be around the 21deg day 12deg night range. Perhaps on the 13 th we might see this. Currently saying 21 deg on July 12 and 13 but nights 1-2 deg above.

And so far Yeppoon is averaging 2 deg above average for day temps and 3deg above for nights.Rocky even worse 3.4 deg above average for days and 3.8 deg above for nights.

The weather for Rocky is more usual for September I'd say.

I hope we aren't in for a summer like last year as last winter was warm though not this warm.

How come Yeppoon is warmer than Rocky today, it's usually the other way around? (so far assuming no temp rises upcoming).

Well it's 21.6 deg which isn't too bad but the dew point is 19.2 deg and relative humidity is 86 percent.

Wasn't pleasant taking the dog to the beach, almost felt too warm .

I wonder if the heat /humidity is going to return quicker eg August and we will see 27 deg days sooner.

It's like the last couple of years winter has been warmer.

Just spent a couple of days camped down at the beach. Still shorts and tshirt weather. Slept at night with half the windows and the door open on the tent. Only a light blanket on to keep the chill off.

I was hoping for cold. But on the upside there has never been so many crabs in the creek before.

This feels strange apart from not having the fan going we've got all the windows open and doors. Normally a chill comes through the air at night and we shut it.

Walking the dog this morning was awful. Humidity was so high with sun shining feels like temp was 24 deg to 25 deg . Only wind was a light Westerly. The sun felt intense too. Yet the UV was not extreme . Only relief was right next to the water.

At 1030 feels like temp was 27 deg frown thanks to humidity.

I found Yeppoon's weather it's gone to here :

http://imgur.com/a/Jxw6c

Wonder what's causing the above average temps here but not in Brisbane?

Rocky is currently averaging for minimums, not 1 or 2 deg above not 3 or 4 but ....

Average This Month
14.2°C +4.6°C
Long-term Average 9.6°C

That's crazy ! 4.6 deg above for minimums . Gonna need some cold nights to drop that down.

Tonight in Rocky should be 7.4 deg above average ! But... Wednesday finally might come close to normality.

Tonight is chillier. Of course since the weather is sort of overcast, dampish I am painting. I had to turn the ac on to heat to dry the poly filler.

Pity there is no rain for me out of it. I had such a small amount of it I could here the individual drops on the roof.

Forecast maximum of 23c yesterday hit 26.5c, today forecast 24c sitting on 26.4c. Maybe tomorrow they'll get it right, or atleast 1c closer lol

I received 1.3mm here at home.
Models showing a proper winter setup in a weeks time or so. I really hope so.

Finally a drop in humidity. If Yeppoon is getting 24 deg maximums later this week with 15 deg minimums what happens in September? 24 is more of a September temperature.

Perhaps, and I'm hoping this doesn't happen, we could be in for early heat come September.

A towel was left inside and because it still is so humid in the dry season (isn't stifling hot though) , the towel has got mould on it.

Crazy . That is more of a warm season thing.

Seems to not only be affecting the Cap Coast but Mackay and Townsville all have warmer than average nights and days. Such a dissapointment after a warmer than normal summer. It feels like it never is cooling down .

Miss those 8 deg Yeppoon mornings frown followed by a DRY low 20's day.

If the BOM data is correct then Yeppoon had a colder night than Rocky. Not sure why... Also still above average in Rocky last night as min average is 9.6deg , temp was 10.7deg. Perhaps it was warmer because of the wind in Rocky.

Yeppoon never seems to drop lower than 7 or 8deg , maybe one year in the last five , it has been 4 or 5 deg but just one or two nights.

Could be because we're close to the beach. Having said that you're close to the beach and getting 5 deg in the Wide Bay area.

Tonight now predicted to be 11 deg not 14 ...how come they get min temps so wrong up here?

Always seems they predict higher in winter than we actually get.

It's due to the computer program and modelling they use. It rarely gets minimums right in central and North Queensland.

Interesting but could be wrong.

Looking at the Accuweather website and it predicts that from August the 20th Yepppon will heat up. It has Yeppoon on 28 deg for the first few days of September. Which would mean temps over 30 for Rocky.

Wish we had a closer to average winter with less above average temps. Feels like it never cools down much for long . Yeppoon should have 3 solid coolish months. Feels like we've had 3 weeks.

Not sure what just happened but the dew point just dropped to 12.5 deg and the humidity to 54 percent, was 74percent just before with a dew point around 16/17 deg.

Wind is still easterly and didn't change. Changed around 1pm http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ60801/IDQ60801.94373.shtml

I reckon by September temps in the early 30's and late September into October temps in the mid 30's in Rocky, similar to I think last year.

Hope I'm wrong.

Would be nice to have "average temps" although the 25 deg yesterday didn't feel as high as 25 .

Might not even happen but it looks like we could see up to 70mm of rain on Sunday on the coast in Yeppoon and 20 mm in Rockhampton... if the GFS forecast is accurate.

Would be nice to see something. Feels like the last decent rain we had for a week was back in March.

Really muggy here feels like October weather. No rain either.

Luckily the humidity goes away in 2 days, but it's just disgusting. Washing won't dry in humidity higher than 80 percent.

Not a strong breeze either so it's 23 feels like 25/26 deg.

Hard to believe last night was August. Felt so warm.

Wednesday morning 8 deg hard to imagine. Minus 1 deg dew point on Tuesday afternoon !

I'm concerned if it's this warm already , summer is going to be rainless muggy and warmer than normal. Rocky already nudging 30 deg in winter.

If you take Debbie's 600 mm of rain out of Yeppoon's rainfall this year, it would be a very dry year around 100 and something mm.

7.6mm here and a few rumbles. It looks like storms are cranking again near Emerald so we may get another crack or two before this lot finally clears sometime tomorrow.

Vinnie in 2010 Cairns had its warmest June and August (average minimum temperature) on record which heralded the commencement of a very wet period through Spring and Summer.

You are getting way ahead of yourself.

Not sure what it is like in Rocky but when the humidity drops in Yeppoon it's like the air feels less heavy. Really pleasant.

Yesterday humidity was 90 percent in the morning dropped to 57 percent and the seabreeze came in , in the arvo and raised it back to 83 percent.

Looking at the Accuweather website it says it will warm up in the daytime on about the 16th. Also the site I look at for rain, all 3 models have no rain for the next 10 days, zilch , nothing. Not even a shower.

Geez, now GFS has Rocky on 33 deg, next Tuesday and Wednesday , nights 14-16 deg though. Yeppoon on 28 deg.

That seems high for Rocky but Weatherzone says highest On Recordc35.1°C 30th 2009 in Rocky... was that a wet year? i'll have to havea look at some stage.

it looks like we will get up to 30-31c next week. It got to 29.9c on the 7th so we've already got very close.
Today is lovely, 24c, low humidity. Lowest in the state in Rocky ATM only 8% humidity!

8.5 deg here. Didn't feel that cold. Guess we don't get the winds with it.

Wonder if it will be a more active storm season this year. More heat and humidity around.

Wouldn't mind around 50-100mm for the garden. Most of the garden is doing ok but being in sand the smaller plants that are getting the winter sun need watering.

Rocky must be looking like a dustbowl with this weather. Some very very low humidity coming on the weekend. Probably as low as 5 percent for Rocky.

Mid October and possibly in quite dramatic fashion according to some sources.

What sources?

Also Yeppoon is averaging 2.6 deg BELOW average for nights with nights for for the next week below average. I guess if the later half of September is warmer this may go back to normal but it is weird coming from an above average night month to below.

Cooler weather isn't over just yet.

No they didn't. They said there is an 80% chance of exceeding the average based on historical data. That means they also said there is a 20% chance it won't happen.

Hope this doesn't sound silly but comparing a Cat 3-4 cyclone on Australia vs Florida, is the effect worse because of higher populations and more built up in Florida?

Bit of cloud out today.

Florida has around 20 million people living there (Australia 24 million) . It is also low lying in many places . Until Katrina in New Orleans ,Hurricane Andrew which cut through the middle of Florida was the most costly back in 1992.

Assuming the BOM is right, the minimum in Yeppoon was warmer than Townsville, Cairns or Mackay last night at 21 deg. Was forecast to drop to 14 deg, never happened and I don't know why. Wind just stayed NE all night.

Probably best that from now on when you are warned for the potential of disaster that you simply ignore the warnings and go play down the beach. wink

Considering all the stations around you went close to forecast including St Lawrence and Gladstone your station may have had a fault or you may have just gotten very lucky.

From the Far North Qld thread , I know it's dry at the moment but after a couple of quiet (ish) cyclone years :

Quote:
This season, we expect to see an average to above-average (Av=11) number of tropical cyclones forming. The main contributor to this outlook is the La Nińa-like temperatures in the Pacific Ocean. Warm seas to the north of Australia and in the eastern Indian Ocean may further help fuel cyclone development.
These patterns are also associated with increased rainfall and flood risk.

First 30 deg here since March. Overcast, dry air and wind coming not from the sea though, nothing like summer's 30 deg.

34.4°C on the 12th of September in 2013 , so it was a bit warmer back then. Warmest on record .

Kinka Beach? Wind in the evening is a bit cooling despite it saying it's 20deg.

GFS has Yeppoon on 31-33deg next Sunday and Monday... though probably more like 28 deg.

Aren't the high pressure systems meant to be further south at this time of year? Would more rain keep us from having above average temperatures with more cloud?

Turns out it was cool, must not have felt it...

Looking at the forecast for Yeppoon , it looks like we go jump ahead to December weather and November weather in the next few days.

Looking so dry here, being on sand it is starting to look like Perth, grass drying out, turning to sand.

10 percent chance of a storm was in the forecast here... gone now .

At least it's still bearable at nights and humidity through the day here isn't drenching the t shirt.

Perth W.A has had 721mm , Yeppoon has had 764mm this year so far

Perth has showers forecast , it's possible that this dry spell continues and Perth for a bit will be ahead on yearly rainfall.

Also if we get nothing by the end of the month it will be the driest on record for Yeppoon.

Never seen so many birds in the garden, I'm keeping it watered and now Ibis are coming in too. I guess having native plants helps.

Usually when we get good rains regularly birds go elsewhere in the parks .

Yeah nice and cool down here but the humidity is there, a little bit this morning before the breeze builds up and moves the air around.

Not as bad as Jan-March ..

If it's this hot now wonder what it's gonna be like in Nov-March.

Hotter? 38 in yepoon 46 in Rocky?

Hopefully wet and milder....

Last year was the muggiest, driest summer I've experienced on the coast every other year was pleasant. I've been here since 2011 , there have been muggy days in other years in summer but always had rain in betweeen and cloud .

The coolest part of Rocky I've been in was around Nerimbera for some reason .

An 11 deg difference in temp between Yeppoon and Rocky today...

36 deg in Rocky about now

25 in Yeppoon.

So a strong breeze on the coast as a result of the differences...

Even places like Melbourne are dry , but because they can get say 40mm spread out over 3 weeks , it seems wetter. Year to date they are below average so far.

Perth on 766mm so far this year and Yeppoon is on 765mm

That's how dry it is . Yet for Perth it is considered above average lol

I guess it is the way the rain falls in Yeppoon. All at once for 2 weeks a bit in May and that's it

Looking at http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/watl/rainfall/pme.jsp

It looks like any substantial rain is south of Yeppoon, more towards Rocky and below.

5-10mm tomorrow and Monday for Yeppoon, not much if we even get that .

BOM is calling it rain so my take on that is light rain falling most of tomorrow and the next but overall perhaps no more than 15mm out of it , similar to mid May for Yeppoon.

LOL. Yeah, I read that. The subsurface tells a very different story to last year but I can't be bothered with it to be honest.

Hopefully the rain delivers here. It's so dry it is beyond ridiculous.

OMG. It is fair pidding down. Gutters overflowing, which I would prefer didn't happen instead of going into the tanks. Thunder. Lightning. I think I will need a shovel to dig the stupid dog out from under my bed. I am sure it is impersonating an echidna under there.

Got a 4 am invasion from the daughter, her boyfriend and another couple of their friends. They had been camping locally and decided where better to shelter from a storm than my place.

Tipped out 100 and it is starting again. Went and fixed part of the issue with the gutters. Leaves. The gutters were cleaned recently but with no hubby home and wind I guess they built up a bit again.

Thanks everyone. Things were so dry. I am not sure that some of the trees will survive. I know my bottom dam has filled. Will have to check the others.

We have had nothing. I tallied it the other day and it was something like 70ml since Debbie. That is only a good storm's worth of rain.

I think it is the only storm we have caught this year. Of the thunder and lightning type.

15mm here south of Yeppoon. Doesn't feel/look like 15mm fell , seems like less.

Rain gauge says 15mm though.

Another power cut this morning for an hour or so , one a few days ago .
same amount of time.

Not an unusual downpour for that area though. Especially at this time of year. We have had 14mm or so.

The forecasts were quite accurate this time.

Yeppoon seems to have the rain heading away from it in both directions

I recall Bundy was getting rain about this time I think last year when Rocky/Yeppoon was getting barely anything.

Road to Bundy from north is OUT. Done and dusted. Daughter and her boyfriend just made it to mates place in town. They were the last car allowed through before the road closed signs went up.

Next time they will listen to mum. At least they had their camping gear so if they had to stuck they could have been comfortable to a degree.

North side of bundy is flooding pretty badly. The car yard is snatching their cars out and parking them on the slightly higher road verge. Landmark building is flooded.

175mm in 4 hours is an exceptional event for this area. It makes up around 15% of Bundaberg's ANNUAL average rainfall.

Would you believe we have the local "Important People" (self proclaimed of course) encouraging someone to try driving from Bundy home because they got through from the north 2 hours ago. Good grief. I hope if the fruitloops do try it based on the advice of the important people the important people are charged if anything happens to the fruitcakes.

I will now wait for the HELP post from them. I saw some pics of the south side. The BP there is under water. That is on higher level ground. Imagine all that water on the North side and the hundred k home. But no, they are going for it. I personally hope their car gets flooded in a place where they can safely get out before drowning.

Even my kids, who have grown up with regular flooding and the roads have tucked themselves up safely in town.

I have 165 since about 4 am and it is piddling down, again. All dams, including the neighbours big one, are overflowing. Our local roads should start to play submarine soon. The only reason they haven't yet is I think every tank, dam and watercourse around the neighbourhood has been dry.

Bundy on 229 mm now since 9AM. I have been speaking to a few people on SM and there are a few who have wisely decided to sit tight for the night in Bundaberg.

Currently on 183mm at home and still belting down.

No SEWS. My area stays dry compared to those around me. The road gets cut off a couple of k's away but looking at radar I'd say the worst is gone south and east.

Some humid winds and storms behind the trough with any luck

Any one want to laugh with me?

Yesterday the 2 tanks closest to the house which are interconnected were overflowing. Their catchment is the house. The large tank that collects the water from shed was still half empty.

Smart woman that I am shoves hose into the big tank and turns on the tap. No point not putting that excess into the half empty tank.

Half an hour later it dawns on me that perhaps I should check which tank the pump is connected to. Yup. The big half empty one. Oh well, consider it well aerated.

Forgot hubby had switched tanks a while back. I am blaming my silliness on the wet. smile

Sorry RC. Hope you get some good rain soon.

Another good shower yesterday. More today by the looks.

I am off to town today so will be stocking up ready for a flood. All the dams around here now are full, creeks too so it won't take much for the roads to do their usual submarine act.

Interestingly I have only seen reports of max 60ml to the near north of us. Usually they get it and we miss it. We must have been at the very top of the heavy falls.

This is such a nice change after so much dry. My piggies are absolutely loving it.

About 33 mm here in the 3 days . Some lawns still look brown.

This humidity, out to sea it looked all misty and even looking towards the hills, all misty. No idea when this humidity will drop... it's' not so much the humidity it's the lack of breeze when I live close to the sea ... it's not very windy for some reason.

Forecasts seem to be indicating another deluge of rain for the Burnett and inland regions later next week. Again with a northern cut off point similar to the last rain event.

Anyone get a feeling another rain event is not far away.. That this spring is going to be different to the previous four?

It has been different for us already. Dams are full, tanks are full. Last few years have been so dry coming into summer. I like to have water in the dams in case of fires. If I am lucky I even use some on the gardens.

Yeah the last few years it seems like we've had to wait ages for rain that falls after Christmas.

Also

http://ozforecast.com.au/cgi-bin/weather.cgi?location=Yeppoon.QLD&pagetype=forecast

and

http://ozforecast.com.au/cgi-bin/weather.cgi?location=rockhampton.QLD&pagetype=forecast

are showing some sort of rain next Monday with SE winds and cooler temps. Cooler being low 20's for Yeppoon and Rocky.

This was from the Rockhampton and CQ Weather Updates Facebook page:

10-DAY ECMWF RAINFALL OUTLOOK
For: Tuesday 10 October to Thursday 19 October

==
Computer modelling is becoming increasingly interested in some rainfall across parts of the local region during next week.
It’s too early to say definatively just yet, but it appears from preliminary forecasting that some of the rain could be accompanied by thunderstorms.
At this very early stage, the computer models are interested in falls in excess of 40mm along the coast.
We’ll keep a close eye on this forecast as it develops and provide further updates when we have a clearer picture of what to expect.

Main points:

Weather forecaster Mike Griffin said an unusual October weather event could hit CQ commencing on the Central Highlands with storm activity Thursday and Friday and continue towards the coast.

Mike said an upper cold pool, jet stream and onshore convergence needed to happen in unison for maximum rainfall.

"If they all line up we will see triple figure falls," he said.

Going to be interesting how much falls as some days the BOM has "shower or two" but has a big range of rainfall eg Tuesday it says "shower or two " but 4-40mm so perhaps the wet weather isn't going to be widespread?

Or maybe that's the BOM's way of saying it will rain but we don't know how much...

PineFest could be cancelled?

8 to 30 mm

50% chance of 8mm and a 25% chance of 30mm according to a couple of sources I have read. So still a chance of nothing. So an even money chance of nothing on that day. Comprende?

P.S other than today's forecast for Yeppoon the remainder are computer generated.

...and BoM NEVER know exactly how much rain will fall. They are not magicians and the forecast relies on the end user using their brain to some extent , viewing warnings and "looking out the window".

7mm last night here , which was weird because the forecast said showers were less likely in the evening but around midnight it came down and again early in the morning. So all the nearly dry washing I left out thinking that we were gonna get nothing, got wet again....

The Water and The Land section of the BOM site still has 25-50mm rain on Tuesday and 50-100mm Wednesday.

What the heck is Higgins on about 500mm near Bundaberg.... even the BOM Water and The Land maps don't show this. I would rather go with what the BOM says than scare people with this :

https://higginsstormchasing.com/dangerous-storm-potential-bundaberg-sunshine-coast-brisbane/

“Worse case scenario” A very dangerous thunderstorm with extremely heavy rainfall up to 500mm has the “potential” to develop between about Bundaberg and Brisbane on Monday. That also includes Hervey Bay, Fraser Island, Gympie the Sunshine Coast and adjacent inland areas also at risk. This type of storm could cause SEVERE flash flooding and place many lives at risk frown

It won't worry me if we are flooded for a month. I have plenty of supplies. Not sure my son will be home for a few days or more if this keeps up though. He went to work today so hopefully he makes it home.

***WEATHER WARNING***
Expert says Rockhampton is bracing for two months worth of rainfall in the next 24-48 hours:
http://ow.ly/f8hM30fTAWo

Quote:
A SEVERE thunderstorm warning has just been issued for parts of the Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett districts.

The warning was issued at 12:51pm this afternoon.

"Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours."

The next warning is set to be issued by 3:55pm this afternoon.

Earlier today, it was revealed Rockhampton is bracing for two months worth of spring rainfall in the next 24-48 hours.

Local weather expert Mike Griffin said a very strong ridge with a trough moving up the Queensland coast which could create heavy falls for the Capricornia region in the 48-hour period.

"We're getting an upper cold pool which dumped 100 - 150mm at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday," Mr Griffin said.

He said the region could receive between 50 to 100mm from late today through to early Thursday.

According to BoM, the average October rainfall for Rockhampton is 47.7 millimetres which means the city would almost double its normal rainfall for this month.

Mr Griffin expects the strong to gale force winds and squally showers for the coast during the next day or so.

"It is going to be part of this trough that is coming up the coast," he said.

"Falls will be heaviest along the coast and as they come inland, we'll get some here in Rockhampton and could reach as far west as Dingo and Blackwater, maybe Emerald."

Mr Griffin said there would be isolated storms in the Capricornia and Central Highlands regions this afternoon.

"The larger isolated ones will cover about a 15 or 20 kilometres radius and the other ones less; most areas could miss out," he said.

Across the weekend, some areas reported high rainfalls while others close by received none.

"Most of this rainfall was convective rainfall, in the case of that thunderstorm at Kabra, just south of Rockhampton on Sunday afternoon, it only covered an area of roughly 20 to 25 kilometres; thunder was heard for a good hour at Rocky before the cell died about 5pm," Mike said."The rest of the places around it missed out altogether."

Bit of thunder here but calm maybe a few mm and it stopped a while ago... just lots of rumbles now but calm no rain. Radar makes it look like it's pouring here but it is not.

As usual with storms, seems to be raining in the centre of Yeppoon but not here. Heaps of thundery noises though.

The roads here are beginning their impersonations of submarines.

I have pulled out the valium for the dog that impersonates echidnas under my bed.

Big rain again from the Boyne Valley south. It is like there is a force field that prevents it from moving further north. Can see blue sky here this morning.

It hasn't stopped all night here. Stupid dog ended up on my bed after doing the beaver act on my door jams. Not even shoving a valium down it's throat stopped it.

This feels like de ja vu , wasn't there an event last year , storms or something and it rained in Bundaberg a heap and this area missed out.

Maybe tomorrow the trough will move up here?

South of Gladstone is traditionally a wetter area then here Vinnie. The rain down there appears to now be diminishing as it moves further north.

I doubt we will see any very widespread totals like that up here. In fact I think the heavier rain will be entirely coastal and off shore.

It's really only showering on the coastal fringe here, maybe if that blob near Byfield moved south and inland Rocky might get the 30mm or so predicted today. BOM still saying 100 percent chance o f45-80mm in Rocky tomorrow.

Bulldust !

You really need to learn how to interpret the forecasts Vinnie. They NEVER say 100% for starters and the rainfall amounts have been explained to you before.

Rocky's forecast for tomorrow.

"Cloudy. Very high (near 100%) chance of rain at times".

We are up to 188 for this event with poop loads more to come. Top that up with the more than 160 last week and it is no wonder we are flooded.

I wish I could share it round.

Doesn't look like we will be going anywehre for a while. The big bridge is submerged now. That has happened quick. Normally takes a couple of days for the water to come down the creek and close the bridge.

I think what happened is the rain system saw the headlines in the morning bulletin and thought, well we are having none of that.

Quote:
ROCKHAMPTON has only had a taste of the wild weather with experts warning the worst is yet to come.

I think I will believe it when I see it as I have heard it time and time again and we end up with 5mm.

This is getting silly now. My house feels like I am living in a swamp. I have resorted to closing it up and turning the ac on to dry.

Why can I never have those pleasant showers that green life up and cool it down instead of being bloody hot and dry or rain of biblical proportions.

I think we have had a years worth over the last couple of days. Going to be lots of cleaning up to do after this with the amount of trees that have fallen over.

I would think RC has had some rain also looking at the radar, rain has spread inland south of Rocky now too, with another band moving south too currently around Thompson point area

Yes it is raining here now. Currently it looks like there is a feeder band coming in and going towards Mt Morgan. It will be interesting to see if that stays like that for most of the night.

I have found if you get under one of those bands you can get some high totals.

Amazingly BoM have cancelled the severe weather warning for this area and yet we are recording some of our heaviest rain for the entire event.

Some areas over the Burnett catchment have recorded ovr 200mm in the past 20 hours.

Yea I saw the radar showing rain around Bundaberg then the severe weather warning now starts north of Gladstone.

Just tipped out 157mm.

That is pretty crook Vinnie. I know that pockets can miss out though.

156mm overnight and 230 mm altogether for the whole rain event. Off to mend fences washed away by the force of the water.

Managed to get to my other rain gauge a few km away. Tipped out 222mm. Very little damage here. The creeks ran much higher earlier in the year from cyclone Debbie.

Someone told me 107mm at Kinka Beach since Saturday. 58mm in my suburb (20mm in my gauge) Very odd how not widespread this was. I know it hasn't been overly wet here as the parks here don't have water laying around on them.

78mm at Zilzie someone has also mentioned since Saturday.

Any meterorological explanation for it missing these areas .

Having a quick look around sites this morning I don't think we will be going anywhere for a fair while.

Rainfall figures from above us are absolutely stupid. All that rain has to come through us before we get anywhere. Of course there are all these people saying 'are the roads open yet'. I really struggle with peoples lack of intelligence.

I am glad to see some others getting needed rain.

I had just a very good belly laugh. Someone on stupid book complaining they have water in shed, stables, feed bales ruined. They have had 340ml, live on flatter land (which is where water would go to) and blame the neighbours lack of drainage.

Feel like I'm in a different part of the world when I say nothing here .

Would be nice to see the sun, can't remember the last day we had a full sunny day.. was it Friday last week?

Who was it who posts on here that a year or so ago , lives in a part of Rocky and the rain kept missing them most of the year ... I feel like I'm in that scenario now. It rained this morning in the centre of Yeppoon town but as soon as I came back to my place not a drop apparently.

I guess I am happy it is green.

I know I can sometimes let it be known I have missed out on rain Vinnie - may have been me. Lol. It'll break soon for you, it is still only October after all smile
Speaking of - Rocky has officially broken rainfall record for October - 153.0mm so far this month, previous record was 152.4mm in 1952. More rain forecasted should bring that total higher before the end of the month. Nice smile

Not sure if many people know this but BOM do have on their website all the weather data from all the sites all over Queensland. This includes sites that have been defunct for decades. For example Stanmore, started in 1899 and finished in 1904 but the collected http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/ncc/cdio/weath..._stn_num=039183 data is online

At the other end of the spectrum is Pacific Heights, 124 years of data and still going http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/ncc/cdio/weath..._stn_num=033077

This was just a quick site search of 50km from Rockhampton.

Would anyone believe we are still flooded in? grin

It is hilarious to me to watch the Agnes lot losing their minds. People will die. Council should build the road up so we don't get flooded in. I have no idea where they think they would go as either side of Miriam vale, the highway, was under water.

Looks like the road to the bridge is stuffed so visits to Bundy will take me about a bloody long time. Probably close to 3 hours. ARGH. Oh well, the price you pay for rain.

That may not be a bad thing. hehehehehehe

Son took his boat out on the creek to check the bosses boat there and lengthen the anchor chain. Offered to do a shop run for anyone this side who needed anything.

I was a bit concerned and warned him to watch out for fencing and such. He told me not to worry. There was 4.5 metres between him and the ground as he has the sounder on watching for things.

He is a good boy.

Yet another run today by the crew. Boss in town did the shopping/drug supplies for the community. Boys ran the river to collect them. Hubby and I collected them from the boys and did the delivery run.

Have to rinse repeat tomorrow morning for some drugs for a fellow out here who will die without them. For some reason the emergency disaster people couldn't do it but I can?

So yes, we are still flooded. Road to town is stuffed and we are told will be a month before we can get to town unless we go the bloody long way. I plan on cheating. Son can take me across the river in the boat, daughter can pick me up and I will spend the night with her. Use her car during the day and then reverse it to get home.

Tablelands beyond the Essendean. No road at all at the moment. There is a mud pit though. They also suspect damage to the bridge I am led to believe.

That is because you do not live in a city. The same happened after cyclone Debbie. Local helicopter owners and pilots used their own machines at their own expense to ferry food and check on people.

The government paid people were nowhere to be found in the most devastated areas. They probably had to do ten days of paperwork first.

I don't need to mow my lawns the rain hasn't really made it grow much. It's greener but not much growth. Had some rain this afternoon, only 2mm though.

It's weird how the storm a few days back went over the salt flats to Lammermoor but missed out on here by 3km. I saw the council mowing around that area and the grass was lush and long, Mulambin Beach it had greened up but not as lush.

Well, we are free sort of. Can get out if we go the long way but I am happy where I am so am staying put. I can sit here for another month easily.

I did leave home today to do a couple of supply runs for some people.

Hubby is going to have to brushcut the grass in front of the veranda as he isn't going to get a lawn mower there due to the soggy but it has grown lots.

I am over the moon to have some green around the place.

We didn't get one. There was one to the south west when I went to bed and just hoped it wasn't going to make it here. Dog is absolutely stupid about storms.

There is to the east of us. Lot of activity just to your east too.

Well, the boys made the paper.

https://www.gladstoneobserver.com.au/new...lood-r/3246376/

Pretty proud of them being able to achieve what the emergency services couldn't.

Our bridge is open to local traffic so I will make the trek tomorrow to town to deliver the meat to my daughter that i picked up for her in Gladdy today.

I sort of like being flooded in. So much more peaceful

Pretty proud of them being able to achieve what the emergency services couldn't.

Our bridge is open to local traffic so I will make the trek tomorrow to town to deliver the meat to my daughter that i picked up for her in Gladdy today.

I sort of like being flooded in. So much more peaceful

I am amazed the Winfield ramp was accessible. Good job.

They actually launced from the Baffle side, crossed to Winfield, then returned to the Baffle side.

They did help some fellas at Winfied who were trying to remove timber caught on their jetties as well.

I was thinking the same Brad, it's got some speed behind it and seems to be maintaining strength. I'd say lightning is a definite at some point tonight 😉

Looking that way. It is south and it is north with a gap in the middle.

A usual pattern.

It went from slipping south to absolutely smashing us! I have not seen a storm like this in quite a while. Constant lightning, thunder with some very loud bangs. Wind picked up a fair bit there too! My rain gauge has decided to stop working at this time and point though frown
