Wow that subsidence inversion at Penrith has been going on a for a couple of days now. Odd given that Mt Boyce is at nearly 100% humidity. But the station is saying 7% humidity with -20C DP. Jokes aside, BOM need to get that fixed ASAP.

In fact around Sydney many places have humidity levels in the high 90s. There must be a fair bit of fog about. The Penrith humidity measurement is obviously malfunctioning.

Last night was our coldest night of the year and the first single digit temp too, 9.1c also 0.5mm from a mid afternoon shower yesterday.
Well I'm going to enjoy this stunning day by climbing Yacaaba Headland.

We ducked over to Orange on Saturday. Got there about 11.30 am.

It was cool at about 10 or 11 BUT boiling in the sun. We sat out in it having a coffee but had to move into shade - the sun was tremendously hot on the shirt and skin. A bit crazy given the air temp smile

We went to the top of Canobolas not long after. It was cool but not bad - again full sunshine up there.

HOWEVER to the west and south we could see a distinct and striking cloud layer at around the same elevation as the top of the mount - perhaps slightly lower. Should have taken a photo but was too lazy.

We wandered back down and had lunch at the Mountain Tea house of the flanks of Canobolas. After that we wandered to Lake Canobolas for a drive around.

By that time, cloud had hit the peak BUT the top of the thin cloud band was about level with the top of the peak. This gave an interesting view of a thin band of cloud wrapped around the pinnacle HOWEVER the towers were protruding ABOVE the cloud. Quite an interesting view. I was driving when I saw that and again was too lazy to stop and snap it.

I don't know why Orange held on to the cold so well on Saturday (max about 12). It was quite warm in Bathurst when we got home (around 19).

I suspect the thin cloud of Canobolas MAY have gone over Orange as we left but not sure.

Good fog here this morning. Nights have been 3 to 4 degrees below what BOM have forecast here for a week or so now. Opticast is picking our nights better in general.

Since Friday we've been about zero each night or marginally above.

Similar conditions were seen here on Saturday Dave. I drove through the Blue Mountains in the morning and was amazed at the warmth there: Blackheath was 17C on the car thermometer. Here the max was 11C! A mantle of low cloud lay out toward Crookwell with a few puffs of cloud edging over us, but it was sunny for the most part. Despite the cool air, the afternoon sun felt quite warm. By 530pm the temperature had plunged to 4.5C.

April saw slightly less than normal rain here, with a total of 49mm. Seems the BoM's April rain predictions were pretty well spot on.

Yes Rob - agree with the cloud to your south - very obvious from Canobolas. smile

We came in with temps that were a tiny bit BELOW average for max & min. Statistically though the variance was so small that you basically say it was average. Not many times we could say that in recent years.

We were a bit dry though - about 10mm vs 41 average.

Have a look at the sat pic - a big cold air field in the shape of a "brain" in the GAB.

Leading edge about to hit Tassie. A pretty picture of coldies smile

Warm breeze out here today. About 18 but feels much warmer than that.

Sun still has a lot of sting!!! smile

Yeah the sort of change that will smash into tassie.
Should drop the temp a bit and knock some leaves off for NSW.

In a bad sign for ski season this year I note that the last time Perth had no rain in April was in 1982. It was a very bad year. June and July of that year were colder than usual. But the atmosphere was real dry with an El Nino kicking in later that year. An El Nino event is possibly on cards later this year too. May 82 also saw a pair of real warm days in the first 5 days of May too. Depending on timing of wind shift tomorrow Sydney could see another 25 plus tomorrow. If I owned a resort or worked in the industry I would be very worried. So I am gonna call it. A bad season with a snow depth at SC of a paltry 110 cm

With the storm season probably finished for 2016/17, I thought I'd give my count of storms that I've seen at or near home:

Code:
Total: 23 storms on 19 days.

September: 1
October: None
November: 6
December: 4
January: None
February: 7
March: 3
April: 2

Most memorable:
* Dec 8 - lightshow and heavy rain
* Feb 18: - Hail up to 3.5cm

Probably a slightly below average season (I don't have stats), wih a couple of lean periods.

There may be one or two storms during Winter, but last year, there were no storms between May 2 and Sept 24.

You can see my storm count below obviously.

Most memorable would be:

Feb 18: Hail to 3.5cm, but mostly 2-3cm.
Apr 9: Crazy wind
Apr 26: Really tiny hail, wind and because it was last week.

And a quite a mild night too so far, still 18c at near 10pm!!

Oh you poor sod!! poke

Do you have any pics from the top? I walked to the top of a mountain this afternoon as well. I planned it to catch a nice sunset and it didn't disappoint.

Yeah I didn't expect the sun to have so much sting in it.
I haven't really gone through all the pics yet, just check my link out below, I've posted a couple in there.
Cheers

High cloud around.
Feeling very autumn like this morning
If the sun stays hidden, will be a mild day.
