1.0mm in the 24hrs to 9am this morning, and 6.2mm since 9am.
A storm developed in the afternoon and moved toward the coast, but it lost all its lightning/thunder once it got around 6-8kms from the sea, and was instead a fast-moving moderate shower when it reached here. The decaying storm on approach -

The front should move through here very soon. The winds in Kempsey and Port have swung to the west and become moderate, along with dewpoints dropping from 16-17 down to near 9.

Another burst of heavy rain and wind last night with a narrow line leaves another 5mm in the rain bucket. 14.5mm total here in W. Warwick yesterday. Not bad. Now, the fireplace is going!

Having a look around NENSW, in general, April temps will finish below average on the ranges, and slightly below average on the coast.

Thanks Ken. Yeah, over the next 10 minutes that followed after that photo you could see it visually weakening. Despite the weakening, I was half-expecting a flash or two of lightning given it was an orange echo as it passed over, but it didn't produce any. Grafton Radar scans over a 20 minute period -

China Southern Air 787 just overflew Brisbane at 39000 ft steaming along at 583kn in STJ enroute to Christchurch.

It was producing a contrail which evaporated/dispersed rapidly.

Does anybody know the met conditions which enable contrails to form and persist?

One of the biggest factors is moisture at that height. They tend to persist longer when there's lots of moisture up there because the ice crystals don't evaporate as quickly.

There's other factors such as type of engine, etc but moisture is a big one.

Terrific Ken. In Australia do we get suitable conditions for long lived contrails further south? I am thinking of the northern latitudes of Europe/Britain where contrails are a very apparent long lived feature especially in winter skies. Do they ever have to get factored into forecasts of ambient temperatures?

Possible storm in forecast this afternoon/evening for Brisbane, not high probability but here's hoping.
