Thought we'd missed out on the whirlwinds this season, but guess they're yet to come. Dreading them, as sometimes the width of my block, 20 metres. However, if we got a really decent one that could pick up the carpet of dried prickly weed seeds and carry them across the road, I would be over the moon.

The massive rains/floods (monsoon)in SE Asia must mean something for us at some point.

Just tallied up the meager 25.5 mm that blessed us this August. The total for the three months of this winter just 295 mm the last 5 year average being 437 mm so we are a tad dry at the moment. still had 2784 mm YTD. Not only do we have to make our own electricity up here, we have to supply our own water as well. Lot of people checking tank levels at the moment. Still 3 months of dry season to go !!!1

The Torres Strait pigeons seem to have arrived extra early this year, or am I wrong, is this when they would normally show up?

Maybe by a few weeks, but it seems to be around Sept.
I have 3 pairs that return to exactly the same branch fork of the same trees every year.
I'm amongst a heap of melaleucas, so they must have a great inbuilt Tom Tom gps ! smile

Got attacked by 2 ferocious march flies today, so I guess they also are 2-3 weeks early Wanjina..I normally start seeing the pigeons during the school holidays around here..

Apart from this bit of cold night snap, the rest of the warm winter seems to have started summer a bit early...

My missus, originally from New York City,is really enjoying these cool nights...I'm hating them though...I really cant see anything enjoyable at all about being cold..I dont even want to get up early in the morning to go fishing..hopefully we will see nighttime temps soon around the 20c mark..then I can come out of hibernation..

So nice to know someone who hibernates in the cold.
Met someone on twitter a few days ago, from Mackay, complaining he's cold below 28 degrees. At least I'm not the only one.

Have had some pretty decent gusts the last few days. Has been calm till about 2pm then the gusts start up. Yesterday had a gust of 49.9km/hr. On Saturday there was a gust of 83.7km/hr which I assume must have been a whirlwind going straight over my WS. That is the strongest gust of wind I have recorded since being in FNQ.

It would have to be you'd think Simmo. That's up over 40 knots.

Cool pic RF.

Yeah CF, funny though that it is my strongest gust by about 20km/hr in over 5 years here. Someone I know in SA has had that 8 times this winter.

Worth a 2nd look ,Ron..looks great against the Blue sky..!

28, I think last night was one of the coldest this year at our house..Sth Johnstone recorded 12.8c..I sure hope Ron is right and it starts getting back to normal later in the week..sweating pretty good in the daytime though..and noticing a few areas of grass dying off with the dry..

I guess I cant complain too much..Hurricane Irma is tearing up the Caribbean islands at the moment with max sustained winds of 295km/h and gusting to 360 km/h...considerably stronger than Yasi so having to don an extra blanket and jumper seems pretty trivial in comparison..Poor bugga's on those islands over there ..!

Weather is great at the moment, will it last? Cool overnight, dry, nice warm days. Ground is just right, not to wet not to dry.....

That's a beauty RF.

We had a whopper this morning. Bl**day big thing, carrying lots of red dirt. The dirt part spanning about 16-17 metres. It even looked like a tornado, in miniature, although it didn't go high. Not that I noticed. Mesmerised. Too late to bring the clothes in. Too late to shut doors & windows. Stood on the back deck & willed it into the vacant lot....im getting good at this over the years. 😆

We're back to warmer nights here Scott. 16-ish mostly.

Nights still getting down to 11-12c here. Was 9c a couple of mornings ago. Pool is a pleasant 29c now. Anything under 28c is too cold unless you are going to do laps, you can't relax and have a bev. poke

I have a feeling this September is going to be very dry. Thinking we will be lucky to get 1mm out here.
Still have everything crossed for a wet November.
