Let's hope for some good storms this build-up. I saw a storm in Quebec City 3 weeks ago and it was awesome. Othrwise, Cairns has not had a storm in months...

Yes this one Hickory:

https://www.canon.com.au/camera-lenses/ef-70-200mm-f-2-8l-usm

Good lens and got it for a price I couldnt pass up. Depending on your requirements the IS may or may not be a necessity.

Having f/2.8 capability at 200mm is great.
You should be able to get 1/60th sec or so at that reach, so I.S. shouldn't be necessary really.

My limited experience suggests you need at least double, if not triple that shutter speed for hand held @ 200mm smile

Yeah, maybe double on a dull day, but a tripod or even a $25 monopod is a big help. My quick release plate for the tripod also fits the el-cheapo monopod. Just a fluke, and it's only about 15" long closed up.
Keep the images coming Ron,- always great to look at.

Some words from the cyclone outlook

This season, we expect to see an average to above-average (Av=11) number of tropical cyclones forming. The main contributor to this outlook is the La Niña-like temperatures in the Pacific Ocean. Warm seas to the north of Australia and in the eastern Indian Ocean may further help fuel cyclone development.
These patterns are also associated with increased rainfall and flood risk.

I'm confused to, the BOM doesn't start issuing cyclone outlooks until November 1.

Have you got a link to that forecast Wandjina?

Doesn't specify whether it is from 2016 or 2017.

Thanks CF, looks like it's from 2016:

Quote:
Winter 2016 was Australia’s second wettest on record. Above-average rainfall has continued into spring, with September receiving almost three times the normal rainfall for the month.

The tropical cyclone season runs from 1 November to 30 April.

This is definitely worth a read:

Cuba is a world leader in hurricane preparedness and recovery. What can we learn from the small island nation?
https://www.globalresearch.ca/before-the-hurricane-cuba-global-model-for-risk-reduction/5608509

I reckon we could learn a heck of a lot from Cuba. It's not like we have an overwhelming population in these regions.

That's if you like communism...
Regimentation is not an Australian national trait.
Although when something happens to them, it is always... the govt should do something.

I'm amongst a heap of melaleucas, so they must have a great inbuilt Tom Tom gps ! smile

My first pair returned today,- to their exact same branch fork.
Now to see if the other 2 pairs make it back. I beleive they're popular as bush tucker in all the communities.
