Yep pulled up sticks after 8 years in Port Hedland and moved up the road. I am currently doing a house sit in Derby but yes Cable Beach is now home. Looking forward to some of the storm action you guys get more regularly than we did in Hedland. Though I will miss the cyclones as you don't seem to get that many....though when you do.

Hot one yesterday 42 in Broome and 45 at Curtin .

Just happened to be when I was going fishing on the Fitzroy.

Didn't catch any Barras but we did have a 2.5 metre croc which parked himself at our fishing spot which made it a bit tricky.

First good night time lightning show in Broome last night. So good to see it again. Hoping for a big wet season, lots of rain, some close TC's just offshore, some savage squalls, all the usual. Bring it on.

Hi guys, very much looking forward to the 2017/18 wet season kicking off. Hubby and I are up in Broome over the chrissie / new years period and have fingers and toes crossed for some decent storms while there!

What are people's thoughts on the Indian remaining cooler than average off the NW coast, taking into consideration the La Nina Watch we are currently on. Obviously the cool SST's off the NW coast will negate the effects somewhat but I'm wondering if the Indian can suddenly catch up? Or if it's one of those things where if it doesn't get started early enough in the transition it will never establish?

I've been feeling for the past few months (while ignoring the BOM's flip flopping on ENSO status) that it will be above average wet for our region down here in the Pilbara, but this is only going off of completely non-scientific thinking. Frogs are waking up early, ants have been active earlier than usual... am I the only one who takes note of these things? Or is it just a sad fact that I've spent over 30 years in the Pilbara haha.

Usually a good time to visit Broome Leelee. Often a tropical LOW or TC floating around if not a few storms for sure. No doubt it will go crazy weather wise as I am away during that period.

I think there is plenty of time for the Indian Ocean to warm up as well. 2 whole months of heating and according to BOM the NW will have higher than normal max's so plenty of heat in there to supercharge that ocean up to good SST's levels again.

Fingers crossed for an above average season this year. Steady right the way through rather than a few massive rain events that fool us into believing its been a great wet. Lots of constant activity to get the totals up rather than the 247mm events in 12 hours and then 3 weeks of sun.

Gotta love some Broome time Popeye, it's always a good time to visit. Especially in summer when the tourists aren't swarming.

Where did you see on BOM that NW will have higher than normal max's? Or do you mean temperature wise / land based?

Have to agree with you with wanting a steady season rather than a couple big events. Slow and steady wins the race

Yeah Temp wise / land based. I think it was on their Nov-Jan Seasonal outlook released the other day. But I guess hot land temps means its a higher chance of the waters warming up even though its a massive body of water. Just booked a trip to Darwin for the end of Nov/start of Dec so should be fun to see what a real storm looks like. Or maybe I will just realise we get good ones here as well.

Broome broke a 60year old October record today with a maximum of 43.4 deg.

West Roebuck got to 45deg as well.

Our hottest month is yet to come... frown

We actually had a little shower this morning around 5am, nothing on the official gauge but I do have video evidence!

There was also thunder & lightning over the hills last night (not town hills but the range further back).

Hi guys, the storm the other day was great. Kids all got out and washed their hair in it! At the moment the rain gauge at the BOM in Broome is broken. frown so they have to update it manually. Hopefully they will have it fixed when the good stuff comes around again!

A few TSs around yesterday but cells didn't produce any amazing falls .

Been blowing strong Westerlies for the last few days in Broome ,keeping the humidity up but the temperature a bit cooler for this time of year.
Not good for thunderstorm production though ...
