Cool start again, 8C in Maitland, 5.2C in Singo.
Was cooler yesterday, but figures have disappeared for yesterday and the day before (Sunday) for Singleton, and for Sunday at Maitland.
It appears these AWS's cannot go a month without at least 1 days data missing or not entered. (my only beef with them)

Sunny here as well after a cloudy start. Cloud rolled in and limited the cooling from about midnight, but it still got below 10 at most Sydney stations.

Looking at the forecast, May looks likely to be tracking close to average by the mid point of the month, e.g. Bankstown 9.0 - 21.7 (-0.5 - +1.2), OH 12.4 - 21.8 (-0.1 - +1.1 compared to 1981-2010).

Nothing much on the horizon for the next week or so.

Quite a mild night here last night 13.3c.
Some nice structure offshore late this morning even spotted a few water spouts, I will post some pics later.

Well it was a mostly cloudy day here and we managed to miss all that shower activity that was just sitting offshore for most of the day.

Another cool night, similar to yesterday, 4.3C in Singo, 7.7C in Maitland.
Minimum temps already running below average for May, although there are no long term records at Maitland Airport (we get Tocal Almanac right now for Climate, and this has 50 years of records).

Very nice Eddy smile

Big fog here this morning - temp around zero or just below. Currently about 2 with no sunshine, so it feels quite chilly smile

Gawwd 2 degrees with fog at 9am. Brrrr!!!

A much warmer 6.6 at home this morning. Currently about 19-20 around the place. Rather on the cool side with that SE breeze. Perfectly sunny again though; typical May weather really.

Cool and partly cloudy here today after a chilly start, with minima about 8 degrees at most Sydney locations, warmer on the coast, colder in the usual cold hollows.

I was up on the roof of my building this morning and saw some interesting convective clouds off to the SE. We now have scattered cumulus.

I was surprised at OH's maximum earlier this afternoon of 21.7, given that it's felt much cooler. There seems to have been an odd spike at 1:40PM, with it being close to 20 10 minutes either side and below 20 before and since. Still, it's similar to maxima at Olympic Park and inland sites.

You are highly mistaken then, by intelligence of this forum is that cold hollows do not exist.

Thanks WR & DaveM
Three days in a row its failed to reach 20c here although it got close today with 19.9c the top.
Still plenty of chunky showers sitting just offshore, fortunately they are staying out there.

Yes Eddy, nice picture above.

It's almost clear here now, with a brilliant solar disk sitting just above the clutter to the West. We seem to be getting better weather down here.

Re 'failed to reach 20': that's also happened on the last 3 days at Sydney Airport, although at OH it's only happened once this month and twice this year. Olympic Park has 'failed' twice this month and thrice this year. Exposure to Southerlies makes the difference.

Not enjoying these quick cooldowns into night time when I still have to do outdoor activities at this time of the day. It's not dark yet but it's freezing. Going to be another cold night. I think winter is here in terms of minimums but we're not quite there yet for maximums.

Amazingly pleasant and sunny today though so it's okay. smile

It's a beautiful, clear, bright full Moon night, 14-15 across most of Sydney. It might be a bit cooler than forecast. We shall see.

When I was a kid it was Winter by Cracker Night (May 24).

Yeah consistently colder earlier (for May)
Nice during the day. Weather my mum would rate as perfect.

Good memories, that is for sure, although I thought Cracker night culminated in the June Long weekend. (which was definitely cold by then)

Cracker night was always the old Empire Day, Queen Victoria's birthday (May 24). Some time in the 1950s it was renamed Commonwealth Day, since the old Empire was well and truly on the way out by then. It was May 24 during my school years. After I left school, it was switched to the Queen's Birthday weekend. I can recall going to a party on the Queen's Birthday weekend in 1971 where we let off fireworks.

With increasing restrictions on the sale of fireworks and no one too fussed about the Commonwealth of Nations, Cracker Night seems to have fizzled out later in the 70s.
