Incredible dominance of high pressure for this time of year. The synoptic says it all.

Winds are back to NEly and it feels quite a lot warmer than yesterday and the days before. Not nearly as clear in terms of air quality though. But very nice temperature.

Beautiful Autumn trees Eddy.

=========

Looking at the models, it seems that the place to hang out if you're a high pressure system is that stretch of ocean South of Tasmania. Highs are trying with limited success to form over the continent but the main track of the subtropical high pressure belt seems to take a dive to the SE as they near Adelaide, taking fronts with them.

==========

Mild and partly cloudy here, warmer than yesterday. It actually looks like a Summer's day, but about 6 degrees cooler. Just saw a water dragon in Lane Cove National Park. I thought they might have already bedded down for Winter but a few at least are still about, but not as many as a couple of weeks ago. They'll all be hibernating soon, to reappear in late August.

Yeah Eddy, it's rather cloudy here too but yet still relatively warm.

It does look like a summer's day Eddy, in that salt haze kind of way. Yeah the highs are very far south, I would like them to shift further north but I guess we shall take it as it comes.

Damn troughs instead of fronts. Come on vortex. Sling some cold air north.

The low just up from the bight should be where the highs should be. High dead over Alice in winter is spot on for good frontal activity

This coming week is amazing. Look at the inland tropical rain event during next week. Quite incredible for May, way out of place

Yes, you are right, but if highs stay south in winter you always get a trough off the coast in the eastery flow, that mostly turns into a ECL

Very solid fog here this morning. Vis about 100m at best.

A low of around -1 and no sun makes it a very cool morning on the toesies. crazy

Looking forward to a drink later this week, shame it seems it won't be very much but will take what we can smile

With only half the average rainfall so far this year we really are drying out. Luckily it's not hot but we need rain as do many inland areas.

Also some chance of another dribble around mid next week.

Models show some sustained moisture for the inland. So you guys might go ok.
These events (have in the past) exceeded expectations. The intergration of that moist feed from SE queensland into this upper level low will be the key.

It's a bright, sunny morning after a cool night with temps about a degree below average for mid May.

The Tasman low from the last event looks substantial, like a well developed cyclone with extensive cloud bands swirling into a central 'eye'. The trouble for people who wanted rain was, it moved quickly away from the North Coast of NSW once it formed and was just too far out to sea. Even if it had been closer to the coast, it would have been mainly a coastal event with little 'spillage' over the Divide.

The upcoming event does look likely to bring more substantial falls, including inland areas: http://www.weatherzone.com.au/news/late-week-soaking-looms-for-eastern-australia/526393

ACCESS shows a pair of troughs over the next 10 days, the first bringing widespread falls. GSF has one trough crossing late this week with less substantial falls. Inland areas will be hoping for the ACCESS scenario.
