Yeah very nice late season warmth, for late May.
Still some way off 1994, where it got to 28C on the 25th May, probably the latest for such a temp (I was coming back from Port Macquarie that day).
That year also had some very hot late April days from memory too, with some high diurnal ranges to boot.

Drove up to Newcastle today. It was a nice, warm morning with some interesting cloudscapes far to the East, probably way out to sea. I heard crackling in the car radio that might have been lightning. Surprisingly (to me anyway), there was low cloud hanging about the hilltops near Mt Sugarloaf. My sister in Mayfield told me that there had been a pea souper of a fog earlier.

Around sunset I was out at Nobbys. There was a huge swell, with some waves splashing onto the path. There was a seal playing in the waves. It felt warm and damp like an early Summers afternoon, about 20 degrees, but unlike early Summer there was a gentle sea breeze rather than a howling NE half gale. Last time I was at Nobbys was at 9:00PM on a night in January when it was 29 degrees with no wind.

Bit of instability about tomorrow morning, what's everyone's thoughts on a thunderstorm in the morning?

Okay fair enough Knot, no worries. Yeah lets keep it friendly rather than throwing insults- it's better for everyone that way. I can't talk, but my posts were reactive.

I reckon it's certainly possible, though probably more likely as you head north.

The swell has abated quite substantially here, more so in the bay.

Always fun to see a seal do its stuff. A few years back we were fishing around the islands and had to up anchor and move elsewhere as we had a seal keep chasing our bait every time we casted a line in the water.

I have never seen a seal apart from in an aquarium, but about 6 years ago I saw a penguin swimming about 5 metres from shore at Corlette on the other side of Port Stephens and we followed it up the beach!!

Ah the Fairy Penguin, haven't seen one in years. There used to be a colony on Broughton Island many years ago, probably still is.

Not much rain on the horizon for a while.

I couldn't remember what type it was but yeah it was definitely a fairy penguin. Very small compared to other species.

About 13C here right now and calm.

I went on a whale watching cruise from Nelson Bay in July last year. It was great. As well as humpback whales, we saw a colony of seals on the rocks on the ocean side of the Northern headland.

I can remember walking along a Sydney beach many years / decades ago (Maroubra?) when a small penguin came out of the water, had a look around and went back in (maybe it didn't like the look of me).

It was a cool, damp night driving back tonight, 15 degrees on the car thermometer, with patches of fog on the freeway near Wyong. There will be dense fog in low lying areas tomorrow morning if it remains calm and clear.

Yeah you're probably pretty scary Steve. poke Only joking. Apparently there are habitats of them all up the NSW coast. Montague Island has a huge colony of them from what I was reading.

I reckon there would be fog in the lower area around here as well, though nothing like Sydney fogs.

That was amazing!!! Nothing like waking up to a storm at 3am. There was tonnes of lightning and most of it was forked lightning with CG's aplenty. Some truly ear destroying thunder and retina burning lightning. To top it off there were (and probably still is) anvil crawlers lighting up the mid level clouds and lightning moving across the horizon. One part would flash then another immediately after etc. I would've been very unimpressed if I'd slept through the storm. There's still lightning even to the west though just flashes.

Interestingly hardly any wind with it and not even that much rain either maybe a 1mm if we're lucky. But 10/10 for lightning, it was so impressive!! Getting quite windy now in the wake of the storm though, with a bit of soothing light rain to fall back asleep to.

Just noticed the forecast: Windy with Showers. That is incredibly misleading. This will probably clear by dawn to a completely sunny day all day.

That was insane ! The amount of flangs it was dropping. First one that woke me up was also the one that the power went out (heard the air-conditioner power down)

It kept dropping flangs like nobody's business. Whoa!!

Had some brief pulses of moderately heavy rain.

We got nailed by the red cell heading for the City. If it's active as it was here, I don't like the odds for power services not being interrupted over a wider area.

Massive storm just passed through and woke me the f**k up. Lightning turning night into day, thunder that was powerful enough to shatter glass, extremely heavy rain and enough hail to turn the yard into a snow-like field.

Very impressive, glad I was woken up to this.
