I never had a frost when living in Charlestown, but had one at Adamstown Heights last year. July 14th or 15th I think

Closest to a frost we have had, at Singo now, but still just short. Sometimes it isnot until June Long weekend before it is cold enough- although unlike further up the Hunter (like Scone where the in-laws are) we only get a few frosts a year.

Not sure about what you mean about Singleton's 24 hour station being in Cessnock. The two towns are 45km apart.

I think he means that is the closest AWS (and hence records 24hrs) to Singleton, whereas the Singleton itself is just 9am and 3pm I think.

Probably a very similar situation to where I live at Mount Warrigal. On a slight hill with Lake Illawarra 300m away, and ocean 1.5 kms direct line away. In 30 years here just 1 very slight frost if you looked carefully, still was 4C under back patio.

You only have to cross a hill about 1km west of here that then faces west instead of east and that is where frost tends to start.

The microclimates in ANY area are interesting to me. So much variation in small areas. smile

Often or perhaps usually heavily influenced of course by hills. Sunny side/shady side, windward/leeward etc.

I know of some areas around here that are regularly MUCH colder overnight than the official Bx temps. Right little frost hollows. Georges Plains is one such beast. The times I've been through there with solid frost whilst none found elsewhere, plenty!!

Check out the cut off cold pool centred over the CT's!! Just a lazy -9 at 700mb and -30 at 500. I agree with Snowy Hibbo that the uppers are very impressive.

Agreed!!!

According to my weather station it only got 17.2c, it did feel cool for most of the day with a light southerly breeze blowing.

Current temp 9.9c and already a good dew has formed.

I'm not seeing anything that is hinting towards storm activity but that's just me. What are you seeing Eddy?

Must be all the alcohol I'm seeing!! laugh poke

I thought I had seen some instability for tomorrow along the coast, thinking the timing of the front and the cold air aloft could spark a thunderstorm and plus the Bom have forecasted a chance of thunderstorm for the upper Hunter!!

Anyway I'll check the charts out when I get home from work, that's providing I don't detour via the Pub!!

yet another well above average temp day here. Another tomorrow The last 3 days of May (if the forecast holds) will peg it back some. But still come in as a warmer than average period leading into winter. Forgotten what a good front feels like

Well yeah there's some off the mid-north coast and northern rivers but I doubt your area will get any. There's always that slight chance but I don't reckon it will happen. Could be wrong though.

Have fun at the Pub Eddy, because we all know you are going to stop there!!! poke

The last 3 days of the month look great for frontal activity. It's no May 2000, but frontal activity like this in May is very impressive and doesn't happen that often. Snow is still looking likely in the higher areas of the Southern and Central Tablelands for Wed 31st.

Yes that is right, Singleton does not have 24 hour readings like Cessnock Airport, and have to wait for official temps. The towns are a fair way apart.
The old Maitland Visitors Centre weather station too did not have continuous readings, and they were all from Tocal.
It is easy to forget this sometimes.
In the meantime today looks like topping at only 20C again, for the 3rd day in a row. Mild enough though.

For a Saturday in late May, today was as perfect as weather conditions can get for attending my kids Saturday sport.
Clear blue skies and calm. Temp around 18 degrees.
After a long wait, I'm really looking forward to the coming weeks cool down.
I haven't lit the fire yet so far. I've just been putting an extra jumper on. I'm guessing I'll need to this week sometime.

The great thing about the clear blue sky conditions we have had lately is the fact it showcases the autumnal colours so vibrantly. The red/orange hues contrast spectacularly against the vivid blue skies.
My favourite time of year.

And, I'm a bit late to the discussion on this but yes, Melbourne did YNWA far better than Sydney.

Noticed some CC lightning way off on the nor east horizon whilst fishing late this arvo. Could just make out a large towering cloud. Surprised to see it.
