Yep 12.1C here some watery sunshine again, pretty non descript weather.
Hopefully tomorrow we'll see some sun and probably back to frost and fog!

Agreed, it's been depressing without the sun and this mid level cloud has been useless anyway.

My thermometer which is usually exposed to the sun during this time of day is currently reading 20.1C while official is 17.3C so there must be a bit of solar radiation. Either that or the incredible lack of wind is making it overread a little. Probably the first one.

I'm going to go against the grain here.
I've loved the past two days. It feels very wintery, dull and coolish. I maxed out just over 16 deg's here today. Just lit the fire and am planning on laying in front of it and reading a book.

Considering we've had virtually no winter so far, I'll take days like yesterday and today all the time.
I've always loved north west cloud bands during winter. They have provided memories of some of the coldest days I can recall in Sydney, but normally they've been after a cold morning, unlike today, which started cool and has remained cool.

Well the forecast of 19c was easily reached despite all the cloud, I just wonder how much warmer today could have been without the cloud?
Anyway some nice near stationary cells sitting offshore this arvo.

Homer, I hope you have a nice glass of red whilst reading? I'm cooking my famous roast pork!!

Yeh Eddy, I was wondering that myself - just how warm could these past few days have been without the cloud cover??

Lol! I do a really crackling good roast pork as well!! smile
Tonight I'm just roasting a chicken Maryland in a baking dish with some home grown capsicum and eggplant with a few of my herbs sprinkled over and a drizzle of olive oil.
And yes, I'm having a nice glass of red while preparing, and probably a couple more later while eating. smile

Bit of a bugger that Terrey Hills is on the blink. Appin is useless. Newcastle a bit less so.
A nice cool 15.1 here atm. Very dark and overcast. I love it.

Sounds nice you two.

Yeah it would be very warm without the cloud cover when you also consider that Cabramurra reached 9C with cloud and Perisher 8C. smile

And Homer, I'm glad you're enjoying it mate. smile

PS: Appin radar seems to be good for my area.

PS x2: Most of cloud has cleared much to my surprise.

I think that the end of the cloud band is in sight. This one has been particularly persistent. What has it been - about 40 hours plus with barely a break? 0.2 hours of sun yesterday at Sydney Airport and about the same today, all without a drop of rain except for those cells out to sea. Temperature stuck around 15-16 all day and all night.

I have to say I am not a big fan of NW cloud bands. We get more than enough grey gloom blowing in off the Tasman, now all this stuff crosses the continent to grace us with its presence.

I don't mind cloudy weather as long as there is some action happening!!

As for sunshine hours, we would be lucky to have had 24-28 hours this month alone and that's probably being on the generous side.

Yeah ECL's are a pretty nice type of cloudy. grin

Pretty flashy around here from a storm out to sea. Some quite bright lightning as well.

It's been a bright, sunny morning so far, with cloud to the East. There have been some showers on the coastal strip overnight, including an isolated 10mm at Cronulla South. There's a chain of showers marching Northwards at the moment, just off the Sydney coast, coming ashore in the Lake Macquarie and Hunter areas.

They are certainly heavy, was woken up at 6am to the sound of a house shaking rumble of thunder. 6.7mm to 9am this morning and 9.8mm from a solid downpour not long back.

Starting to get a few breaks in the sky now, 22.3mm since 9am. Wind is picking up in strength, probably gusting to 50kmph.

No rain on the North Shore but there was some on the immediate coastal strip near Sydney. As so often, Mona Vale Golf Club has once again proven to be a rain magnet, the place to be for rain lovers with 10mm, although probably not so good for golf.

After being cloudy in the late morning and early afternoon, the sun's back out. It's been a bit windy, making it feel cooler than it is, around 16-17.

Cool to cold day, nuisance rain only, can't go outside, wash the car, walk the dog etc etc.
Ah well, it is June gloom.

Strange day along the coast temp wise, for most of the day the temp here has hovered between 14-16c, but the temp has had a late spike and our max (17.6c) has occurred at 7.22pm. Same goes for Nobby's and Norah Head.

It was a calm, clear, starry night on the North Shore when I was last out about half an hour ago, about 10-12 across Sydney. OH at 11.7 has dropped 2 below its forecast minimum, apparently on its way to about 8, but a cloud bank approaches from the SE. Still, it will probably get a bit cooler, maybe 10 point something.

The high parked over Victoria isn't going anywhere, the change originally scheduled for this week has been postponed to next week according to the models.

If you put ACCESS or GFS on animation in recent weeks, you see highs centred on Victoria and NZ growing and shrinking, but more or less staying put, joined by a ridge across the Southern Tasman. Lows form in the Tasman, plod around for a bit, try to barge through the ridge without success then give up and drift away to the East to die.
