Thanks guys for the comments.

What a stunning day it was, even got sunburnt and we probably had about 98% sunshine today to go with but the showers are about to return any minute now.

A return to westerly's and a more winter pattern.
Crystal clear blue skies and colder nights.

Lovely photo btw!!

Now, I'm off to prepare dinner and watch the Blues win the series for the 2nd time in 11 years.
See ya's!!

Shame they had such a lazy second half. We should've won that but it will make for an interesting decider, especially being Thurston's last.

Anyway to this cool change. I don't mean to be a downer but the latest run on GFS has backed down a bit for the cold. Still hints at some cooler temperatures and pretty typical winter weather for a few days at least. Nothing spectacular though, and it lacks the oomph to push north and east with such high pressure. It looks okay for the Snowies but again nothing unusual or noteworthy.

Whats unusual about the weekend weather is the interaction between a decaying low moving across from WA and the weak cold front. They arrive at the same time.

Looking forward the elongation of the highs has begun.

I like GFS around the end of the month and early July. GFS really starting to like the idea of cold air pushing well into NSW around that time.

Like donzah, I'm seeing the shift in patterns looking better indeed. No surprise for me, I always think the snowy weather doesn't properly arrive until exactly this time frame (late June/early July most years). Anything in June is entree and needs a good dump to hang about.

Just in time for the school holidays for the Snowies.

Surprise surprise, another big fog and a quite cool morning with frost as well. Airport min was about -3.7, still -0.1.

Sun "might" break through a little quicker today but will have to wait n see - still thick fog a.t.m.

Me toesies are chilly again. Even with the thick socks!! smile Heaters raging trying to get some warmth in this tin shed smile

Will be a lovely day later smile

Went for a nice roll beachside. Moderate SW wind and a decent east swell.

Feels about 17 or so.

Less humid as well

That is pretty a pretty unusual setup Donzah. Yeah guys I am seeing the shift in patterns and it's a very positive shift. But there's just nothing outstanding from what I can see on 8 day GFS just yet. I have no doubts that a good front will come rather soon with snow on the CT's, I reckon first week of July.

I'm still standing by my prediction of some good snowy fronts for lower areas this winter, like July 2015. smile Maybe just a silly gut feel but I've had it for months now.

Good stuff Eddy, but I can't see them on the Hunter BoM radar. Just the usuals.

Yep Donzah, it was pretty nice yesterday and almost seemed like a NEly swell which is odd. Might be to with that low that was off Coffs Harbour that someone mentioned the other day. Whalebone was solid.

WR
The whale doesn't quite break as good as it used too...sadly. Its rare to see it on now.
Best bank i seen was at Towradgi. Cross shore and all. This left came through and stood up and drained down the line...at least a 5 second pit if someone had scopped into it.

Grass is still growing , so its not winter LOL.

Why do you think that would be? I understand that beach breaks change due to shifting sandbars but isn't it just rocks and reef under Whalebone?

Towradgi is pretty nice. Personally my beach of choice for a bodyboard is South Beach. Often a pretty nice shore break. Port Kembla used to be good like 4-5 years ago but the sandbars are not ideal every time I've just had a look from the beach. Seems to be more of a surfers wave than it used to be. In saying that I haven't been bodyboarding anywhere in probably six months. Used to do it nearly every afternoon when I was 14-15.

A rock moved at whalebone a few years ago. Changed the bottom contour.
(i understand it was a VERY big rock)

yeah I haven't been out on the lid for a bit. I have 2 brand new customs from NMD sitting there...alas i'd rather ride my bike now.

LOL when I was 14-17 I would surf before school, free periods during school and after school...and if it was summer another late.

Very boring day weather wise. I'm almost wanting some rain now.

Port Kembla has always had decent banks. It is a lot easier to surf now than in the early 1970's. Due to less localism, although I still believe it survives.

I still remember padding out with a couple of mates at PK when I around 14 years old ( I am 60 now ) and a surfer we used to call FACE, called out to us " xxxx off, you little xxxxxxxxx,s your bank is over there", pointing down the beach. Tail between our legs we paddled very quickly down to the next bank. My mates came from Warrawong, myself Primbee, hardly tourists.

Back to weather and surfing. The major casualty over the last 1-2 decades has been Windang Island, through lack of decent cyclone swells. Gone are the days of 15ft plus days. I believe clean 20ft days were had there in the 1960's
