Light cloud and wind seem to have kept things a bit warmer than they might otherwise have been. It is still the coldest morning so far this year near the coast, e.g. OH got down to 5.8 with a roaring 15 knot Westerly, which must have felt pretty cold (apparent temperture down to -1.3). 'Middle ring' suburbs got down to a modest 3 to 4. It looks like in the Sydney area only Richmond and Camden got down to negative territory.

Tonight is likely be colder, with that high right over us.

No frost here this morning and min of 2.4C. When I woke up at 4am it was quite windy like Albion Park. Right now it's 7.3C so nowhere near frost, a little disappointing. We have another chance tomorrow morning though.

Some of the minimums coming out of the inland areas, in particular the low country, are astounding.

The BOM should have stuck with their -7 for Bathurst.
And yes lads, I managed to get up.
2.3 deg's here and a light frost on the lawn, garden and roof of the house.
A rounded -10 for both Goulburn and Perisher Valley.
-7 at Condobolin AP, -6 at Parkes AP, -7 at Young and an impressive -6 at Hay AP. (all rounded).

I considered getting up early but thought better of it. I thought there might have been light frosts around Artarmon Oval, but as it turned out it's not cold enough - minimum nearby here was probably around 4 to 5.

Goulburn Airport sunk to a bone-chilling -9.7 (14.5 in the old money), which was the coldest among the on-line readings in NSW. Canberra dropped to -8.7, over 3 degrees colder than any minimum last year. OH's 5.8 was colder than any minimum in July and August last year, although there were two slightly colder mornings in June last year (26th / 5.6 and 30th / 5.4).

Well it was cold here last night.
BOM say it got to -7 with an apparent of -12.5
First time I can remember waking up to frozen condensation on the inside of the windows.

Should be pretty similar but not as cold in the far west (I doubt Hay/Deniliquin/Cobar will see -6 again), and probably colder in the eastern ranges and low elevation locations near the coast with less wind than last night.

Here it only got to 8 yesterday so didn't have that far to fall to -7. Forecast for today is a top of 11 and overnight low of -6 so could be colder but may not smile
Hoping for some moisture around sometime this month so we may get a snowfall or two.

Lol, Singleton has only just got 24 hour readings, and they are WAY OFF:

http://www.weatherzone.com.au/station.jsp?lt=site&lc=61430&list=ob

At work in Singleton today, and there was widespread frost, and they are only giving it 6C this morning.
This is a severe departure from other stations in the Hunter, so obviously whoever is doing the readings needs to look more closely at it.

Well given that Scone was -3, Singleton was probably pretty similar. Yeah definitely not 6C.

That's the Singleton (Defence) automatic weather station that opened at the beginning of April this year. It's located about 7.5kms NE of Broke and 15kms S of Singleton, within the Military area, up on a ridge at 125m ASL.
The AWS is on a localised little rise on the ridge with very little vegetation near it, so will pick up a breeze if there's one to be found. It's exposure and elevation keeping it above the temperature inversion that would form in the nearby gullies below it. It reached a minimum of 4.7C last night at 10:48pm. A gentle breeze developed soon after, stopping the temp from falling any lower than that.

Location of Singleton Defence AWS

Haven't been around on the board much lately due to the overwhelmingly boring weather here. grin

The forecast of -7 failed to eventuate here, though I see Orange AP hit the mark. Some very strange temperatures on the obs there: http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN60801/IDN60801.95726.shtml

-3.7c at 00:00, -7c at 00:30, and -5.4c at 01:00.

My station had -1.5c at 00:00, -1.7c at 00:30, and -1.4c at 01:00. Overnight min was -2.5c at 02:00. Pretty unusual to have such an early minimum.

Crazy how much difference it makes being on the other side of town and up a little higher.

7.1c was my min overnight, cloud, wind and a bit of drizzle prevented the temp falling.

Hopefully tonight can produce a cold one.

I'm hoping so too Eddy, last night's 2.4 unfortunately didn't cut it for frost.

Weather's a bit inversion-y today. Only 15.1 here (Albion Park 14.6) with positive dew points but it's 11 at Orange with -9.5 DP and 23% humidity. Then we have TTS with a single degree and a single percent of humidity and DP below -40. Though dew points are so inaccurate with such low humidity that it's just a rough estimate really.

I don't think it will be cold enough here for a frost in the morning, wind is moderate and becoming more and more southerly and its pushing in plenty of cloud too!!

Anyway time will tell.

Currently 12.8 here after a max of 13.6 just after 2.30 pm.
There's a slight breeze but I expect that to become calm soon and the temp to begin to plummet again after about 4 pm when the sun is low in the sky.
Geez it felt cold at Bart's football today. I was in the shade the whole game at Glenhaven and it was positively chilly.
Eagerly looking forward to the 4.20 pm updated forecasts.

Canberra update , I mentioned earlier about Canberra Min. of -8.7
coldest since 1971, but there was also another station open in
July 1982, it has Canberra city Min of -8.8 on July 17th. either way, lows below -8.5 do not happen very often . but tonight forecast Min -8 .

I think Cooma Airport will be one to watch tonight , for the sub-zero extremes, wind seems to be lighter today, and Goulburn AP
again.
