It got to a high of 5C here. Overcast all day with a few light showers. Not quite 1mm. Now 2.5C - maybe slight chance of flakage, but perhaps not quite cold enough.

There is likely snow falling at Shooters and Trickett.

@WR you liked the music analogy. I guess you could view the seasons as a four part symphony. I would call winter so far almost one long adagio.

Spoke to my Dad in Edith, no snow this afternoon but he did have sleet, good chance that Shooters Hill would have seen a few flakes though

Heat spike next Friday. No end in sight for this uninteresting weather pattern. Rainfall in Perth and Sydney during Autumn, plus temperatures has turned out to be very predictive of this winter here so far. Above average temps and little rainfall.

Only reason for the above average temps and below average rainfall is the high pressures.

I'm just waiting for the global warming goons to jump on it lol.

Oh I am sure Snowman that in the entire period of European settlement in Sydney there has never been a high pressure dominant winter. And I am just as sure that in the entire period of Aboriginal settlement in what is now Sydney there was never a winter akin to this one. And when no humans were hanging out at all in Sydney there was no weather like unto this winter. And when Emu Plains was sand dunes bordering the ocean there was never a winter like this. /sarc snigger

No sign of snow here this morning. Low was 0.6C. Low cloud with drizzle hung around much of the night. Could have been some sleet but I was asleep so don't know. Broken low cloud today with a bitter SW wind.

Agreed, Knot.

I don't really care for snow, so long as theres frost I'm happy. But the sheer lack of below zero nights is becoming really annoying. I'm sure next year will be much better, just unfortunate about the high pressures.

Frost usually starts forming at around 7-8pm here and builds up well into the night and peaks at 5:40am so I'm enjoying the sight of that.

Couldn't reach 15 here today. Maxed out at 14.8, although it was feeling quite warm in the sun while doing a bit of gardening.
Such a perfect winters day once again.
It might be a bit boring, but geez, it's just lovely atm.
Already down to 9.8 deg's here.

Perth and Sydney have done a swap for July. Perth has had measurable rain on 8/9 days this month, averaging 4.3 hours sunshine daily (about 43%). Sydney had had just a phantom 0.2mm in total and 90+% sun on 8/9 days.

OH average 7.4 - 18.4, anomaly -1.3 to +1.0 over recent (1981-2010) average.
Bankstown 2.2 - 18.0, anomaly -3.0 to +0.7.

So on average, average or a little below so Farr this month.

I'd say wattle in full bloom is more typical of late July/ early August. I remember as a kid being aware of its blooming that coincided with westie winds for a week or more. The wind velocity is not the same at the moment but maybe the wattle responds to a sustained period of westish winds or should I say breezes as is occuring at the moment and blooms accordingly. You finally got your moonrise Eddy! smile

It's 5 degrees here and at Albion Park. Another clear night with a bit of cloud.

Got down to 7.3 last night and 7.6 at the Park so fairly warm compared to previous nights, owing to the wind all night but it was only a consistent light to moderate breeze unlike Albion Park.

But apart from last night, the nights have been really cold. 7 out of 9 mornings this month have been below average and 3 mornings so far have been below zero at the Airport. It's funny that in many areas, the lack of 'traditional' wintery weather has made them colder than in a usual winter because of the calm and dry aspects such as cold nights and stronger inversions.
