Another round of winters weather as of tomorrow afternoon/evening with the first front to move through later tomorrow, with a cold pool to follow on Friday bringing blustery SW winds, heavy showers and hail, I'll also add possible thunder as well.

Another front will move through on Monday and Tuesday bringing another burst of winters Weather alongside more showers and windy conditions.

Rainfall wise I'll go the city another 30-50mm including the N and S burbs with 50-80mm in the hills with local heavier falls of 100mm possible by 9AM Wednesday July 19th. Higher falls possible in the Adelaide metro area if you receive some heavy dumpers or a train of showers.

Some nice showers streaming in from the NW currently. Must be a weak trough there ahead of the pre-frontal trough further West.

Very nice setup coming....tomorrow night impressive front with thundery signature then nice curved flow for the coldies with good instability. I always find the curved flow enhances the convergence and makes the coldies more aggressive over the gulf and ranges areas. Of course I'll be in Perth getting bugger all.

Was at Finnis all day, the rainshadow was astonishing. It was like a standing wave hovering above. Barely a drop fell despite looking ominous.

Steady constant rain with the occasional heavy shower here during the last few hours. Looking at the radar, appears to be a line of thunderstorms heading this way. smile

There is a nice line of lightning that's just fired up to the west. Here's hoping it makes it through to adelaide.
Every appendage is now crossed.

Some quite unstable cold air pushing in from the west now on a converging NW air stream. Won't surprise me at all to see fresh stuff go up in front of those current active cells over EP.

Not surprising - anything based primarily on global models is going to struggle to capture the enhancement of rain over the Adelaide Hills.

Our forecast for yesterday evening had "chance of thunderstorm". Nearly died from the hilarity. You'd think that the millions of dollars the BOM spends on supercomputers to be wrong they would set aside a couple of bucks for, oh I don't know, a window...

The old "It didn't rain where I am, so BOM was wrong" argument.

The thunderstorm debate is one of the popular ones.

Even though when a cloud becomes electrified even when it spits one bolt, its classed as a thunderstorm which honestly I think its a bit stupid. A thunderstorm to me contains contains one or more of the following: a fair bit of lightning, heavy rain, hail, damaging to destructive winds.

IMO if you get a small handful of bolts then it should be classed as a thundery shower.

It's a topic that I really do not get. Go back in time when BoM had the long text forecasts before the major upgrades to their systems, they'd have "A late thundery shower" or "A possible thundery shower", otherwise showers with hail and possible thunder. Not a thunderstorm itself but a decent shower to drop a few bolts.

Then again the forecast system today isn't all that well also.

For their rain, they should forecast the amount and it should be between the forecast times. E.G. 5:20AM , Showers, heavy at times, 4 to 15mm, so with that, we should expect 4 to 15mm to fall between 5:20AM and 4:10PM.

A good way to describe most storms in adelaide I say, a thundery shower. To me most all you get is a flash, couple of bangs, a bit of rain and that's it.

Huge fall there Eevo, Adelaide Hills have been doing very well indeed from these continuous westerly setups.

Managed to clip one brief heavy shower in Clare, only managed 9mm at home though, 16mm for the event. Can't seem to catch a break this year for heavy rainfall, I do believe that 9mm may be the biggest 24 hour for here at home since April smirk

Not complaining though, north of here is doing even worse.
Redhill/Koolunga way have had less than 50mm since the start of May, crops aren't looking great to say the least.

Should add, some pretty impressive dumps of hail with some very localised cells today!

I arrived on the summit of Mt Lofty at around 3pm Tuesday 18th. It was raining from the Tollgate all the way up to the summit. Somewhere between the freeway and the television towers (if I remember correctly) I started seeing heaps of hail by the side of the road where running water had deposited it at some earlier time during the day I don't know when. At the summit car park it was raining and continued raining for about ten to fifteen minutes ranging from light to heavy, sometimes with some small hail. When it stopped raining I went to the summit's paved lookout area which was more or less free of hail (reported by two visitors as more or less covered with hail earlier) and then down along a walking trail into the woodland or forest and took some photos. A very pretty scene it was too. I left the summit to return to the plain below, around 650pm after another substantial period of rain this time without seeing any hail falling at all. Throughout my stay on the summit I didn't see even one icy flake of any kind fall.

The operative word in their forecast is "chance". "Chance of a storm" means a storm may or may not happen. A storm didn't happen, so their forecast was correct. They're basically hedging their bets when they make a forecast like that.
