Cool mornings over the weekend here but lovely sunny days. Went out to Sunny Corner to get a trailer load of wood Saturday - all hot n sweaty with only a cotton shirt on, no jumper required.

Yesterday I cruised around town in shorts n thongs, a breeze came up around lunchtime that made it a little less than ideal but it was still ok.

Wait n see what tomorrow night may bring I suppose.

Went for a swim yesterday (wet suit) and did even feel cold. If anything the water has come up a tad. My guess is 18C.

There were a handful of people (not surfers) braving the water in normal swimsuits.

Sunday morning here was very cold with extensive frost after a low of -5.5C. Temperature was still sub-zero at 9am. My car roof had frozen blobs of water over it, as well as a hoar frost. Intriguing (the frozen blobs that is), because the car was dry on Saturday early evening with stars shining, and I didn't think it rained during the night.

GFS gives little comfort for moisture this week. We really seem to be stuck in an El Nino-like weather pattern: cold nights with slightly warmer than normal days, and hardly any rain at all. The longer it continues, the greater the odds of an extended wet period.

Totally agree with this. Seems to often be the way.

Rob do you think Porters Retreat will get snow?

Hi WR,

I think there's a reasonable chance on Wednesday, but not much more than a dusting. If the recent cold front forecasts are a guide, it will fade away to nothing. We'll wait and see.

Thanks Rob, I am possibly contemplating a trip to Shooters and I would probably be heading via Goulburn, Taralga and then Porters.

I was in Newcastle yesterday and I was amazed at the amount of people swimming and surfing and not to mention plenty of walkers along the waters edge, certainly felt and looked like an early spring day!!
And today is nearly a carbon copy of yesterday's weather.

Damn high cloud is ruining what has the potential to be a warm day with 11-12 degrees @ 925hpa. Should be low 20's today.

I hate it too, 22-23C is ideal. But I need the exercise. Never liked cold water it even as a much younger surfer.

Agree with you both, that initial cold shock is never pleasant for me. Even in summer the water is often a bit too cold, especially when there's upwelling. Brrrrr. I don't go swimming much in winter so this an unfair comparison, but the coldest water I've ever felt at the beach here was in summer.

7C difference between SYD olympic park and the harbour. 8.4C at the OP with calm conditions, Harbour 15.4C with a light NW'er.

It wasn't quite the ripper that I was hoping for, but it was enjoyable anyway!!

Great sunset pictures Eddy. I saw that sunset over Tuggerah Lake at Long Jetty. Quite beautiful over calm waters. I saw some convective-looking clouds and virga about as well.

Coming back to Sydney, it was 8-9 degrees on the F3, 9-10 on the Upper North Shore and had warmed to 12 home at Artarmon, under clear skies. There's now a difference of nearly 12 degrees across Sydney, from 3 at Camden, 5-8 in Sydney's West to nearly 15 on the coast. Mount Boyce is on 6, is equivalent to 13 at sea level. There's warmer air about, being felt at locations not subject to inversions.

Every now and again people here curse 9am resets from the previous day which spoil potential high minimum temperature records. It's worked the other way today, with yesterday's 9am reset (probably) keeping alive Bombala's record run of 24 consecutive days with sub-zero minima - which, now that it's got through today, is now forecast to continue for at least another week.

Interesting stats Blair.
Also, water temps here are still around 20C, not that I brave that kind of temperature, even with a 22C forecast today.
You need to go a fair way north to swim all year round imo, or at least most of the year.

Blair - the old swings and roundabouts smile

Thanks for the info, I certainly enjoy your posts & I reckon plenty of others do as well smile

Breeze picked up now to around the 30k to 40k mark from the NW, cloud is only scattered and thin.
