Yeah Eddy, 20C at Bellambi Point right on the coast is rather impressive too with easterly seabreeze. The water must be at around 20C.

I hope the warm winds mix down because it's 21C across a lot of Sydney and even 24C at Penrith.

Holy hell, 23.4C at this time of the year, and still could rise.
Don't think we will get near the 1990 record though. (at Tocal that is, no long term records at Maitland Airport).
Still, for basically still mid-July, this is unusual.

Evans Head always tends to get the highest in those parts, weather station seems to be in a pocket protected from the sea breeze. (unlike Cape Byron, Yamba etc)

Sitting on the beach currently and I reckon today could definitely pass for a late spring day, or even summer. Pretty mild breeze and about 22C. Not one hint of chill, so I think my tolerance for cool weather has increased. Maybe I will end up a heat hater by summer because 18C has felt pleasant and even warm whereas in past winters those temps have felt cold to me.

Even went for a swim and the water was cold but no worse than what it can often be like in summer. When I arrived here there was a light seabreeze and even that didn't feel cold.

Can only shake my head at this warmth. Feels like Summer in western Newcastle.

Given that the heat returns on the weekend for an extended stay it is almost certain in my view that a 25 at obs hill is on the cards. I would have been happy with a slightly above days. But not this. Not after the summer we had. I gonna toss in the towel with my line of work. Just too bloomin warm in a little cab

Max of 17 out here today - crazy warm temp for here in mid July!!!

Bom forecast max for tomorrow & Thursday though is 9, still not freezing cold but a bit more like a decent winters day.

Long gone seem to be the winters days with a max of 4, 5 or 6.

I can recall some still (not windy) sunny days here in the 80's with a max temp of only 4 or 5 degrees. Distant memory now.

Not often I would have ve a cold shower after work in winter but today an exception.
Evans Head summer temps of 27ish. Warmest in state today I think. Not far off the July record max at that site. Not very long records there though.
Watch that sunburn WR. I got more skin damage then I care to mention. That old sun got some bite.

@Dave. The old gaol would have witnessed some coldies. Apparently it was one reason for the riot in 1970 with bedding and stuff getting sleeted on etc. Imagine what it must have been like in the temp down swings over the decades.

I feel like this is a slightly better thread for off topic chat.

I reckon I'd be too afraid to hitch hike, although it's a pretty effective way to get around. Sounds like you were very adventurous in your younger years. I'd love to get the courage to do something like that, maybe I will one day.

I've had thoughts of exchanging to a different University for 6 or 12 months somewhere overseas, maybe in Colorado so I can ski and experience a proper 4 season climate. I'm not nearly ready for something like that both mentally and financially but maybe doing something totally unknown will change me as a person for the better.

PS: What does the quote in your new signature mean?

Didn't know you were NZ born Donzah. Maybe that's why you're a cold weather and skiing guy.

Good point about appropriate thread WR
I was a young 'just do it' person . Left home at 15. Hit the road to the northern territory at 17. New Zealand at 18 and into my early twenties. I actually got around with a few old army shirts. Some holed jeans tied up with rope. Sandles and gym boots. I picked grapes and strawberries, tobacco, apples. Drenched sheep. Planted garlic. Mowed fields etc etc. I fell in love a zillion times in my travels. The tall, blond haired blue eyed surfie dude standing with his thumb out and a hand on the hip. California here I come.
As for my new signature. Its something that starts to happen as you get closer to 60 I reckon. Thinkin back on those skys when you were young. Each day a new adventure. Carefree. A time before all those grown up troubles and stuff start to happen. A time of innocence I guess.

@Steve. Yep

Good stuff Eddy. Gunna share any? grin The clouds out to sea here late this arvo looked like nukes so I'm not too surprised. Saw some flashes here earlier tonight too.

Knot, what a story. And thanks for clarifying what the sig meant, the meaning of it sounds a bit depressing now actually. My nan has always said 'don't wish your life away'.

Batten down the hatches everyone, it's savagely windy here tonight. Finally a proper windy winter's night!!

A fairly mild morning by recent standards, now 8.4C, even yesterday was cooler, with a high diurnal range of 5-24C. (almost early-mid springlike temps yesterday).
Looks like 3 humdrum days of 17C for now, before reaching the 20s again by next week.

Only got down to around 3c here - no sudden temp drops with these showers so doesn't look like we're gonna get any white stuff today wink
