Bathurst Ag came in at -8.0 on Saturday and -6.8 yesterday. As the regulars will know, it's often late to come in, especially on weekends.

Too big for me over the weekend. At 60 and well out of fitness I prefer 2-3ft now days. The only place in this area that was holding a surfable wave was Windang Island, there were many 10ft plus sets. Nice long period swell and deceptive as others have mentioned. At times you could look and think it does not seem that bad, then the sets rolls in.

Singleton reading for Saturday morning has come in at -4.2C, coldest morning on record for 14 years of records. (previous was -4.0C in August 2005, and -3.7C for July 2014).
No other records locally for that date, and quite a disparity considering Lower Hunter readings at Tocal and Maitland were 2C, Cessnock was -3.9C, not a record and not surprising as Cessnock has much longer records than the current Singleton station, goes back to 1968, only late 2002 for Singleton)

@Ozthunder. Can never too carefull around waves. I dont surf now but I do a bit of beach fishing. I tell any novice I see or take with me to never turn their back on the water. Even if its a pond. So it gets ingrained.
Swell backed off a lot.
Out of that wind it feels 50 in the shade. Well not quite.
I guess this our usual late July early August offshore wind burst. Only thing is its driving more warmth ahead of it due to the lack of cloud cover out nor west and west.
I thought winter would pan out this way but not such extended warmth and dryness. I was thinking a few pockets of rain in an otherwise dry winter. But not even that. Those who loathe winter are clapping. Fair enough I suppose.

If the forecast holds up it would have to be the warmest second half of July in Sydney surely

I don't mind the cold nights but the days are brilliant. Makes it more interesting when there's variability.

I suppose 8-9 mins aren't too bad, especially when there's a bit of wind to keep the temps up a tad (forecast to be W/NW for the majority of this time).

Good timing, cools down just as I'm about to head up to the gold coast for a few days (watching the Bris forecast as a reference), 25-26C maxes up there this week. Surfers paradise will live up to it's name if it keeps up.

Looks like a chance of challenging the 1990 July record of 25.9C.
Forecast is 26C for here, but there are no long term records at Maitland Airport, only started in mid July last year.
Nearby Tocal's record is 27.3C, also from July 24 in 1990.

With current OCF forecast temps for OBS hill will come in with an average max of 19.3c for July, 0.2c shy of the record. However with obs tending to often get above forecast temps + potential for Sunday to be warmer than OCF is indicating (24.9c, I reckon 26c is a chance), then the record could still be challenged.

I'm here, and not on strike (I'm in a different union to the one which is).

So far we've mostly been looking at potential full-month records. There may well be some in the northern half of NSW, but the real action on that score is going to be in Queensland and the NT.

One slightly oddball one is that Wanaaring is a possibility to have both a record high mean maximum and a record low mean minimum (although it's more likely to be 2nd for both).

Heard plenty of anecdotal comments about -9 and -10 around the area, one person even told me -12 somewhere nearby but I'd be prob a bit sceptical about that.

I do think a -10 would be possible in some of the little frost hollows around here though.

Yesterday's min of about -7 was a "surprise" given the forecast was only about -2 or so smile

2 quite fresh mornings like that in a row is pretty special!! smile

Of course the days were lovely.

Went out to Sunny Corner hunting firewood yesterday, up around 1130m elevation and it was stunning out there with full sun and wonderful views through the trees from our high point. Even got a bit sunburned smile

I'm never happier than when I'm out in the scrub - that's my happy place smile

Scary thing in the forecast is a 19 for us this Saturday - that is VERY warm for us in July.

Not confident of any "decent" snowy changes now, this season may be VERY light on for snow in this area this winter. frown

We were at Hampton from Fri to Mon, and on Saturday night we registered a low of -9C. This is at around 1050m ASL, but at the end of valley. It's an old cottage with just an open fire for heating, and in the morning there was frost on the inside of the windows, no water until 11.00am and the sides of the creek (30cm in some places) were frozen! If I can work it out, I'll post some photos. smile

I am in absolute astonishment with the latest 06z GFS, it's showing conditions like nothing we have ever seen in recorded history for July. The record for Sydney will be smashed on not just one but two days with strong NW winds both Saturday and Sunday and 925mb temps of 18 degrees, equating to 27-28 at sea level. This setup is looking very much like the Feb heat on the 10th-11th Feb earlier this year but just a winter version of it.

We're still 5-6 days away so it could vanish altogether but it's hard to see that happening as this pool of heat just gets stronger with every run of GFS.

I said just two days ago that I believed there was potential for high 20's but did not expect it so soon tbh.
