Now a strong smell of smoke about now that the Westerlies have resumed here. It will probably warm up later tonight away from the cold hollows.

[begin off topic rant]
I tend to disbelieve conspiracies. They generally require a degree of cooperation among the alleged conspirators that is difficult to credit.

On the other hand, the fossil fuel industry, like the tobacco industry before them, have decided they want to keep the game going for as long as they can. Not a vast conspiracy so much as those with most to lose through any decline in the fossil fuel industry backing the horse called 'self interest'.

The current Federal Government has, for a variety of reasons, including in the case of some individuals a genuine belief that there isn't a problem, determined that they will support and generally run interference for the fossil fuel industry.

Whatever, it doesn't matter what anyone believes, the outcome will be determine by the immutable laws of physics.
[end rant]

All sorts of temperature weirdness going tonight on as others have noted.

Locally Bellambi is 16.5C in 25 knots of NW wind, while 20kms down the road Albion Park is 6.1C in an ESE.

Goulburn which was -0.9C, is now creeping upwards.

Around the state would you believe that at 9am this morning, on the official stats (maybe some not in yet) Moruya Airport and Ulladulla had the top temps with 21.9C each.

Currently 14C here, getting ready to go down to the bay for the day now.
It was quite cool early on, and now some cloud cover.
The 1990 record, for those stations with long term records, is still on notice apparently.
Newcastle (Nobbsy Head) record is 26.3C from 1990.
Nelson Bay's record is 24.7C from July 31 2014.

Yeah the sat pic is suggesting cloudy conditions for Newy itself and north of there.

Meanwhile it's sunny here with northerly winds. And wow already nudging 20C at Moss Vale and up to 24 at Nowra Ap so it's only a matter of time before 26C is reached here. That west wind has to mix down at some point surely.

And I notice that it is starting to cloud up over Sydney a little. Kizz will be stoked!

Temp has fallen here as cloud has got more entrenched. Colder air has reached Tibooburra etc. But Bourke warm. Could it be that south of Sydney is main warmth epicentre today

Plenty of thick high cloud here, can see some clear sky to my SW, currently 17c and no wind.

WR you should go close to your temp, looks like you will have plenty of sunshine.

Only Moruya Heads has digitalises records of a lenghthy nature and a 25.6 by the the coast is recorded in July 1926. One would assume that coastal towns nth of there were prob similar as Obs hill got a 25.7 on the same day which was the record till 1990. Getting close there at Ulladulla and Nowra

Yeah Eddy it's perfectly sunny here apart from a bit of mid level cloud to my NE out to sea and towards Sydney.

I would not be one bit surprised if Albion Park got the warmest temp of the day for the southern half of the coast. Moruya Ap will be a close competitor though, it gets warm down there in a NWer although the cold front might hit there too early. Now 25 at Nowra and Ulladulla.

Temp and winds are slowly creeping up with 23.3C on my thermometer and the wind is northerly here.

It's warm, windy and overcast with a smell of smoke. There's a clearing edge just to the West that will cross soon. Judging by the satelliet picture, it looks fairly clear for a couple of hours until more cloud streaming in from the NW arrives. Given that this cloud seems to be breaking up / dissolving as it comes off the ranges, the afternoon is likely to be fairly sunny.

The spread of minimum temperatures across the Sydney area was pretty amazing - from 0 at Camden to 14 at OH. yesterday. Maybe it would have been 14 degrees at the top of a 50 metre mast at Camden as well.

Where it was warm, today's minimum was the value recorded at 9:00. WE might still get a record, it's now 21-23 across Sydney. There will be some big diurnal ranges in any case, e.g. 0.1 - 26.x at Camden (32 -80 in the old money).

Might still be a new record today. Sydney sites are

I see some Sydney sites have managed to crack 25c.
