Yes Eddy, a typo, was 28.2.

That cloud just won't clear. It's reforming in the Westerly stream over the sea and intruding on coastal areas. Sydney's West looks fairly clear. There might be some higher temps in the next hour or so if we can get more sun.

EDIT: Camden also has a new record 26.8 (records since 1971)
Sydney Airport equalled its record (27.0)

Unless we get a strong cold front soon to flush heat buildup inland the heat will hammer the coast somewhere again in a few weeks. Maybe less.

Too much cloud now for much more heat I'd guess.

Slowly warming up here, currently 21c. No real sign of any sunshine as yet, sky is full of cloud and still no wind, the river, bay and ocean is like glass.

And sure enough Sydney will be back in low twenties by end of the working week. What sux bout today is that it won't be capped off by a ripper cold change. Nothing can budge the sourh east highs.

Looks like Penrith has gone over the previous July record of 26.7C set in 2009 according to weatherzone.

Was 26.9 at 3pm . I truly hope we aren't in for another scorching summer.

Yes , i haven't followed weather very closely until a bit more recently but is this normal? The high pressure over the south east has been like a rock. Nothing can budge it.

Yeah we will probably get more heat soon enough, but not before at least 1 snowfall in the CT's next week and current model is showing up to 3 snowfalls POSSIBLE for next week but that's a different story.

Anyway it is clouding over slightly here, especially in the northern suburbs. Shame I couldn't crack 28 here (27.4 was the max) but Albion Park hit 28 on the dot.

The heat gloaters couldn't care less about your summer discomfort out in the burbs and away from the nor easter. But rest assured there are some on here who are concerned about the heat impact in parts of Sydney.

P.s counting 123 before Homer chimes in he he he

I care about it and I don't know if I could deal with heat that Penrith gets. I like warm weather but I wouldn't enjoy 40C + as a regular occurance.

Brewon (never heard of it - about half way between Walgett and Brewarrina) scored 30.1, the hottest in the state among automatically reporting stations.

The cloud's closed in over the past hour or so and three PM has passed. I think we have our maxima for today and a few new July records.

At OH, July remains the only month when 80F hasn't been recorded (today was 79.7).

@WR. I know you care as your caring nature is evident from your posting history. I had a few others in mind

There's an out of control bushfire right near the centre of town. I must've jinxed it because I did say that bushfires were possible today with such tinder dry bush and strong winds. But I never thought it'd be so close to home.

Looks like our max's have been reached here in the Hunter, Lake Mac and Necknock Airport share the spoils with 25.3c. Not sure what it got to here at home as I'm currently at work, but at a guess I reckon about 22c.

Good to see that the fire is under control. I see that Albion Park has had under 3 mm of rain since June 11 (7 weeks). I was out in the countryside yesterday and noted how dry it looked - frost plus lack of rain.

------

'Heat gloater' - that has a bit of a Seinfield feel about it.

Not much gloating material in the next few days except for people who are really keen on cool to mild, with a bit of light rain tomorrow. Maybe some heavier showers Thursday.

Here's the BOM forecast for next Sunday as it currently stands:

Code:
Sunday 6 August
Min ## Max #### Sydney area
                         ##

Surely someone on here can decipher that!! Lol
The Max could be a bit of a worry.

It's certainly a bit of a worry. I didn't realise it had been THAT dry though. No wonder the grass is dying.

Was at the bay all day, barely got to 19C.
Even the locals were saying, "where is the 26C/ 27C day?"
It was decidedly cold at times.
At least we found a good dog beach, thanks to WR from the Gong.
Apparently got to 25C at Maitland, but was not here for it, and there are no long term records anyway.
