Woke to a grey sky. Haven't seen that much lately. There's a clearing edge to the West so we'll see the Sunn soon. Got rather used to it being sunny all the time (during the day anyway).

It's sunny here but rather chilly in that breeze. Sneaky little cold pool came through overnight.

We actually had a bit of light precip this morning, even to the extent of soft hail at about 8.20 this morning.

The 3 main models now plonking a low over NSW later next week that looks quite a chance of dropping widespread rain/showers inland. Hopefully we may jag 10 or 20mm out of it.

The stuff for Monday looks really concentrated in a bit of a belt - it's positioning will be critical to who does or does not get precip out of it.

I guess my funny rain dance at tennis last night may have actually helped. Others thought I was hobbling after drop shots and wide serves but I was sneakily doing a rain dance smile

August I suspect will be showing us a different pattern to what we've seen for months out here - gawd I hope so!! smile

Yes Blair, I remember the 1990 winter and the July record quite vividly.
That day pretty much came from nowhere.
The winter was cold, there was more snow than normal on the Central Tablelands and places like that.
By contrast the August record, in August 1995, came on the back of a sustained period of above average temps, and even reached 30C again at the end of the month as well.
August 1995 also was the only month Sydney recorded 0.0mm of rain.
From memory it turned cold and nasty again though in September that year.

Very much looking forward to the weekend and above average winter temps.
The missus and daughter want to go to Nelson Bay for the day on Sunday, which is looking at 26C on the bay. (may even take a dip!).
Looking at taking the dog as well, which we only acquired this year, anyone know a good off-leash dog beach in the area?

Bagnalls Beach. It's just west of Nelson Bay and quite a long beach with mostly just trees behind the beach, rather than houses.

And I'm 100% sure that it's an off leash beach as I used to holiday up there every year.

Thanks for that WR.
Just google mapped it, looks like a great spot!

Sounds more promising Ben. Where is this info coming from? A post in the future events thread would be handy..

I noticed on weatherzone news a story bout possible bad fire season. The writer refers to a neutral El Nino. I can understand a greenhorn journo making such an error. But the article quotes the RFS commissioner as stating the same @umbass thing. Quote "We've seen some of the worst fires in recent years on a neutral El Nino," Commissioner Fitzsimmons said..' Unquote. Surely such a person in a senior position of an organisation that deals with the effects of weather should know that there is no such beast as a 'Neutral El Nino'. There is a neutral phase ENSO and an El Nino phase ENSO and a La Nina phase ENSO. Its possible the commish meant to say neutral enso. Who knows

3mm of rain overnight here. Bitterly cold with a strong SW wind, scattered lowish cloud and temperature hovering around 6C.

Next week's rain prognosis keeps varying, but we're overdue for something on the upside. I guess the path and intensity of lows are hard to predict.

All this cloud and not a drop. We may well have a crisis August not to mention spring (we have been in spring for most of the winter up this way) and summer. Bom putting finger on nw coast cold water for this peculiar winter over large swathes of the continent. And what might be causing that is what I wanna know. Because if the theory goes that extra atmospheric heat energy dives into the oceans. How does one explain colder than normal sea water

Some red just popped up on the radar heading straight for me.
Rain started here about 20 minutes ago.
Currently 14.3 degrees here. Can't see it reaching the maximum now, unless there is late sunshine.

*edit* Geez, it's like night time here now. So dark!!!
