It was bucketing down for a while, now easing off.

This rain is too late for July, it will go into the August total. Many Sydney sites had a virtually rainless July (e.g. Bankstown 0.4mm).

It's called rain mate. I know this is a substance foreign to most of us but I can confirm that it actually exists!

It's been a strange day. Mostly overcast this morning although the sun peeped through the clouds at sunrise providing some beautiful colours.
Rain didn't look likely till about 90 minutes ago, when that torrential downpour descended upon me here very abruptly.
It has become very windy from the south west. It's cold too, Currently 11.8 degrees. Apparent temps are quite low in many suburbs.
Below the higher rain bearing cloud mass I've just noticed scud flying through underneath coming from a south west direction. Quite unusual as I normally associate this as coming from a southerly or south easterly direction. I wonder if Steve 777 has observed the same?
As I mentioned before, I can't see today's forecast max temp's being reached now. I've just lit the fire in anticipation. Moderate rain falling again now, and once again, it has become very dark.

Storms doing their usual winter trick of exploding offshore. If there was an island 100kms offshore Wollongong it would have the best weather

There is but it's a little more than 100 km's offshore. It's called New Zealand!!

About 15mm here in my gauge in Tuggeranong and boy do we need it, the gardens are parched and the dams needed some water badly.
Looks like it is just about done now though as the rainband moves over towards Sydney and the south coast of NSW.

About 10mm out here today - can't see much more coming today.

Interestingly we had more rain today than the rest of July = June put together.

BOM calling 10 - 20 for Thursday out here - that would be nice.

I don't think the rain here has been particularly heavy but just steady old fashioned rain for much of the day. I can tell you it's bloody cold though!! 12 degs with a breeze as well.

Didn't notice any flying scud cloud. It was quite dark at times and I though we might get a bit of thunder so I could start my 2017/18 storm spreadsheet, but there was just the rain. It eased off later and apart from a few spits there hasn't rained for a couple of hours. There seems to be a clearing edge on the Western horizon, might give a nice sunset.

We had a nice sunset here, albeit briefly and while I was driving so no pics. Even full rainbow as well.
