Yeah been having a few barbies of late.

Some nice light late this afternoon, even saw a nice full double rainbow, unfortunately no pic of that.

There was some very strong winds after that rainband cleared this afternoon. Wind was strong enough to blow this wheelie bin about into a wooden bollard and snap it, obviously weakened by prior mishaps!!

I was quick to get out of there after that, it was only the other day a car pulled up along me and he opened his car door when a gust of wind ripped the door out of his hands and put a nice dent in my car door!! $500 later mad

Despite a few spits of rain on the way home from work, Maitland has only recorded 0.6mm of rain this month.
The old Maitland station that went for 19 years and finished in July last year, only ever had 1 drier month, Sept 2003 with 0.2mm.
Of course, when you move a weather station almost 10Ks, the comparison starts to diminish as far as rainfall goes.
As the map shows:

Fairly stock standard winter morning, and day for early August coming up.
Will be around 8-19C, up to 20C further up the valley.
Currently 8.5C.
One of the good things about the new station (which I was not happy about the movement of the station) is the 24 hour graph, the old station did not have this.

Interesting discussion on the radio ABC666 about possible manipulation of Goulburn's minimum temperatures.
Goulburn apparently recorded a minimum of -10.4C around 3 weeks ago but this was changed back to,-10C a letter to the relevant minister was sent by the caller who contacted BOM who said that the station malfunctioned that day.
The caller is saying like wtf? It had been functioning normally but was then told Goulburn can't record such low temperatures?
If the figures on the BOM website are clearly wrong like for example somewhere in SA last month had been recording 17-20C and then suddenly records a 40C then fair enough clearly a glitch but ifs it only a difference of less than a degree.
Is there some hidden agenda going on here?
Comments please or does this warrant a new thread?

Cold and foggy this morning-1C fairly big standard for winter.

Teddy

Sounds like cronyism to me.
Places like Yamba were notorious for it.

@Teddy. I've mentioned this fudging at Goulburn airport on several occasions. It is clearly a case of manipulating raw data by way of some lame excuse or something. I wonder where else this has occured. Digital allows them to alter real time readings at will by pre set cut offs when temps go beyond those pre sets. But only for cold temps mind you. They wouldn't dare round down a hot reading. No way. No how

Maitland -3 days with missing data for the whole day last month, and 2 extra missing minimums.
Not sure what is going on, when moving the station was supposed to allow for more reliable and continuous data.
Are they doing a Goulburn?
Probably not, but it is still annoying.

Struggled it's way to 98.7cm so far.

Better get some humble pie ready then. Should hit 110 by end of month.

You might need to get some sauce ready for that humble pie mate.
Could be well over 60 cm's of snow in the next week. Might even be up to a metre and will certainly be that much in drifts.

Basically all you need for snow in the Alps is westerly winds and they will be coming in spades this week. Looks like a rather typical winter weather pattern without being too impressively cold.

Might get less than 110cm if the whole winter was dominated with highs at 40S or higher latitudes.

Cooler morning, no frost though.
Finally some rain due tomorrow, in fact listed as "rain" and not showers, before back to fine weather.
I think a couple of western Sydney stations (Horsley Park and another) had 0.0mm in July, up here we had 0.6mm, still bugger all really.

I'm guessing that BOM's "light frost" was a little off the mark Ron?
Rather frosty here at Kellyville this morning as well.
