Round two of weather starts from tomorrow as a cold front will move through later in the afternoon of Friday, bringing rounds of showers and NW winds, a cold pool is expected to follow behind and should see plenty of coldies about with hail and the odd rumble of thunder here and there.

Winds will be NW ahead of the front averaging 30-45km/h before tending west to southwesterly behind the front making conditions feel much colder giving the wind chil.

A negative tilted trough is to make itself present within the front so we may see some thundery activity with or just ahead of the front which should move through around 2-3pm

Another front will pass Saturday with more showers and hail to follow with the winds remaining at the same average but much wetter.

Rainfall wise, Adelaide should see 20-35mm over the weekend, possibly 40mm
Northern suburbs should see 20-35 also and south of Adelaide 30-50mm
Hills will be the usual wet with 50-70mm and isolated falls of 90-100mm not ruled out

After round 1 bringing 10-20mm for the Adelaide area, this will be a good boost.
We'd take all the rain we can get before she dries up.

Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology South Australia

FLOOD WATCH FOR THE MOUNT LOFTY RANGES DISTRICT

Issued at 11:52 am CST on Friday 4 August 2017
By the Bureau of Meteorology, South Australia.

A series of cold fronts are expected to pass across the south of the state later Friday and through the weekend. These are expected to bring windy conditions with periods of rain and showers over the Mount Lofty Ranges.

The rain expected later Friday will lead to wetter catchments, especially the upper Onkaparinga and upper Torrens Catchments.

Further rain is expected on these catchments from Saturday afternoon, continuing into Sunday, which may result in river and creek rises throughout the Mount Lofty Ranges.

Localised minor flooding is possible from Saturday evening particularly from Oakbank to Verdun and may lead to some road closures.

Weather Forecast:
Local falls of up to 20 to 30 mm possible today with a further 50 to 90mm possible over the weekend.

Strong series of systems due, best sequence of the winter by a mile.

Today, strong cold front with negative tilt, falling over itself a bit and beginning to weaken but will pack a punch with squally showers, chance of a thunderstorm on it and cold air behind angled right at us for a burst of solid coldies but quickly moderating into saturday morning.

Stronger front saturday arvo, steaming in from the SW, amplifying upper trough with broad cold pool behind. Front will have cold air T potential somewhere along it as will any organsised coldies in the cold pool. Exit region of strong upper jet will be present across southern ag areas so lots of dynamic forcing combined with the colder air aloft in the cold pool should allow for proper storng coldies saturday night below KI gradually moving ENE into sunday morning with small hail/thunder and real lashing heavy showers.

Barreling around broad low centre another shortwave trough or maybe front comes through sunday with a squeeze in the isobars increasing showers again with cold air hail and thunder likely in some areas. Hills will cop a pasting of hailshowers on sunday. A second and possibly even third shortwave will rotate up around the back of the low later sunday arvo and again evening to keep showers coming through all moderating quickly into monday morning.

Thing to note is the massive swell event generated by the storm force winds around back of low from saturday....will be generated south of the Bight and have gales on top of it into sunday....the angle of the swell and prevailing wind direction will really push a fair bit of water into the gulfs so certainly need to watch out for some rather large waves/coastal erosion potential for sunday. Tides are also fairly large in variance atm so that will need to be watched for high tide, could be more dune destruction at high tide.

Excellent rainfalls between systems combined, 30-60mm metro, up to 100mm hills easily. Decreasing inland but mid north should go quite well by the end of it all. Lower SE will certainly be sopping wet, 50-80mm there.

I'll be leaving tomorrow morning to go surf fishing at Elliston coming back wed so will miss all the fun here...sunday has 20-25ft surf so that will be a sight.

Just had a brief shower of wet sleet on the back edge of the front in Clare, quite unexpected. Quickfire 3mm with the front.

By the sounds of things the LSE is going to cop a hiding too not just from rain by also squally winds and storms out of this system as the barometric pressure is currently sitting at 993.3hpa on my weather station and its looking quite nasty outside too at the moment

Your Barometer seems to be out by at least -6hpa, is it on Absolute instead of Relative? As Mount Gambier is 1000.7 and coastal ones are 999.7.

Just cycled home part of the way along Third Creek which has risen quiet a lot since this morning, great to see it flowing well :-)
8mm in my gauge so far today - not too bad.

Some aggressive coldies about later this arvo and evening, nice structure at sunset, they sure are motoring along, no thunder here but isolated bits here and there from one strike wonders.

Tomorrow looking very strong still but geez sunday worries me....that nasty little back end low really slingshots up, compressed and convergent flow above it aimed right at the gulf/ki/adelaide area with 2 days prior of rough and elevated seas....gotta be a storm tide advice for this, the swell is absolutely mammoth, 9m off the west coast of KI on sunday with that wind on top...bloody hell. Jetty eating material.

Bring it on Mother Nature about time we had some decent ball tearing weather as TS mentioned yesterday couldn't rule out the potential cold air nado in the mix somewhere during this event i would take a punt and say it could happen either in Adelaide,Murraylands,Mid North or of all places my neck of the woods pending on where the cold pool is well organized the most

My assumption would be that they are covering bases in case a cold air tornado embedded along the front does damage somewhere.

Strong winds above the surface with this convection could also bring some stronger gusts down.
