couple of feet of snow coming - should bump the season into the 150cm territory

Ha. Whats interesting this season is the lack of big wet events.
The dew points post snow have been so low the snow has stayed in good nick and slowly accumulated.

So even though we haven't had big dumps, the base hasn't gone backwards.

I have no idea what my base does after a big dump, let alone before one!!

But yes, it's good that the snow cover has kept in tact. I guess those highs are good for something!

I haven't been following the weather as I usually would, for a few days so I was surprised to learn that there will be a low coming over tomorrow delivering widespread rain across a lot of the state. (unfortunately including the snow fields)

WR,

There won't be much rain over the snowfields, and what ever there is will be massively topped up very quickly with a huge accumulative dump over the next week.
Oh dear. There's that word again.

The forecast for the Snowys shows snow at higher levels (above 1400-1500 metres) over the coming week. Again, just rain at lower levels and outside the Alpine areas.

Thanks Homer and Steve. As I said, I haven't really been checking out the weather and models but yes I was aware of some very decent snow after tomorrow, from the posts above. This has been my only weather info in the last few days until tonight.

Not so Steve.
Jindabyne forecast has it down to 900 mtrs.

Bit of a pity that the cold air probably won't reach the CT's on the weekend.

Yes Homer I missed that.

--------

A few showers about Sydney this morning, the Airport picked up 4.6mm overnight. That part of the sky that I can see looks fairly clear, however (Harbour webcams are offline).

We might see some snow in the area late Sunday or Monday. Doesn't look like anything huge BUT anything is better than nothing this "winter" smile

Donzah - any on ground reports appreciated smile

This will probably be the BEST week of snow this year down in the ski fields. Finally some proper accumulations.

Good point re the snow pack holding up - I watch Selwyn cams as a barometer of melt and they have stayed quite ok with a fairly thin cover to start with. Selwyn is good for that - a thin cover is still quite functional there smile The cam shot showing the tables is a good barometer for conditions there.

A good looking sat pic atm!!

I wouldn't rule out a chance of a bit of thunder late this arvo/evening. Or it will probably explode 150kms offshore like it normally does.

A very good looking sat pic.

Still only thin high cloud out here so far. Looks thicker to my west of course.

No sign of any impending precip (visually) so it is likely to be be at least several hours away.

Hoping for another reasonable drop of rain later today to top up the 19mm we had on Tuesday. There is a very slight chance of snow here tonight/early Friday and again early Saturday morning, depending on which model you look at.

That 19mm was a good number Rob, much better than here smile

Cloud has thickened now - still quite high based but more substance.

The later it waits, the better the chance of a stormy shower perhaps.

Certainly still not likely to shower any time soon, prob still an hour or two away.

A few drops of precip o nite. Not enough to cover a hankie.
Cloud and then sun. Sun and then cloud kind of day. I think the sat image is the best for the south east all winter. Cold air behind it. Prob wander to south east a bit too much for much up here. Be happy with a few mm the way things have been of late
