OK the rain is now on my horizon to the West and NW.

The next area of cloud, which is the leading edge of the giant cloud coverage, is now clearly visible not far from of me.

It is MUCH darker, (dark grey underneath) and looks wet.

Radar shows an area of precip approaching from the west. I suspect it will start spitting at least within the hour.

Should be a few hours worth of rain in this I reckon. Tennis tonight likely to be a non event.

Last night's 3.1mm was just enough to push my YTD total over the 1000mm mark.

Last night at 6:45 pm as I was leaving Darling Harbour to go to Town Hall it started drizzling whilst a thin layer of cloud could be seen as the moon was shining through.

This morning when I woke up there were telltale signs of moisture but travelling into town this increased substantially with things becoming wet.

Going to lunch now around Darling Harbour I am quite surprised by the amount of cloud coming in from the easterly quadrants as well as the moisture the wind seems to be bringing from that quadrant. Impressed considering the time of the year.

Hopefully this is feeding further through inland to give this system some moisture to play with. smile

I observe cars with windscreen wipers operating on the highway out front.

My suspicion therefore is that there is precipitation smile

Certainly FEELS more like rain now.

The north-easterly surface winds are increasing lower level cloud - a good thing when added to the mid level cloud of the main approaching cloud band.

Feeling more confident now.

There is a line of thunderstorms on the leading edge of the low (way out in Western NSW) that might impact overnight as well with any luck.

It's been cool and overcast since late morning but the rain seems a way off. It's reached the upper Blue Mountains. The movement seems to be NNW-SSE, but slowly inching its way Eastwards.

There have been some useful falls West of the Tablelands, mostly in the range 10-15mm so far.

The charts are scary good for this weekend ..100cm is now looking conservative.
Reminds me a bit of the August 3rd 2004 fall

It's good because it breaks the monotony of the day after day of clear blue skies and nothingness. We are all weather lovers, and this is weather. And don't forget, for us coastal peeps, it'll be gone by tomorrow and we'll be back to the blue skies. Which, I agree, is fantastic.
I love the excitement that this type of system provides. It's a talking point in here as well.

Seems to be a Westerly change moving across Sydney with the rain band, knocking a couple of degrees off temperatures.
