Yes samboz I did say I would open a thread
For this period and I will gladly honour that
With a big snowy smile ❄️😀

Hopefully a big few days of weather coming
Up, with two fronts coming through.
The first overnight tonight bringing strong
Wind rain and snow down to about 1000m.
Clears out fairly quickly tommoz tho to leave
Us with cold strong nor west winds but mainly
Fine day I'm thinking.

Second front comes in Sunday which is stronger
And colder again with more of the above but
Snow line dropping to I'm thinking about 7-800m.

Very severe conditions expected through alpine
Areas with blizzards likely and possibly up to
1mtr of snow falling over the 3 days!!

Batten down everyone and enjoy the winters

Samboz - hopefully by Monday mt Wellington
Will have a healthy cover on it and down
Quiet low as well 's'👍

With a lot of nor west flow in this event, not
Quiet sure what I may receive in rainfall
Quantity? Probably get best falls here once
It turns south west.
Hopefully that snow line gets right down to
The 700m or so level, if it does then should
See some sleet up here

Great thread Doogasnow! grin

The cut-off low we had on Thursday gave us 6.3mm of rain in the 24 hours to 9am yesterday here in Belgrave. Temperatures ranged from a low of 6.3C to 10.3C btw.

It was a cold, windy, and mostly cloudy day, with low cloud in the wake of the cut-off low, and increasing high cloud ahead of last night's frontal system, but we did have some sunny breaks. It became increasingly blustery during the afternoon and evening.

Not the best day for being out in Box Hill and later in the City, but at least I was indoors the majority of the time. The first showers arrived on the homeward journey with my fiancee after 10pm.

I collected 3.1mm of rain in the 24 hours to 9am this morning. Today the temperature ranged between 7.2C and 14.5C. The winds died down this morning but it became increasingly windy yet again throughout the day, with fast-moving clouds but plenty of sunny breaks today as well.

Currently around 10C and very windy! The cold front should hit Melbourne at some stage overnight, likely with squally winds and heavy showers, maybe even a storm or two! smile

After a rather depressingly dry and quiet June and July period, the cut-off low punched the stubborn high in the guts. This seems to have opened the door for last night's frontal system, which in turn set the stage for the potentially major winter storm now slamming head-on into Victoria! And more powerful cold fronts lined up throughout much of the upcoming 7-10 day period according to the models.

Winter 2017 has FINALLY swung into action!!! =D

Thanks asf 😀

Well today shaping to be very brisk, with
Showers starting to build up on radar. Just
Hope we can get something out of the
Nor west feed??

Very cold temps developing out west
Eg
Ben Nevis - 0c at 875m asl
Mt William - -1.2c at 1100m asl
And there were a couple of places on
The coast at about 5c!
So some very cold air looks like pushing
Through today and overnight.

Baw Baw also -2c

Dropped to 3.6c here at 1230 today on back edge of the band, no snow or sleet to report (believe me I was looking). Might have been some mixed graupelly stuff up at Mt Macedon at that time for a few minutes.

Has managed to get up to 7.2c in the abundant sunshine over the last few hours though it looks like some more mizzle might be inbound now.

33.4mm at home this month or for this sequence since Thursday night.

Temperature has dropped more as the rainband moves through. Spattering of rain but will not amount to more than a mil I think. No excitement in squalls or the like.

Overnight low of 8.0C, reached a top of only 11.8C here in Belgrave today.

Cold, wet, windy and stormy today. The ground was damp when I woke up this morning, but no measurable rainfall in the 24 hours to 9am.

The first wave of truly bad weather swept through around 9:30-10amish; the next wave of heavy showers arrived around lunchtime, with the temperature abruptly dropping to 7.2C at one point! eek

Then it was mostly sunny skies up until about 5pm, when it got dark and cloudy yet again ahead of the third band of stormy weather that swept through over the past hour. A shame it mostly broke up on radar over my area. frown

Collected 3.2mm of rain since 9am; the rain was quite heavy at times today, accompanied by strong winds. No hail, thunder or lightning though. Currently around 7C with the barometer showing 997hPa.

3mm y'day arvo' with fast moving front, not much wind around after media hype.

117kph & 120kph at Mt Hotham the week before and didn't hear about it.

Best snow seen this season on Mt Wellington, still only a modest fall as not enough moisture about to turn the whole place white -

First IMGUR Pic since joining up with them, should have given PB the boot years ago, IMGUR takes about 5% time or less, to load etc etc, very good program grin

You could be quite right TB.

Had further look at obs, can't find any wind over 81kph at Hotham, Falls Creek or Mt Buller over Fri-Sun.

Buller CALM from 0530 this morn.and an hour y'day arvo.

Re Hotham, they have small variations of windspeed published in the obs, if faulty would that be done.

Don't have a huge amount of knowledge on the subject but Blizzard Conditions seem to have been scarce overall.

Another 3mmor4mm today, didn't see 10C at any stage, cool one!

I heard that Harrietville access was cut off, not that it takes much to do that, normally needs plowing many times over a season.

Anyhow any decent snow is good news catchment-wise smile

Well done on IMGUR Samboz, like you, frustrated with many products over the years, this one is a gem. Great photo by the way.

We picked up another 2.75mm from showers at odd times during the day, 12.5C max, baro slowly inching up, now 1008 hPa.

.....more snow tonight, and hopefully a milder calm arvo at Maffra by Wednesday (got an outdoors appointment wink ).

[edit] - brings me to 18.25mm rain over past 7 days. Tending back to "normal".

"Blizzard - Violent and very cold wind which is loaded with snow, some of which has been raised from snow covered ground...B.O.M."

Terrific snow over that side and every bit this side helps. The odd shower still wandering overhead from the S/W, calm & 8C here.

Not much onshore moisture according to ACCESS in the next week'ish period.

Hi guys! smile

Here's my report for the past few days from here in Belgrave. Pity I've been so busy. poke

Monday August 7th 2017

Low: 5.9C High: 9.9C Rain: 7.4mm

My coldest day for 2017, and it certainly felt it! While there was hardly any wind, it was nonetheless a cold, dank, damp, dark day - overcast with frequent heavy showers. All thanks to a cold front that swept through Melbourne early in the morning; thank goodness I was stuck indoors at work! eek

Tuesday August 8th 2017

Low: 5.5C High: 14.9C Rain: 6.3mm

Again cold and mostly cloudy, but noticeably warmer than the day before. A renewed burst of showers swept through the Belgrave area during the afternoon and evening (forcing the postponement of my tennis lesson), although the Box Hill area where I was working mostly missed the rain, only to be treated with a beautiful sunset! smile

Wednesday August 9th 2017

Low: 7.8C High: 18.2C Rain: 1.1mm

Chilly to start out with, but the afternoon had an almost springlike-feel to it; mild and breezy with plenty of sunshine! Such a shame I was stuck indoors at work but ah well. smile

It started getting quite windy late at night btw!

Low: 10.4C High: 18.7C Rain: 0mm

My warmest day for August 2017. The breeze wasn't as strong as it was last night though, but it was still windy, and we lost the power a couple of times early in the morning and throughout the afternoon.

Otherwise it was a partly cloudy day with sunny breaks, and quite mild. smile

Too mild perhaps! Even now, while the wind does have a bit of a chill to it, it's hovering around a rather balmy 16C. eek

Reached a partly cloudy top of 17.3C on Friday arvo here in Belgrave, and it stayed dry until showers arrived during the evening and again early on Saturday morning. I collected 3.1mm in total in the 24 hours to 9am on Saturday. smile

On Saturday it ranged between 8.7C and 16.0C, and again it was a dry, partly cloudy day for the most part. Showers returned during the evening and into Sunday morning, leaving us with another 3.2mm in the 24 hours to 9am on Sunday.

Sunday was a mild, mostly sunny day, ranging between 7.9C and 19.5C. Another taste of the coming spring! grin
