Yeah going by the models Sam, looking like gusts will be around 100-110 km/h in places tomorrow, especially the central North coast in the evening! 70-80 km/h mean wind speeds around the coast near George Town, finally some intresting weather for a change!

Top of 18.1C today out here, getting some good rain atm! but still breezy, 0.6mm in the past 20 minutes.

Current obs, 12.1C, WNW 33 km/h- gusts 55 km/h smile

Even the Launceston forecast has winds 40 to 60 kmh. That seems pretty strong for us up here, I can't remember the last time we had a gusts around 100 and IMO with the forecast this is quite likely. Anyone care to do some research and find what the Launceston max recorded gust is?

Launceston: 85kmh in August (2001) and 100kmh annual (Sep 08).
Records only since 1999 though ( Ti tree bend ), doesn't look like any of the closed sites had wind gust records ( at least nothing on the BoM website )

Launceston Airport: 113kmh in August (1949) and 131kmh annual (Sep 52). Records since 1941

Evening all,

Up at Great Lake sneed on and off all day, didn't settle but had settled lightly early this morning.
Snow and sleet tonight but has me dipped to 0.1 degrees and sleet has turned to solid snow now.
0.5 cm on the grund so far, looks like 15cm may fall up here!
The weather has turned!

Awoke to a lovely 8cm of snow this morning, with a further 8cm falling at Great Lake after I left at 9am, so about 16cm all up.
It snowed but was wet last night and we had 5mm in the gauge that was all wet melting snow, not quite cold enough yesterday evening.
Had 11.6mm at home with a further 3.6mm after 9am.

GFS 00Z run today looks nice, a wet week, potentially followed by low level snow friday/friday night with thickness around 520 for much of the state. Not sure how the ski slopes will fair between Tuesday and Thursday, may be marginal early in the piece.

A frosty -1.3 last night, cool overcast day today, a few spits of drizzle.

Hi all

Cutting short our week in Cairns to make it home Thursday night in time to light the fire before the snow starts to fall.

Cairns really knows how to turn on the good weather! Have enjoyed the warm, dry change for a few days. To get snow settle at home would top off the week. One extreme to the other. Love it! 😁

Been a bit slower weather wise, rain looked ok until mid month, but looks to be falling away now. 72mm for the month. Back into the frost, -0.8, -2.4, -3.6, -1.3, 0.7, 7.4 and -2 in the last 7 nights.

Already more sub 2 degree nights and sub 0 nights than 2016. Obviously well down on rain...

Might be interesting for some low level snow sat night and early sun. GFS 12Z projecting 520 thick over the southern parts of the start.

520 is indeed interesting. A decent shower could put snow around sea level down south smile

Hi all,

My name is Niels. I have been a long term background observer since the days of Dave Simpson's Tassie weather forums. I have a bit of an odd query but I am just wondering if anyone has had experience requesting and obtaining observation data sets from BOM? I have got a bit of a project on the go and need to get as much historic data as I can get my hands on!

Cheers,

Niels
