1 degree is a beauty, we were about 11 which is VERY warm for us.

Unfortunately I think you guys and us up here are in for plenty of warm weather. You should at least get temporary cool downs that we don't get. Those cool changes get closer to there than here unfortunately. frown

Sure is getting dry up here and down there. Maybe next year we can whinge about flooding and webbed feet?

Hi All,
Total fire ban tomorrow for most of Tasmania. The Northern air flow crept in late this afternoon to Hobart and it's currently about 14 degrees @ 9:45 pm. It's a breathless night and we know tomorrow is going to be a stinker , another 30 degree day. If it breaks 29 degrees again tomorrow I think it will be a new record set for Hobart for the old record is 3 days in October over 29.
I just get a gut feeling based on the nights warmth that tomorrow will be well over 30 degrees. We also tracking the December monthly average at the moment , and are still firmly on track to smash the October average record. I see that next Thursday will also be around 26 degrees so far.
It's incredibly dry about as well , so no wonder the fire bans are in place. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an afternoon storm ? Stay safe everyone .

Morning smile

14 at 6am clear 20-30kts NNE

I don't remember it ever being so dry at this time of year on the West Coast. Still no permit required for fires here which surprises me. Considering the rest of the state is TFB today.

G'day H & P. smile

We are like you guys, we are doing the December averages in October as well frown Way above the October average and I can't see us coming all the way back anywhere near average either for the next fortnight. So like you we will have a VERY hot October. frown

My only hope is that there is an offset somewhere for this in Summer, often seems to be the outcome.

P - 14 is a bit warmer than this time yesterday for you!! smile

Morning all,
Currently around 27 degrees in Hobart , humidity around 20% so very crispy indeed. NNW winds at 24kmr to 48kmr.
Yes Dave there could be an offset for this early heat. It happened last year when we had our warmest September on record , then it backed off and we had pretty mild Summer. Still it's a pretty bad sign when we are breaking records 2 years running on figures that have been around 120 years old.
we have new monthly average records set now in 2003 , 2007, 2010, 2013, 2014. Should October 2015 fall that is 6 in the 2000's.

Hello H

Wouldn't it be nice if we could break a few "cold" records for a while or "wet" records instead.!!

27 is warm early down there, at least you are being approached by a cooler air mass, the 540 thickness just below Tas. You will have a cool down for a few days at least. Enjoy that when it comes through the night. smile

A jaw dropping month for sure , to have the monthly record for average temperature fall by more than 1C ( which looks possible ) just doesn't happen.

Now we have the first October on record to have 2 days over 30 degrees. May as well put up the top 5 list again may be another entry to add to the list

October hottest days in Hobart

1. 34.6 in 1987 ( 31st )
2. 33.3 in 1914 ( 24th )
3. 33.1 in 2006 ( 12th )
4. 32.7 in 1922 ( 22nd )
5. 31.7 in 2015 ( 6th )
31.7 in 1940 ( 12th )

Hobart running 3.3 degrees above average max @ 20.9 vs 17 (122 year record)

We are running 5.8 degrees above average max @ 25.8 vs 20 (48 year record)

We don't go back as far for the record but the variance is bigger. mad

Hobart reaching 31 degrees so far at 2:22 pm. A bit warmer at the air port and certainly a bit warmer here in L/V .
TFS has just upgraded a bushfire at Geeveston to watch and act shocked They are describing it as uncontrolled , and warning of ember attacks on affected areas . Not good.

What a mental searing day , topped out at 31.3 degrees here in Hobart. Another record Yep you can add to your list above.
How many more are to come , next one will be next Thursday at 25 degrees but I reckon by the time that rolls around it will be another close to 30 day.
The fire at Geeveston has been downgraded to a watch only which is great news. The wind has died down , but now there is no breeze whatsoever and it just searing outside. Instant bloody heat rash. I have two air cons going full bore , so at least I will get some sleep. Sorry rant over eek

Hobart looking at temps in the teens for the next week (except Tuesday 25) - bliss

Our hot days today and tomorrow at around 30 like you guys had. We will cool down Sunday (23) and wander around between that and 27 for the next week.

Thin band of precip seems to have passed Hobart now but laying at an angle back towards the NW. Hobart around 8mm overnight figures around that 5 to 7mm common in the Tassie obs this morning. Not much but nice when it's falling. smile

Mornin Dave

14 overcast with occasional showers smile
10-15kts NW

Mount Read had 6.8mm, Strahan 5.4mm. Be fair to say I had something in that range (no rain gauge). Must fix that,
maybe lash out and get a half decent weather station.

Yes I think there is a chance of 30 degrees or at least 29 degrees on Tuesday next week.

2 fires up near Wood's lake are burning well and cause a lot of head ache's for us fire fighter's over the summer as the terrain is very rocky and covered in logs and thick forest and may burn for months.

That's not good at all Dave. Shame too, very nice bush around Woods.

Boy there's been some big variations in temps overnight down there!!

Butlers Gorge around -3, Liaweenee about -6 but Mt Wellington just above zero.

Hobart about 7

Cressy -2 but Launnie about 6 or 7.

Mt Read close enough to zero

So inland areas tended to chill quite well overnight. Frost about in quite a few spots but temps around 9 or 10 in others. Quite interesting reading. smile

You have a little front about to flick through, at least Hobart temps only in the teens most of the coming week. Not much rain about though sadly.

Morning all

8 overcast 15-25kts NW. Looks and feels like rain is on its way. Don't think there will be much in it. Anything more than drizzle will be most welcome. smile

Caught my first Trout at Woods Lake. Going back a few years.

Dave, the variations we see never ceases to amaze me. The old saying, "Four seasons in one day", rings very true for us down here.

Also I see Tas can be divided into 4 very obvious quarters and they each have quite a few differences re climate. Of course within those 4 quarters are myriads of microclimates based on hills/valleys/coast/inland etc.

Pretty sure most people see all of Tassie as cold and wet when in fact some parts of Tassie are very warm and some are very dry. Let alone all the other combinations. smile

8 degrees sounds awfully nice to me P smile Enjoy.
