ACCESS-R, EC and GFS still suggesting a rapid spread of low-rainfall showers and thunder overnight/early Thu morning mostly inland (e.g. Downs, NSW NT's, etc)... although if it extends north enough, the 30kt+ steering flow may try to drag it towards some parts of the coast.
Some instability aloft above solid lower level capping near the coast ahead of the approaching front and midlevel shortwave trough... dry air in the lower levels and the overnight/early morning arrival of the front will probably keep thunder risk close to borderline for areas other than inland parts.

Still looking at significant fire danger on Thursday... gusty strong W to SW winds are the main player even though they'll be cooler - forest fire danger index map for Thursday via the Bureau:

A very warm September day on the northern MNC. Coffs got to 32.7C (@11:28am), Kempsey 35.5C (@1:44pm) and Port Macquarie 34.7C (@1:28pm).
The sea breeze gave dewpoints a boost as it arrived, raising dewpoints from single figures up to the 16-17C mark on the coast during the afternoon hours. A shallow sea breeze, probably would've only had to go up a couple hundred metres in the air to encounter the dry air again. In Kempsey, the sea breeze weakened enough to allow the NW'ly back in again this evening with the DP falling back into single figures.

Very high-based cumulus around today, at a guesstimate probably close to 3kms above the surface. A couple of isolated showers were able to develop about the coast, though I'd be surprised if they managed to bring anything recordable (e.g. 0.2mm or more). There were a few storms able to develop on the western slopes and on the tablelands though. Wearing the rose-coloured glasses and holding on to the slight hope of an elevated storm here in the early/sunrise hours.

Radar earlier this morning was a nice shade of blue, 50 drops/m2 settling the dust a bit. Cool gusty SW atm.

And that was it, just enough to make a "join the dot" pattern on the ground.
Blue sky to the SW, couple a random wind gusts.

Nothing here yet, but it's great just to see dark clouds again.

Of course, i just got a bike frame ready for painting and have to wait for the hot clear weather to return, after months of it knocking my goats about.

76km/h winds here and another big fire just starting near the highway. Constant sirens. I hope they get this one quickly under control otherwise it is going to get nasty.

I was just looking at the ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service) at Brisbane Airport. It mentions the windspeed etc and the abbreviation WX: BLSA Blowing sand. Sort of says it all in Brisbane this afternoon.

Heard my first bladder cicada yesterday. That, along with 30 degree temps and the smell of orange blossoms in the air, made it really feel like spring. As discussed, even a high based very light shower also yesterday arvo and early this morning. Back to winter reality today but!

A burst of moderate rain and some strong wind suddenly developed over us just after 7am this morning, with a little bit of thunder heard from it as the last drops of rain were falling. 2.6mm fell, which is more rain than we had for the entirety of August (2.2mm). At least September won't be completely rain-free here now. There have only been three raindays here over the past 60 days (with just a total of 4.8mm falling over this period).

I'm curious as to what is the longest dry spell Brisbane has ever encountered? i.e (rainless days)

I have been up living up here 3 years now, and cant recall such a long dry spell of weather.

Watch for the big shift in the last week of September. It's coming.

Hi, its very common for Brisbane to be very dry from august through September. So i can't see anything unusual about this. Normally a change happens sometime in october, maybe early or late. But very common for brissy to be dusty and dry during the period mentioned. See it many many times

GFS ext hints at a deep thermal trough heading your way by then. *grain of salt* at this stage. But it's a decent shift.

According to this report we had 64 days without rain in 1991.

We also had a long spell of 32+ days in 2012.
