And great to see the first real NW Cloud band of the season too, dumping some good rain across SA apparently.

Break in the band to the west. Bit of drizzle earlier. The temp is prett mild under the cloud but it will shoot up quick. Can see how warm it is up the coast free of cloud. Prob so 30+ there later. Still think a 25 doable here in Glendale before sundown and into the night.

A good question. Warm fronts in Australia are usually not placed on synoptic charts by BOM as most occur over the southern ocean.

Near all are associated with closed lows.

The SAT pic is often best to pick up warm fronts on. Looking at the current SAT pic I would be chucking in a true warm front somewhere SW of Tasmania in that broad cloud mass ahead of the spinning low.

Oodnadatta well on way to breaking SA all time August high. Already a few degrees above where it was same time yesterday and it was a 34.8 yesterday. Barring a wind shift it might snag the record. Blistering heat for mid August.
And after a little cool down later this week it is back to the heat generation pattern again early next week. Some times the weather just gets stuck on repeat and can't get out of it. If this pattern doesn't change soon we gonna be up $hitcreek without a paddle

Technical answer = no. Just break down of inversions and good old sunshine.

Happy to hear otherwise.

Have been storm chasing the USA a couple of times and observed true warm fronts there.

we have had some here, especially with closed lows over inland NSW and moisture being dragged down from Queensland replacing cool dry air. December 2004 was a map that should have had a warm front.

Yep just an inversion that took longer than normal to break down due to the cloud cover this morning. Sun has been out for a few hours now, zero wind.

21 degrees right now but should warm up through this afternoon and tonight with gale force winds by midnight and mid-twenty temps.

Be interesting to see when the winds arrive, hey. Latest EC pushes them more into tomorrow, and not as strong, but smashing us Friday instead.

GFS is showing 25-30kt westerly winds at 850mb for 4pm today, but by early tomorrow morning it's showing 60+ kt winds so could translate to near 100km/h winds and with 16 degrees at 850mb, it will be well above 20 for much of the night as the inversion breaks because of the strong winds above. Yet the temp will start falling tomorrow morning for a day that will possibly be cooler than much of the night.

Let the battle of the models begin!

Looks like the BoM are leaning towards EC you'd think as there'd be a Severe Weather warning issued for tonight/overnight if GFS was true (esp after the flack they copped the other night for no warning re: strong winds).

Yep - Access/MetEye going with 30-35 knot winds from 10am - 1pm tomorrow, light winds increasing overnight, getting gusty around 7am.

Lot of sun now. Ridiculous temps out west and nor west. I think Bourke prob has longest records out that way. Didn't reach it's Aug record set same day as Oodnadatta SA record. Ood won't break SA record today. But came close though. North coast got some cloud which capped things. You can see the heat in the clouds. That cloud lingered longer than expected, so my forecast of 25 in Glendale was off. Only got high teens. Be warmer at midnight propbably than all day. Weird when that happens.

Yeah, sure are some ridiculous temps. Smithville (located right on the border with SA, about 120km SW of Tibooburra) got the highest temp with 34.2.

I believe GFS will be right Kino, but there's also the chance of an inversion which might be why there is no forecast for strong winds.

Plenty of smoke haze in the air this afternoon, probably mixed with some salt as well from the NEer. Temp is a pretty toasty 22, but nothing compared to tonight's temps
