Regarding the warm potential tonight. Weatherzone mentions the 1885 19.7 at Obs and of course notes that the reset will see that go unchallenged. I have mentioned Oodnadatta record August day and how today came close to toppling. Well as a guide as to what Sydney and other places might experience tonight. The minimum for Sydney on the 12th Aug 1946 was 19.4

Nah, but saw him online earlier today so he's still around.

Knot I'm sure there have been many warmer nights than 19.4 that have been ignored because of the 9am reset.

We were under cloud for most of the day, then late this afternoon I could see the clearing edge to the west which appeared at the right time for a sunset, but the breeze also picked up.
The result a half decent sunset!!

Donza(h) is over on ski.com.au quite a bit. There's a lot more to see over there currently given the type of system, plus there's not the constant noise about how doomed we are by the warmth/BOM conspiracies, etc.

Mt Boyce 16 degrees at 10:30, that's incredible. If only it would mix down. I think it eventually will, maybe not until past midnight though.

Beautiful sunset picture Eddy.

That temperature at Mt Boyce is equivalent to 23 degrees at sea level, so that's pretty warm.

It's warmish and windy outside, getting a bit gusty at times. It was blowing hard a little while ago, now it's dropped off. The sky features some streaky high cloud, but the stapic shows that it's about to clear.

Still chilly indoors. On the shady side of the building, it doesn't react much to day to day weather.

NAEFS shows a cool(-ish) signal for SE Australia next week, peaking for August 19-26 (issued Aug 11), with the Tasman looking a bit less like a hot bath: NAEFS 170811

EDIT: OH is warming up, now 20 degrees. Looking at GFS, 850 temps look set to peak about 16 in the small hours, then slowly drop back.

Great pic Eddy!!

I just put the bins out and it's certainly now far windier than it was 2 hours ago when I picked Bart up from football training.
It's warm too. 17.8 degrees.

A delightful 68mm of precip at Perisher thus far and it would all be rain. frown

I'm expecting a westerly wind to pick up here at around 2am and skyrocket temps to 20+ degrees, as in these kinds of setups I have noticed that the inversion often breaks in the early hours of the morning.

24C at 0550???
Must be close to a record in many spots, but then again record minimums are very hard to beat as they are over 2 days.

124mm now, meanwhile 25.9 here at 548am lol. Winds have just arrived, with worst yet to come.

Hot day. Hot tomorrow and Friday. Few measely cooler days on weekend ( prob warmer than forecast) and back to regular programming next week with more heat. The nor west of the country is coming more and more on line as the heat incubator. I see no end to this pattern at all with prevailing nor westers and heat funneling pre frontals from here on in. A horrendous spring and summer awaits. Could see a 50 in NSW this summer I reckon

Hard to gauge that for sure.
August 1995 was followed by a spectacular form reversal in September, with heavy rain early in the month and then a colder month than average on temps. (in fact some record lows are still from Sept 1995, just like many record highs are in August 1995).
But going on recent trends, such happenings may be less likely to occur.

Thanks everyone.
Wow at the temps around the place this morning, calm as here and currently only 16c, although I don't think it will be too long before it skyrockets.

Strong smell of smoke about the place this morning.
